Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2661: Take Me to the Hospital
Under the lights, the crystal on the moon shimmered with a lustrous glow.
Little Clementine curiously stared at the hairpin.
"Want me to put it on for you?" Jasmine Yale asked her.
Little Clementine was still looking.
Jasmine Yale clipped the hairpin onto her dark, thick short hair, and it looked quite pretty.
Under the lamp, Jasmine Yale gazed at Little Clementine’s delicate, sculpted face and smiled.
The more she smiled, the more her smile froze on her face, with a slow, dullness flowing in her eyes.
...
Sylvan Cheney didn’t continue staying in Cakago; a few days later, he went on a business trip back to the Old York Headquarters.
The night stars were especially clear, with light clouds floating in the sky.
The president’s office was situated on the top floor, and below the floor-to-ceiling windows stretched an endless city, ablaze with lights, glittering and prosperous—this was the busiest part of Old York.
Below was the bustling metropolis, above was the quiet starry sky.
Sylvan Cheney finished approving several project progress plans, lit a cigarette, and stood by the window looking at Old York City, with boundless solitude in his deep eyes.
It was already half-past midnight.
There were still quite a few files piled up on the desk, and the entire spacious office was silent as could be.
The light from the cigarette flickered at the window; his well-defined face hidden in the hazy smoke, the facial lines cold and stern.
Recently, his sleep quality had been poor; even though it was already early morning, he had no desire to sleep.
After smoking, he felt even less like sleeping.
Sylvan Cheney simply sat down at the desk, took out the locked files from the drawer to review them one by one. When tired, he didn’t go back to the darkroom, but rather made do with sleeping the night away in the chair.
Although he hadn’t drunk any alcohol, his head ached unbearably during the night, some fragmented, shattered images flashed through his mind.
Unable to bear it, he took a sleeping pill to suppress his thoughts.
This time, he didn’t dream, and slept straight through until morning.
At dawn, sunlight streamed through the window.
He was awakened by the sound of knocking.
"Come in."
"Evan, you’ve been working too hard, stayed in the office all night?" Erin Janus remarked in surprise, "The butler said you didn’t return to the villa, so I came to check."
Sylvan Cheney rubbed his temple: "Oh, I accidentally fell asleep."
"Are these all for you to handle? My father is really something, he hands everything to you when his deputy managers aren’t that competent?" Erin Janus stood before Sylvan Cheney, heavily pregnant.
"These are part of my job." Sylvan Cheney stood up, tidying the files on the desk, "Why did you come over?"
"To make sure you take me to the hospital, today is the scheduled prenatal check-up, you see, you’ve been so busy you forgot."
"Oh, got it."
"Last night my sleep wasn’t great, our daughter was quite restless, the due date is near, and I’m not sure when she’ll be born."
"Follow the doctor’s advice, there won’t be any problems."
"I know! Shall we head over now?"
"Sure."
Sylvan Cheney headed out with Erin Janus.
Passing by Kieran Janus’s chairman office, Kieran happened to come by: "Evan, taking Erin out to have fun?"
"Fun? Dad, you handed so much work to Evan, where does he find time to take me out?"
"It’s all work from the financial district, you know it’s always been Evan in charge, he can’t leave." Kieran Janus reassured his daughter.
Sylvan Cheney nodded: "Yes, I’ll try my best to make time to go out with Erin, now preparing to take her for a prenatal check-up."
"Oh, go on then, it’s a big matter. Your daughter is about to be born, I’ll be upgrading to grandfather too."
