Chapter 150: Stay Put.

’’Did he fall asleep so soon?’ Sasha, curious, couldn’t help walking up to him, wondering whether the long journey through the forest had exhausted him more than she had expected.

She stopped beside the bed and tilted her head, staring at his helm as she tried to imagine what the face beneath it looked like, since she had spent the entire time following him without getting a proper chance to see the person who had saved her.

"Does he plan on sleeping in that all night? Isn’t it a bit too uncomfortable?" She muttered beneath her breath, furrowing her brows a little as she considered how difficult it would be to sleep properly while wearing a full set of armour.

Just then, it struck her that she still didn’t know the face of her saviour, and although she knew that touching someone else’s belongings without permission was rude, her curiosity eventually got the better of her, especially since she couldn’t understand why he would insist on keeping his face hidden even when they were alone.

Her hand unconsciously reached for his helm, moving slowly towards the metal surface as she wondered whether she could lift it just enough to catch a glimpse of his face without waking him up.

But the moment her hand brushed against it, everything changed in an instant.

Osborne’s hand shot up and grabbed her wrist, his movements so fast that Sasha barely had time to react before his fingers closed around her arm, preventing her from moving even a single step closer.

In a split second, Sasha felt a terrifying pressure bear down on her, as if a ghastly predator was gazing down at her from above, its eyes fixed on her while it decided whether she was worth keeping alive or simply tearing apart where she stood.

Compared to the feeling she got from the demonic beast back in the forest, this one was several times more frightening, making the fear she had felt earlier seem almost harmless in comparison, since the creature before her now possessed an intelligence that made its killing intent far more dreadful than the mindless aggression of any ordinary beast.

Her whole body froze up, and even though she wanted to pull her hand away or call for help, her muscles refused to obey her, leaving her trapped beneath that terrifying pressure while Osborne’s grip remained firmly locked around her wrist.

In her mind, she felt like if she were to make one wrong move, she would die the next second.

Seeing her body’s reaction, Osborne quickly withdrew his killing intent before letting go of her wrist.

Sasha hurriedly pulled her hand back, stumbling backwards and falling on her rear with a frightful yelp, while her eyes remained fixed on the armoured man who had suddenly become far more terrifying than anyone she had ever encountered.

"I’m sorry! It was a mistake, I didn’t mean to." Sasha hurriedly began to apologise, her body still trembling from the lingering fear, as she struggled to understand how someone who had saved her life only hours ago could make her feel as though she were standing before death itself.

’ I can’t believe I unconsciously let my guard down around her just because she’s a victim.’ Osborne thought to himself, feeling a little annoyed with his own carelessness after realising that he had allowed someone he barely knew to approach him while he was resting.

Victim or not, if this secret of his was exposed, he didn’t know what he’d do to keep it hidden, especially since he couldn’t afford to let anyone discover what was happening to his body or the strange power that had been growing within him.

He said nothing to her, leaving Sasha to kneel on the ground while she waited anxiously for his response, unsure whether she should continue apologising or remain silent in the hope that doing so would prevent the situation from getting any worse.

Instead, he got up, his movements causing Sasha to flinch slightly as she instinctively pulled herself further away from him.

When she saw him stepping out of the shelter, Sasha grew worried, and quickly followed after him, afraid that he might leave her behind or decide that helping someone who couldn’t even respect his privacy had been a mistake.

’ Please, it was an honest mistake~’ Sasha cried inwardly, her heart sinking as she struggled to find the right words to explain herself, since she had only wanted to see the face of the person who had saved her and never imagined that such a harmless act would provoke such a frightening reaction.

Only for Osborne to stop her at the door, forcing Sasha to halt in her tracks as she looked up at his armoured back with a nervous expression.

"Rest here for tonight," he said firmly, making it clear that he had no intention of discussing what had happened, "I’ll find somewhere else to sleep," Osborne added before leaving without giving her another chance to explain herself.

’I can’t afford to make that mistake again.’ he said to himself, having already decided that he would never allow himself to become so careless around another person, regardless of whether they were a helpless victim or someone he had personally chosen to help.

Sasha watched him walk into the shelter right next door before closing the door behind him, leaving her standing outside with a troubled expression as the sound of the closing door seemed to mark the end of whatever little trust she had managed to gain from him.

Feeling guilty, Sasha bit her lower lip in frustration, unable to believe that she had gone ahead and caused such a problem for herself when she had only wanted to satisfy her curiosity.

She began blaming herself, thinking that if only she had kept her own curiosity in check, she wouldn’t have offended him like that, especially since he had already shown her enough kindness by rescuing her and allowing her to stay with him despite having no obligation to do so.
