Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2653: Shyly Looking at Sylvan Cheney
His sharp eyes were fixed on Little Clementine.
Sylvan Cheney is a man with a strong presence, always maintaining an aloof demeanor that seldom encourages people to strike up a conversation with him.
Yet, Little Clementine wasn’t afraid and even reached out to Sylvan Cheney, as if recognizing him.
Jasmine Yale grabbed Little Clementine’s hand and lowered her head: "Let’s go, baby. We’ll go somewhere else."
Little Clementine wouldn’t budge, still wanting to ride the little train, leaning on the steering wheel with anticipation while looking pitifully at Sylvan Cheney.
Jasmine Yale tried to pick her up, but she wouldn’t rise.
"Little Clementine, Little Clementine, are you being naughty? If you don’t behave, I won’t bring you out again." Jasmine Yale snorted coolly.
"It’s rare to have a chance to play; let her enjoy it a bit more." Sylvan Cheney approached.
"What do you know." Jasmine Yale replied indifferently.
Sylvan Cheney reached out, intending to pick up Little Clementine.
Jasmine Yale blocked him: "Don’t hold her; you promised not to see her again."
Sylvan Cheney’s arms froze in mid-air, and he chuckled awkwardly, withdrawing his hands: "She... seems to really want me to hold her."
"You’re mistaken; she’s naturally friendly and wants a hug from everyone she sees."
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
Little Clementine couldn’t understand their conversation, laughing foolishly, so happy, yet unwilling to get off the little train.
A staff member came over patiently: "Ma’am, will you and the baby continue to ride? We’re about to start the next round."
Little Clementine was clinging to the steering wheel, refusing to move.
Sylvan Cheney took out his wallet and handed over money: "Two more tickets, please."
"Alright."
"Sylvan Cheney..."
Before Jasmine Yale could speak, Sylvan Cheney crowded in.
Being tall, this space felt somewhat cramped, and he gathered Little Clementine into his arms.
Little Clementine was overjoyed, sitting on Sylvan Cheney’s lap, constantly snuggling against his chest, and using her small hands to fiddle with his shirt buttons.
"Don’t say anything, let her play a bit more." Sylvan Cheney said lightly.
"Things that are easily obtained lose excitement and novelty, and lack the initial anticipation." Jasmine Yale remarked casually, "Riding the little train is like that. Little Clementine likes it because I don’t bring her here often. If I did frequently, she’d soon lose interest."
"Oh? If she doesn’t like it, we can find something else. There are so many fun things in the world; she’ll find something she likes."
"I’m just an ordinary person, unable to constantly offer new experiences. Keep your tricks for your own daughter in the future." Jasmine Yale didn’t look at Sylvan Cheney but turned her head to watch the people coming and going in the mall.
Sylvan Cheney was silent.
Little Clementine babbled, moving around in Sylvan Cheney’s arms.
"Why are you here?" she asked.
"Passing by."
"That’s quite a coincidence."
"Car... car..." Little Clementine babbled, her small hands clinging to Sylvan Cheney.
"Yes, car." Sylvan Cheney smiled slightly, "You’re rather smart."
Little Clementine looked shyly at Sylvan Cheney, sometimes covering her face, other times hugging Sylvan Cheney’s neck, never resting, her big eyes bright and expressive.
Sylvan Cheney held her properly, letting her watch the mall ahead.
Little Clementine was always very well-behaved, whether with Jasmine Yale or Sylvan Cheney.
Jasmine Yale remained silent, unsure of what to say.
