DMS Chapter 113

Flinx knew very well that Olivia wanted to expand the business since it was lucrative, but he made her realize firmly that he would only provide inventory for the shop twice a month. Since he promised her that he would only take 60 percent of the shop’s earnings, that meant that aside from the daily spending of the family, she could do what she wanted to with the coins as long as it was reasonable and would benefit the family.

It actually meant that if Olivia wanted to spend the shop’s earnings to form other businesses, it would be no skin off Flinx’s nose as long as she wouldn’t involve him, and as long as she didn’t neglect the four children’s education. He even told Olivia that she could hire teachers for the four children as long as the funds would come from the 40 percent that Flinx would allow her to keep from the shop’s earnings. He also told her that once the four kids were educated a little and could function in a school, she could enroll them in school. As a matter of fact, Flinx wanted the kids to join a school instead of being homeschooled because he believed that they would be able to learn better in school, at least when it came to forming relationships with their peers.

If Olivia managed the shop well, it would be able to earn 26,000 gold coins a month, and 40 percent of that, which was 10,400 gold coins, was still astronomical, equal to the monthly earnings of some of the nobles in Ilioven. That meant that Olivia would have all the funds she would need to make everyone comfortable.

That meant that starting next month, the 15,600 gold coins he would earn from the shop would allow Flinx to pay part of the tax that he needed to pay to the adventurer guild. He could retain more of the mana stones that he would be earning from delving into dungeons. He just knew that he might need tons of mana stones someday.

After those three weeks, Christopher was happy since he had learned enough from his teacher that his cooking became good enough that he was able to provide good food for everyone. That meant they only needed to go out to eat during lunch since breakfast and dinner were now being handled by Christopher.

In comparison, Ambrose was a little down. His teachers forbade him from bringing any of the magic items that Flinx had given him, and he had to leave them behind in his room in the tower. The adventurer school was teaching him and his classmates the basics, and would only start delving into the dungeon once they had graduated from the novice class, which would take three months.

David, Keero, Arcios, and Violet were learning a lot from Olivia’s teachings. Flinx knew that Olivia was doing everything she could to make sure that Flinx wouldn’t be able to find anything to complain about when it came to the children’s education. She did inform him that the four children would be ready to enroll in school after around three months of learning from her. The school where the four children were was where the children of the nobility were taught the basics.

After three weeks of delving, Flinx finally reached level 8 in his wizard class. All of his spell slots had increased by one. Once he was back at home, he purchased the level 8 spells that he wanted to purchase.

Flinx purchased only six of the level 8 spells, and they were Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting, Antimagic Field, Mighty Fortress, Power Word: Stun, and Telepathy. He paid 270 low-level mana stones for the six level 8 spells.

He would need to practice the level 8 spells, and he could only do so safely inside a dungeon floor. He planned to do it at a later time.

Regarding mana stones, Flinx earned a total of 550 low-level mana stones, 460 medium-level mana stones, and 230 high-level mana stones. He paid the Adventurer Guild 110 low-level mana stones, 92 medium-level mana stones, and 46 high-level mana stones for the tax.

When it came to the magic items, the loot from the last floor of the dungeon of Mara became extremely rare. After three weeks, he had only received 13 magic items.

He kept three of them. The items that he kept were the Floating Orb of Spells. It's basically a crystal ball that floats and follows him around. Flinx could store either three level 3 spells, four level 2 spells, five level 1 spells, or six cantrip spells. When he cast the spell stored on the ball, the spell would come out of the crystal ball, and Flinx had to admit that the crystal ball spewing out spells looked gorgeous. To store the spells on the Floating Orb of Spells, Flinx just needed to cast the spell while holding onto the Crystal Ball. He would know instinctively once the crystal ball was full. Flinx didn’t want to bother thinking about which spells to store on the Floating Orb of Spells, so he just stored five 1st-level Magic Missile spells.

Flinx would usually store the Floating Orb of Spell in his 4th tab space when he was outside of the dungeon because a floating crystal ball following him around was incredibly conspicuous.

The most impressive but worrisome thing about the Floating Orb of Spells was that anyone could use it. To use it, one would just imprint themselves on the Floating Orb by holding it with the intent of using it, and after a couple of minutes, the holder would receive an indication in their mind that they could now use the orb. Still, the orb could only be used if spells were stored in it, and only a wizard could store spells in the orb. What it all meant was that the Floating Orb of Spell could easily be stolen if its function became well-known.

Another impressive feature of the Floating Orb of Spell was that it would retain the power of the spell that was stored in it. That meant that the spells inside the orb would be more powerful if the spells came from a high-level wizard. Because of the functions of the orb, Flinx had decided not to show it to anyone.

The second item that he kept was called the Robe of the Elven Mage. It had a single function, which was to increase the defense of the wearer since the defensive rating of the robe was equal to that of an Elven Chain Mail. The main reason why he kept it was that even if he was wearing it over the Chameleon Suit, the robe allowed the Chameleon Suit to override its appearance, meaning that Flinx could still change what he was wearing through the use of the Chameleon Suit.

The third item that he kept was called the Actor’s Mask. Its function was simple. Flinx just needed to put the mask over his face, and it would stick to his face like silicon, then he could change his appearance.

The rest of the items were sold through the guild. He decided not to let Ambrose sell his magic items anymore because it could be dangerous for the boy to become well-known as someone who had a bunch of magic items.

Even though some of the items could be useful for the family, he didn’t want them to get used to owning magic items, since, again, it could be dangerous for them. He didn’t want them to be targeted by adventurers clamoring to own magic items.
