Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 131
Gremos was an extremely huge city, but even though the sun was high up in the sky, the city was covered in some form of darkness that made it look like it was entering the first few minutes of evening. More than likely, the gloom that covered Gremos was some sort of spell formed by an array and fueled by mana stones.
According to what Flinx knew about such things, the only reason a place would be covered in darkness was so that the creatures of the night that were averse to going outside during the day still wanted to be active within the city, even if the sun was high up in the sky.
The information broker did inform him that Gremos was so dark that vampires, ghouls, werewolves, and other creatures of the night walked among the people of Gremos as if they were ordinary citizens. Flinx was also informed that no normal person would be able to stay in the dark city. The only ones who could were the ones who would be capable enough to defend themselves against anyone who desires their blood, their flesh, and their lives.
Flinx felt excited about the thought of entering Gremos since it seemed to him like it was a theme park focused on the horror elements. A particularly deadly theme park. Still, he decided to stick to his decision of not entering the city.
Since it was already late in the afternoon, Flinx decided to rest first and search for the headquarters of the Torbal Slavers the next day. He wanted to be well-rested when he started his mission to rescue his fellow Earthlings.
Since he was near the city, Flinx chose to cast a Galder’s Tower spell that only had one story, so it would be hard to see. He also protected it using the Hallucinatory Terrain spell so that no one would get near his house.
The next day, he was extremely frightened to see that the Torbal Wizard had started a killing spree. They killed around twenty Earthlings. He frantically searched the forum to learn what happened.
One of the slaves from Earth wrote that a particularly crazy wizard had arrived who needed humans for experimentation and chose the Earthlings to experiment with. Even though some of the other wizards objected, the newly arrived crazy wizard was powerful.
Now there were only twenty Earthlings left. Although Flinx had the tendency to blame himself for not doing everything he could to arrive early to rescue his fellow Earthlings, he didn’t want to wallow in that thinking yet because his presence was sorely needed to rescue the remaining people from Earth.
He flew toward the general direction where the Torbal Headquarters was supposed to be located. Once he got near it, he cast several second-level spells, Flock of Familiars, and commanded his army of Pips to discreetly search for the headquarters of the Torbal Slavers. While he was waiting for the reports of the familiars, he cast the fifth-level Scrying.
Flinx shared the results of the Scrying spells with his flock of familiars so that they could utilize the visions that he saw to pinpoint the location of the place he was searching for.
After several hours of searching with Flinx needing to cast the Flock of Familiar spell and the Scrying spell several times, one of his familiars detected something on an inconspicuous hill. The owl detected a very minute magical turbulence.
Flinx then realized that the headquarters of the Torbal Slavers was hidden under an illusion array. Thankfully, an owl saw the mana fluctuation. Flinx knew what was inside the mines of the wizard enslavers, having been a slave for several years.
More than likely, there were hundreds of slaves inside the mines, and there were tens of wizards inside as well. He couldn’t confront that huge number of wizards, which meant that he had to be stealthy.
While he was observing the entrance of the mine, Flinx saw that the illusion covering the entrance disappeared, and a door opened. A couple of wizards exited the entrance, an old wizard and a young one, possibly the apprentice of the old wizard. They were wearing what Flinx had recognized as the standard robes of the wizard enslavers. The black robes with the symbol that he was familiar with, which was the one he used to identify the enslavers' organization. How he hated those black robes, which brought great fear to him and brought him nightmares even after he had escaped from the clutches of the enslavers. Up till now, he still couldn’t stand black or dark curtains.
The old wizard summoned two mounts that they planned to use. Based on the direction the two were traveling, they were headed to the city of Gremos.
Based on Flinx’s observation, the standard wizards of this world and the other one where Ilioven was located were the same as how the wizards from the most famous fantasy role-playing tabletop games cast their spells. They required components like verbal, somatic, and material. It was highly different from how the Earthlings cast their spells. They didn’t require those components.
That meant that to capture the two wizards, Flinx would need to prevent them from casting spells. The only thing that he could think of was to destroy their hands and their tongue so he could prevent them from casting spells. He would then interrogate them using a mental spell like the second-level spell, Detect Thoughts, while he was protected by powerful mental defensive spells like the third-level spell, Intellect Fortress.
Once the two wizards reached a secluded part of the road, Flinx attacked.
He cast the second-level spell twice to hold the two wizards, and because it was a surprise attack, Flinx successfully captured the two wizards. He used several casts of the Magic Missile spell to destroy the two wizards’ hands and commanded his wind elemental to cut off the wizards’ tongues.
Flinx almost flinched when he saw the young wizard start crying, but he remembered the cruelty he and his fellow Earthlings had suffered at the hands of the wizard enslavers. In all his years as a dungeon miner slave, he had never encountered a kind wizard. All of them were cruel to the point that he started to think that they were all mad.
Flinx was full of adrenaline after he had successfully captured the two wizards. He then cast the third-level spell Intellect Fortress, and then cast the second-level spell Detect Thoughts. Flinx knew that the two wizards were weaker than he simply due to how easily he captured them.
He started interrogating the younger one first. Flinx would ask a question and wait for the younger wizard to think of the answer. After that, he started interrogating the old wizard to confirm everything he learned from the younger wizard.
The interrogation lasted for hours. Once Flinx thought he had learned everything he could, he memorized the faces of both wizards, then killed and destroyed their corpses. He stored their things inside his 4th tab since he planned to use their belongings to infiltrate the Torbal Slavers’ headquarters.
After cleaning the younger wizard’s robes using his Prestidigitation spell, Flinx wore the robes and used his Actor’s Mask item to mimic the wizard’s face. He would pretend that his “master” sent him back to retrieve an item the old wizard had forgotten.
Flinx practiced how the wizard spoke for a few minutes, and the mannerisms that he had taken directly from the man’s mind using his Detect Thoughts spell. He memorized everything, including the man’s friends and lovers' faces and names.
