The moment Flinx, Pip, and the Wind Elemental gathered all the corpses in a single location, he went to the wagons that were holding the captured women and children. The moment he opened the door, he could see that all the people inside became extremely frightened.

“I’ve killed all the slavers. Here are the keys that I’ve found from the wagon guards. Can you please free yourselves?”

Thankfully, Flinx saw that there were strong-willed women in the bunch who took it upon themselves to take action. Soon, the chains were off.

One of the women approached him timidly.

“What do you plan to do with us, Sir?”

“Nothing. I was on a mission with an extremely tight schedule. The only reason I killed all the slavers was that I happened to pass by and couldn’t stand their kind. I’ve left the corpses there so you can rummage through them for any resources that you may need to go where you want to go. I’m sorry that I can’t do much more for you.”

“What you’ve done is enough. I’m a mage, and so is my sister. We can get by until we reach the city. Once we’re there, I know what to do next.”

The woman might have seen the question in Flinx’s face regarding the fact that if she were a mage, why were the slavers able to capture her?

“I was careless and was poisoned by an elixir that locked my magical abilities. The poison should wear off in a few hours. Can we ask you to help guard us until my sister and I can cast spells?”

“I’m sorry. I’ve already said that I’m on a tight schedule. The best thing I can help you with is to give you an elemental to guard you and your charges for a month. What kind of elemental do you want? Water, Wind, Earth. Fire…?”

“Elemental?” the woman asked.

Flinx asked his wind elemental to show itself. The wind elemental was a huge one since Flinx used the eleventh-level spell slot. The woman mage looked at the wind elemental in awe.

“Wind elementals are powerful and stealthy, but if you want something that would provide comfort to others simply by its presence, I recommend an earth elemental.”

“I’ll follow your suggestion and accept an Earth Elemental from you.”

Flinx didn’t wait and cast the fifth-level Conjure Elemental using the eleventh-level spell slot. He wanted the earth elemental to have a humanoid form, so the result was that it looked like one of the Rockies.

He told the woman mage again that the elemental would only last for one month. Flinx saw that the mage probably didn’t hear him since the woman was staring with an open mouth at the huge stone golem that appeared.

Once Flinx managed to get the attention of the mage, he reiterated that the elemental would last for a month. He also commanded the elemental to follow her every command, but recommended that she choose a couple more people who could command the elemental in case something happened to her.

The woman recommended two other women, and Flinx commanded the Stone Golem to follow the three women’s every command.

“Remember, the elemental is extremely powerful, so you can use it not only for defending yourself from humans, but from monsters as well. You can even use it to hunt animals for food if you want to,” Flinx told the women.

After that, Flinx didn’t wait any longer, cast all of his defensive spells, the Fly spell, and finally, his Invisibility spell, and started flying again, with Pip and the Wind Elemental following him. Up in the sky, Flinx looked back and saw that the lady mage who was captured by the slavers had now taken over the whole caravan together with two other women. He saw that the women had started collecting all the resources that they could gather to consolidate them in one location.

The women had even started rummaging through the slavers’ corpses, and based on what Flinx saw, the lady mage must have found something valuable from the corpses of the three wizards that his wind elemental had killed. The earth elemental that now looked like a huge stone golem was following the lady wizard. Once in a while, the women and children looked at the stone golem and were comforted that something powerful was guarding them.

After that, Flinx turned his gaze forward. Even though he was delayed a little by killing the slavers, the delay wasn’t too long, so he was glad that he did it.

Flinx flew nonstop and still avoided the small villages and towns along the way. Thankfully, his Invisibility spell also allowed him to avoid flying monsters that he encountered in the air.

While flying, Flinx couldn’t help but admire the beauty of the desert wilderness to the right. It was a stark contrast to the ocean of forest to the left, and they were only separated by a road. The road wasn’t even large. It was just a strip of dirt that had been pounded by countless carriage or wagon wheels over the years. Because of the huge contrast between the desert and the forest, with just a turn of his head, Flinx would be able to see different sets of landscapes. It was such a unique sight to him that it bordered on magical.

If Flinx were being honest, his journey would have been delayed so much if he had followed the urging of his curious mind. There were structures both in the desert and in the forest that tickled his sense of adventure. He thought that those structures in the distance could either be ruins that had some hidden treasure or dungeons that hadn’t been found by anyone.

When the sun had bathed the surrounding area in a hazy golden glow, Flinx would simply land on any open space near the road and conjure his Galder’s Tower there. He couldn’t go too far from the road since, aside from his compass, it was his only indicator that he was traversing the correct route.

Once his tower was conjured, Flinx cast his fourth-level Hallucinatory Terrain so that no one would approach his tower. He didn’t want anyone interrupting his rest, but what he was most afraid of was that those interruptions would force him to involve himself, which would cause a delay to his goal of reaching the headquarters of the Torbal Slavers.

During the next several days, Flinx would start his journey early in the day and would only stop and rest once the sun had set. He would bypass anything in the way, be it villages, towns, creatures, or even interesting sights like a battle. He would resolutely keep his eyes forward, even if he heard something that tugged at his emotions like a cry for help. Thankfully, he hadn’t encountered anything that involved children because he knew that he couldn’t turn his gaze away from someone being cruel to children.

When Flinx checked his map, he realized that it would probably take him just a few more days before he reached the city of Gremos. Once he reached the dark city, he didn’t plan to enter it since he knew that with his luck, something would involve him in the shenanigans inside the city, and that would cause a delay. He planned to bypass Gremos and fly towards the general location where Monalisa told him the headquarters of the Torbal Slavers were located.
