Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2660: Won’t Buy Things for Little Clementine Anymore
Jasmine Yale liked sunsets, especially the maple leaves under the setting sun, which were particularly beautiful.
Scenery like this always made people linger, unwilling to leave.
Little Clementine was lying obediently in her arms again, and Jasmine’s arms were starting to ache from holding her.
Jasmine felt that cutting things off with Justin Usama was actually for the best. During this period of lukewarm, tentative contact with him, she hadn’t developed much feeling. It was only when she thought of Little Clementine that she tried to keep interacting with him.
And now that she knew what kind of person Justin Usama really was, she wouldn’t contact him again.
Little Clementine clearly didn’t want to go home. She lay on Jasmine’s shoulder and reached for Sylvan Cheney behind Jasmine, looking at him with a wronged little face.
"I’ll take you two back," Sylvan Cheney stepped forward and blocked Jasmine’s way.
"No need, I’ll just get a cab home myself."
"You’re still like this, refusing out of habit."
"It’s just unnecessary, that’s all." Jasmine’s voice was calm.
"Then wait a second, I’ve got something in the car for you. Stand here and wait for me."
Sylvan Cheney’s car was parked in the lot not far away. He had just turned around when Little Clementine scratched her head, mumbled, and called out "Ba-ba" again.
"Little Clementine, don’t shout nonsense." Jasmine scolded.
Even so, Sylvan still heard it, and he gave an awkward little laugh.
He came back quickly with something, a small little gift.
There was a ring of delicate pink bows on the shopping bag. Sylvan handed the bag to Little Clementine. "Here, take it."
Little Clementine immediately reached out her hand.
Jasmine caught her wrist and looked at Sylvan. "Little Clementine doesn’t want it."
"She clearly really wants it. Doesn’t this count as lying to a kid?" Sylvan, for once, had surprisingly good patience; even being rejected didn’t seem to annoy him.
"Want..." Little Clementine suddenly spoke in a soft, milky voice. She pulled her little hand free from Jasmine’s and stretched it toward Sylvan.
Jasmine froze for a moment, then suddenly had the feeling she’d raised a little ingrate.
But the fact that Little Clementine was speaking so clearly really surprised her.
Sylvan hooked the bag onto Little Clementine’s finger and patted her head. "Hold it tight, it’s for you."
Little Clementine’s small hand clutched it tightly.
"Didn’t you just say, ’your mouth is tied when you eat someone’s food, your hands are tied when you take someone’s things’?" Jasmine looked at Sylvan.
"Just take it. I won’t buy anything for Little Clementine again in the future."
"Even if you do, she won’t want it. When she grows up, she’ll know right from wrong."
Sylvan nodded. "You’re right."
Little Clementine didn’t know what they were talking about. She held the bag, trying curiously to poke her little head inside for a look.
"Little Clementine, let’s go home."
Jasmine held Little Clementine and stood by the roadside to hail a cab.
Little Clementine hugged the bag tightly, afraid she’d drop it. As they were leaving, she still looked at Sylvan, reluctant to part.
Jasmine stroked her little head, feeling that she really did look a bit like Sweet Kitty she’d picked up back then.
The afterglow of the sunset trailed along the way home.
Once they got home, Little Clementine tore the bag open and kept reaching her little hand inside, rummaging around. Unfortunately, her hand was too small to reach.
Jasmine helped her take everything out.
It turned out not to be anything expensive like a gold bracelet, but a bunch of little trinkets that girls liked, like lollipops, hair clips, ribbons, and fairy-tale storybooks. Just small things, enough to fill a paper bag.
Jasmine picked out a sparkling moon-shaped hair clip and held it in her palm, looking at it.
