Endless Debt
Chapter 1512 - 66: Civil War
When the Seeker of Glory fully sacrifices their soul, completely falling into a pure demon, their hollow corpse will be blessed by the devil, twisted into an existence beyond worldly logic, known to Bologue and others as the Calamity of This World.
Each Original Sin has its own terrifying Calamity of This World, and each one possesses power that vaguely surpasses the Seeker of Glory. They are pure embodiments of evil and natural disasters, their power so horrifying that the appearance of any one of them is an apocalypse for humanity.
In the Raymond Gaudent incident, Bologue faced the gluttonous Calamity of This World: the Beast of the Herd.
Since the Fall of the Holy City, this terrifying monster has been suppressed by the Order Bureau. It’s fair to say this massive, grotesque flesh is the true embodiment of the Extraordinary Disaster: Eternal Rotting Land, continuously transforming the surrounding inorganic matter into flesh and devouring it into its hungry maw.
After numerous battles, Bologue finally relied on the self-destruct measures set by King Solomon, sacrificing the remnants of Raymond Gaudent, to banish it into the Ethereal Realm, annihilating it completely with the all-consuming power of burning light.
From this arduous battle, it becomes clear how difficult it is to deal with a Calamity of This World.
Bologue, feeling heavy-hearted, muttered to himself, "Another Calamity of This World..."
Among the known Calamities of This World, besides the Beast of the Herd who has already retreated, another is Mammon’s Throat of the Abyss. This Calamity of This World doesn’t possess the large-scale flesh pollution of the Beast of the Herd, but has a bizarre devouring power and the ability of Curved Path Shuttling. In terms of difficulty to slay, it is even more troublesome than the Beast of the Herd.
"The Night King... what is the Night King’s ability?" Bologue asked.
In the battles of the Extraordinary World, information is always critical. If one can know in advance the nature of the Night King’s abilities, it can significantly reduce casualties.
"Darkness, a darkness that devours all light," Nesanel said with lingering fear, "Within that darkness, it’s as if all one’s senses are stripped away, you can’t see, touch, or hear, even the flow of one’s own Ether is blocked."
"In that absolute darkness, the only thing I could sense was myself, my ever-active thoughts."
Nesanel paused, frowning slightly as if in deep thought.
"Not just thoughts."
Nesanel suddenly emphasized, "In that darkness, even thoughts slow down bit by bit. At first, I thought it was forcibly putting me into an absolute stasis, but now thinking back, it was more like a consumption of information."
"Humanity itself, the world itself, is actually made up of countless pieces of information, and the senses are special means of reading information... as if everything can be categorized as zero or one."
Bologue’s words were interrupted by Nesanel who said, "I have a premonition that the darkness created by the Night King is a black hole that annihilates information. At that time, my senses weren’t stripped away, they were directly deleted, approaching nothingness, naturally perceiving nothing."
Nesanel’s expression was more serious than ever. In his expectations, the Night King had become the most powerful enemy faced by the Order Bureau since the secret war.
"Even my own consciousness was thinning in that annihilating darkness..."
Nesanel coughed painfully twice, struggled to stand, his figure swayed a bit, but quickly steadied, like a stubborn reef.
"That’s all I know. We have to go."
"To where?"
Nesanel pointed upwards, "Where else? The battle isn’t over."
"Are you alright?" Bologue asked concernedly, "I think you should rest here, at least catch your breath."
This time, Nesanel was silent for a long while until Bologue couldn’t help but speak, "Did I say something wrong?"
"No," Nesanel shook his head and smiled wryly, "I just didn’t expect that one day, someone would tell me I should rest."
Once, Nesanel always stood at the forefront of the struggle, never thinking of retreating or passing on his duties to others. Nesanel carried heavy responsibilities for so long that he thought they were part of him, closely linked with flesh and blood, never imagining they could be lifted off.
Until today.
Nesanel asked, "Can I trust you, Bologue?"
"Me? Is this some sort of loyalty test? In this situation?" Bologue asked, confused.
"No, not a loyalty test, that’s the least meaningful thing," Nesanel shook his head and continued, "I mean, can I trust you to successfully resolve all this?"
Bologue answered without hesitation, "Of course."
"Very good."
Nesanel, as if releasing a burden, sat back down, his gaze losing focus, as though looking into the distance or simply daydreaming.
Bologue felt he should leave, continue upwards, and resolve all this chaos, but as he was about to move, Nesanel’s voice sounded again.
"Bologue, there’s one more thing I need to ask of you."
"What?"
"If... if I accidentally fall in battle, I need you to cut off my head and bring it to the congregation."
Nesanel said expressionlessly, as if he was completely unaware of the terror of his words.
