Endless Debt
Chapter 1511 - 65: Surprise Attack, Part 3
On the physical level, Nesanel is indeed unkillable, but this injury reflected in his Alchemy Matrix, producing a fatal Soul Scar, much like a complex machine developing numerous cracks within. The machinery can still operate, but if it overloads, no one can guarantee whether these cracks will widen, parts will break, and the machine will collapse.
Nesanel tentatively clenched his fist, with the soul and flesh reflecting each other, he could feel a faint pain in his flesh, preventing him from fully tightening his fingers.
He cautiously summoned Ether. A small amount of Ether flowing wouldn’t cause anomalies, but once the scale of Ether’s invocation grew larger, the Alchemy Matrix showed signs of tending towards losing control.
"Damn it, they still achieved their goal," Nesanel muttered under his breath.
"What goal?"
Bologue watched Nesanel with concern and then glanced at the corpses littering the surroundings. Clearly, while Bologue was sprinting through the forge pit, Nesanel was here fighting a bloody battle.
"It’s a trap—a trap set against me by the All Secrets Order. What’s worse, I had to go head-to-head," Nesanel’s face showed that familiar confident smile again, "After all, only I could handle something like this."
The All Secrets Order laid the trap, striking the delegation, and the delegation followed into the trap, turning it into a surprise assault. Certainly, Bologue was strong, but he couldn’t handle such a lethal situation. As for Holt, the new-generation Seeker of Glory, his value was clearly higher than Nesanel’s, making it natural not to let him take the risk.
Ultimately, Nesanel took on this key part, defeating most of the enemy’s main forces.
Without Nesanel needing to explain, Bologue looked towards the depth of the gate at the Ether Furnace running with a roar, and sensing the remaining agitated Ether around, he vaguely guessed what had transpired.
"Did you kill them all?" Bologue asked.
"Of course, not a single one left."
Nesanel patted his chest, pure Ether spreading out, causing Bologue to feel jittery.
"One I couldn’t kill, he was too strong. Strong enough that if I hadn’t withdrawn quickly, you would be seeing my corpse right now," he thought for a moment and added, "No, if not for those obstructive folks, facing him one-on-one, perhaps I would stand a chance."
"Who?"
Bologue tensed up—he had never thought that anyone could directly threaten Nesanel, who in his eyes, was already a top-tier force.
"Night King."
Nesanel revealed a name that left Bologue both shocked and bewildered.
"Night King?"
Bologue repeated, then almost instinctively raised his weapon and opened his Ether, scanning indiscriminately in all directions.
"Relax, he’s not here."
Seeing Bologue’s overly reactive state, Nesanel laughed heartily, then patted the stairs beside him, signaling Bologue to come and sit.
"Indeed, due to the existence of the Dawn Oath, he shouldn’t leave the Land of Eternal Night."
Bologue relaxed; the consecutive battles had left his nerves overly tense, making him somewhat neurotic.
A new issue arose.
Bologue asked, "How did you engage him?"
"He exploited a loophole in the Oath," Nesanel pointed behind him at the steadily running Ether Furnace, "They used this to crush reality, creating a convergence point. I was drawn into it, and then the Night King swaggered into the Ethereal Realm to battle me."
Bologue fell silent. He had always viewed the Ethereal Realm as a mysterious exploration destination, but now it seemed this mysterious world above the Material Realm could also be used strategically.
This sounded like the principle of the Curved Path Gate, crushing reality between two points in the Material Realm, wrapping the enemy into the Ethereal Realm, while allowing their forces to strike swiftly through the Ethereal Realm.
"He has the Devil’s assistance."
Bologue spoke quietly; conducting strategic strikes through the Ethereal Realm wasn’t impossible, but it had a fatal flaw—it was impossible to position oneself in the mysterious Ethereal Realm. Even if the enemy was wrapped into the Ethereal Realm, they would just be blankly staring into the endless Icefield, to realize this potential, there had to be Devils guiding within the Ethereal Realm.
"Isn’t it quite normal for him to have Devil assistance?" Nesanel sighed.
"What? Still feels surreal, unreal?"
Nesanel smiled at Bologue, "Like a legendary monster suddenly appearing in front of you. Well, actually I felt just like you when I saw the Night King in the Ethereal Realm."
After coughing twice, Nesanel’s expression suddenly turned serious, "Bologue, listen closely to what I say next."
Bologue nodded, cradling his weapon in his arms; he felt like a big guy himself, but sitting next to Nesanel was like a small mound beside a mountain.
"The All Secrets Order’s purpose is to kill me, to diminish the strength of the Order Bureau," Nesanel rubbed his chest wound, "They failed, but also succeeded."
Due to the severe injury from the Soul Scar, Nesanel wouldn’t be able to fight at full strength for a while, but fortunately he was still alive, or else his death would be a serious blow to the morale of the Order Bureau.
"The operation isn’t over yet. No one can guarantee what will happen next. They might unwillingly make a comeback, and I might truly die here."
Nesanel continued, "Therefore, under the premise that I could possibly die, I need you, this Undead, to act as my backup for information."
Bologue silently nodded. With Nesanel’s account, an inexplicable emotion filled his heart, bringing a faint sadness and sense of sacrifice.
"According to records, the Night King could almost be regarded as one of the initial batch of Undead, also beneficiaries of the early days of Ether’s arrival, when Alchemy Matrix first emerged, which means his Alchemy Matrix should lag behind to an incredible degree. It might even be said that he possesses the Ethereal Amount of a Seeker of Glory, but his inherent Secret Energy nature might not be as advanced as that of a First Stage Condenser."
Bologue replied calmly, "But he hurt you, disregarding the technological disparity of Alchemy Matrix technology over the long years, and nearly crushed you."
Nesanel continued, "Yes, and I am certain, he did not use some kind of comprehensive augmentative type of Alchemy Armament."
Undead to avoid technological disparities tend to use advanced Alchemy Armament to bridge gaps with the era.
Bologue stared into Nesanel’s eyes, "So..."
"Through the various anomalies I gleaned during our encounter, I suspect..."
Nesanel spoke in an extremely calm tone.
"I suspect the Night King has been turned into this world’s Calamity."
