Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 479: Been A Long Time Coming
[FROLO]
Alek didn’t have a reason for all that he had done back then, really.
He had been angry.
Jealous of what Katya had with Sergei.
Scared of losing the one man he had already started drifting from himself.
There was no way around it, or at least that was what he had told himself at the time. Because it was easier that way.
Easier to make things make sense in his loneliness. But even that had not warranted what he had said.
He knew it too.
And that right there was the one thing that he had never had an explanation for, even after so much time had passed.
It had been almost nine months since he had spoken those words.
Nine months since the city had changed so much that it was hard to tell what the fuck had happened along the way. If he was being honest, there was nothing that Alek could say to justify what he had done back then.
But now his entire fate was resting in the hands of a madman with a request that Alek had not been expecting at all. And it was the most humiliating thing that Alek had ever experienced.
No one had prepared him for this.
Not once, and certainly not over the years he had known Sergei.
"I am sorry, Sergei," he said instead, like that was the only thing he could afford. Maybe this time his apologies would make so much sense.
Maybe because the serum couldn’t be gone.
The manager was most probably never going to survive this, and Alek only had those serums to keep him sane. He had gotten his last dose four months ago, which meant that he was due for another soon.
But Sergei had them all now.
What the hell was he to make of that at the moment then? How was he to get them from the man who was hundreds of miles away from Alek at the moment??
"That is not an answer," Sergei said, all the playfulness gone from his gaze as he opened the freezer.
He knew the serum would only last another thirty minutes before the vials got so damaged they would be harder to use now that the freezer had been opened.
"Let’s try this again, and this time don’t think of playing games with me, Aleksandr," Sergei said, looking at the man on the screen.
It was like he was giving Aleksandr the simplest of options, but there wasn’t much of a choice, right?
"Why did you do that to my Solnyshka?" Sergei asked, toying with the vial he had at hand.
"Sergei, please..." Alek begged, the desperation in his voice something that didn’t even reach Sergei.
And Sergei dropped the first vial on the floor, breaking it.
He was not trying to be a good person, really. Not after everything that had happened over the years that was related to Aleksandr.
Sergei didn’t know mercy, and if he did, then it wasn’t meant for Aleksandr.
It never would.
"What the fuck is wrong with you!" Alek shouted, and Sergei just stared, like a man who wasn’t in a hurry for anything at the moment.
He didn’t have to go home early today.
Katya had long extended his curfew, but then he had some business at the former HQ, which meant that the chances of going home at all today were very, very low.
Which also meant that Sergei had all the time in the world without worrying about his Solnyshka. After all, he had already told Katya that he would be having a busy day today.
"Aleksandr... Maybe you are not understanding me... You even called him a pathetic omega and had the nerve to go on national television and question my Solnyshka’s ability to make his own choices.
"You see how you didn’t do yourself a good favor?" Sergei asked like he was seriously surprised at the way that things had happened.
Maybe he was evil for this, but what the fuck was he to care about when he had what he was looking for right now?
Aleksandr had to answer him or face the music, which for Sergei was the same.
Because all of this would have the same ending anyway.
"I didn’t call him that... I just... I just insinuated," Alek lied, knowing damn well that Sergei had heard the call.
Had replayed it over and over.
It was the only reason Yaroslav had been so pissed back when Yaro had gone for him. But maybe he hadn’t done much about that call, right?
And Alek could buy himself more time, right?
Even so, what the fuck was he supposed to say that didn’t make him sound worse than he already was at the moment?
This was not what they were supposed to deal with so soon, but then he was to cross it eventually.
"So you are calling me a liar?" Sergei asked.
Before Alek could breathe...
Sergei broke another vial.
"There are thirteen vials left in here. I may be a bit more forgiving, and I could stop breaking things attached to your identity.
"Imagine not being able to stay a fake alpha because your meds ran out. What will you even tell the people who are allied with you? What of Zhenya Levin, who is on your side?
"Would be interesting to know what he would do if he found out you were never even an alpha in the first place," Sergei mused, like that was all he could think of right now.
He saw the way Aleksandr was freezing up, the way the man was trying his very best to stay steady.
But there was no need for it at the moment.
Alek should have known that the moment he decided to go after Katya and hurt Sergei’s beloved. It was not the kindest of things that Alek had done, and Sergei was even doing him a favor, right?
"Please.... I didn’t mean it," Alek tried, and at that Sergei laughed at him; of all the things Aleksandr could have come up with, that was without a doubt the worst of them all.
The man had so many choices, so why would he choose something that was evidently a lie?
"Well, twelve more to go," Sergei sighed casually as he dropped another one on the floor.
He was being cruel, but compared to Aleksandr’s cruelty toward his Solnyshka, Sergei was being a little too kind to the man.
That was Sergei’s argument, and Alek was losing his mind fast.
"I admit it... fine. Okay?" Alek said, pacing in the room on the other side.
He was not feeling too good, and without an arm to support himself properly, he was stumbling, not that Sergei cared enough to feel bad for Aleksandr.
All he wanted were answers, and Aleksandr was going to give him this particular one.
Come rain or sunshine.
"Admit what?"
"That... that I called Katya a whore," Alek said, and Sergei smiled at him.
Genuine.
Calm.
Then...
"See, it wasn’t so hard to tell the truth,’ Sergei said, and Alek sighed in relief.
Only for him to watch Sergei shoot his doctor dead and break all the vials on the floor.
"Face me soon, alright? I will be waiting, beta Daniil Aleksandrovich!!" Sergei said and ended the call.
Aleksandr...
Beta Aleksandr...
Was running on a timer.
One month.
That was all he had left as an alpha.
Fuck.
