Elden Ring: Starting as Melina’s Sister

Ch. 61 The Snipe and the Clam

  • Next Chapter

The crazed giant, wearing a huge pumpkin helmet and bare-chested, crashed through the wall with a thunderous boom.

Although the word “giant” had another meaning in The Lands Between, to Mia, the crazed Pumpkin Head Soldier that suddenly appeared before her was undoubtedly a giant.

If he stood upright, he would be over four meters tall; his bare upper body was only draped in a cloak, his muscles knotted, covered in stains and blood.

Holding a huge wooden flail, he was just like a killer who had walked out of a horror movie.

From that pumpkin helmet, which was so huge that it was disproportionate to the giant’s body, came a frenzied, inhuman roar.

The roar passed through the metal helmet, casting a layer of echo over the already eerie sound that made one’s internal organs tremble.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier swung the weapon in his hand, destroying everything in front of him with overwhelming force.

The flail, stained with dark blood and rust, left deep depressions when it smashed into the ground, spraying countless flying stones.

Mia didn’t know how that Pumpkin Head Soldier perceived things around him while wearing that oval metal helmet with no slits.

That kind of helmet probably worked on a completely different principle than Mia’s blindfold.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier swung the flail in his hand.

The fat body and the inhuman appearance made one think of a newborn baby.

But it was precisely because the Pumpkin Head Soldier was not a baby, yet acted in that manner, that made people feel fear.

The moment the Pumpkin Head Soldier crashed through the wall, he was exposed to the Rain of Light of the giant Miranda Flower.

Countless streams of light shrouded him; although most were blocked by that huge pumpkin-shaped helmet, quite a few still landed on the Pumpkin Head Soldier’s body, which wore no armor.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier felt the pain and let out another roar, swinging the flail in his hand upward.

He didn’t know that the thing attacking him was a Prayer; he only knew that the pain came from above.

Naturally, the flail swung into empty air.

“Leave quickly.”

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Mia hurriedly shouted.

She and Wilden were now carrying a burden, making it hard to engage in a direct fight; while the Pumpkin Head Soldier was held up by the Miranda Flower’s Prayer, they had to leave these ruins quickly!

However, the moment she finished speaking, Mia heard heavy footsteps coming from behind.

The flail tore through the air; in an instant, Mia completed a lunge to the side, and the heavy flail head smashed down beside her.

“Is it sound?!”

The young girl realized it in an instant.

It was the sound of her shouting that attracted the Pumpkin Head Soldier to attack her!

But there was no way not to make a sound now.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier walked toward her with large strides; the difference in size made their walking speed vastly different. For every step the massive Pumpkin Head Soldier took, Mia had to run three steps to increase the distance between them.

The young girl turned her head and released a patch of Ignite. When the flames scorched the Pumpkin Head Soldier, he howled and retreated.

Unfortunately, it failed to Ignite the clothes on his body.

But Mia also discovered that the Pumpkin Head Soldier was afraid of fire!

This kind of huge Soldier who had lost all reason, acted only on beastly instinct, could do nothing but attack and stare blankly, and was even stupider than a Hollow—at least a Hollow could still use a crossbow.

It was only natural that he would be afraid of fire.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier blindly attacked the flames that had already dissipated in front of him, completely unaware that his actions were meaningless.

Now was the time.

Leave quickly!

Mia signaled the Spirit Wolf, quickly turned around, and caught up with Wilden’s footsteps.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier did not feel the sensation of his weapon touching an enemy; instead, he heard the sound of Mia moving again.

He let out an angry roar and chased after her.

A monster that relied solely on sound to identify enemies really had the atmosphere of a horror movie.

The Pumpkin Head Soldier didn’t care about ruin walls or corridor corners; he swung his heavy flail, destroying everything in front of him.

Stones fell like raindrops.

Heaven knows how he managed to distinguish Mia’s footsteps amidst the earth-shattering, cataclysmic noise he himself had created.

Mia kept her head tucked, running quickly back along the path she had come from.

Flowers and vines that hadn’t finished burning still remained on the ground. The Pumpkin Head Soldier, in pursuit of her, also stepped into the burning alleyway.

Then, he stepped on a cluster of Miranda Flower that was still ablaze.

“Roar——”

The Pumpkin Head Soldier lifted his foot as if electrocuted, hopped backward a few steps on one leg, and fell to the ground because he couldn’t maintain his balance.
