First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3095 - The Limits of Fate
The second section of the Spirit Platform Chapter included three divine abilities involving the Book of Destiny: the Abyss of Ceaseless Damnation, the Seal of Light, and Lamplit Replenishment.
Su Yi had long since mastered the first two, but even after all this time, he couldn’t grasp even the basics of Lamplit Replenishment.
But now, as he exhausted his secret heart power to bring Mo Hanyi back, Su Yi grasped it. It was as if he’d finally crossed the threshold and realized what mysteries hid within this divine ability!
Only now did he realize that the true wondrous application of this divine ability lay in using the Natal Heart Lamp to guide the power of the Book of Destiny. In doing so, he could restore others’ vital source energy.
However, this was on the condition that an imprint of their vital source energy existed in the Book of Destiny.
That meant that, so long as he was willing, Su Yi could use Lamplit Replenishment to restore the owners of every true name emblazoned in the Book of Destiny!
This was also what had enabled him to save Mo Hanyi.
However, after grasping this divine ability’s mysteries, Su Yi realized that his method of saving Mo Hanyi had been far too crude. He’d relied on nothing but brute force...
Had he grasped Lamplit Replenishment earlier, he would never have expended so much power.
If I can save anyone whose imprint is left in the Book of Destiny, what... about Xiao Jian?
The thought made his heart clench.
Xiao Jian had helped him, answered his questions, and alleviated his concerns on numerous occasions.
The last time he did so, the power he’d left on the second page of the Book of Destiny dissipated completely.
Had Xiao Jian’s imprint still been in the Book of Destiny, Su Yi could likely have brought him back, but now it seemed all but impossible!
The thought made Su Yi frown. His heart sank into the pit of his stomach.
No, it should still be possible. The secret Xiao Jian used to cling to life initially was hidden on the third page. That means there’s got to be a way to save him waiting on the third page... Su Yi took a deep breath and forced himself to stay calm. That aside, I’ve mastered the power of reincarnation. I won’t give up until the very end!
As Su Yi’s thoughts raced, the Destiny Demons gathered around Mo Hanyi. All of them were excited and full of joy.
But Mo Hanyi just walked over to Su Yi, smiled, and clasped his fist. “Thank you for bringing me back, Chosen!”
He looked the same as before. There was no indication that he’d been killed previously.
Su Yi looked him up and down, then asked one simple question. “Do you still have your cultivation base?”
Mo Hanyi smiled. “I’m lucky to have survived. I dare not hope for anything so extravagant as a full recovery.”
Su Yi instantly understood. When that Daoist Guan Shui killed Mo Hanyi, he must have badly damaged his foundations in the Grand Dao!
“Is there any hope of recovery in the future?” asked Su Yi.
“There is!” said Mo Hanyi.
Then, more tentatively, he added, “But... I suspect I have no hope of achieving any further breakthroughs in this lifetime.”
Despite himself, the light in his eyes dimmed as he said this.
Su Yi pondered briefly, then said, “There are no absolutes in this world, and the future is not yet determined. I’ll naturally do everything in my power to help you.”
He took out a palm-sized copper disc and passed it to Mo Hanyi. “This is called the Compass of Fate. Consider it a token of my appreciation. Don’t refuse.”
Mo Hanyi looked stunned, then tried to refuse anyway. “I went to my death willingly. I wasn’t after any sort of reward!”
Su Yi disregarded his protests. “If you refuse even the slightest token of my appreciation, how am I to consider you one of my own?”
This time, Mo Hanyi didn’t refuse. He straightforwardly accepted the compass.
“Also, I’ll do what I can to give the other Destiny Demons a chance to submit,” said Su Yi. “But don’t hate me should the worst come to pass.”
Mo Hanyi took a deep breath. “That puts my mind at ease. I dare not ask for any more!”
He knew that Su Yi’s promise hadn’t come easily. It was his willingness to risk his life and die in battle that had changed Su Yi’s attitude. How could Mo Hanyi demand any more than that?
“The Negative Karma Destiny Demons will have a chance to break free within just a few years. When the time comes, I’ll come back to hear your advice,” said Su Yi. Then, he turned to leave.
Mo Hanyi stood there in a daze. The seal on the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Zone will break within just a few years?
In the past, this would have been absolutely delightful news, but now, it was both delightful and worrisome!
As the former Sovereign Preceptor of the Negative Karma Destiny Demons, he was keenly aware that there was no way most of the Destiny Demons would submit to Destiny’s Chosen, not even to give their Sovereign Preceptor face.
I’ll just have to take things one step at a time. Mo Hanyi sighed to himself. He finally understood what Su Yi was getting at when he left.
But in truth, Su Yi hadn’t yet left. Just as his heart power had been about to leave, the voice of the Monarch of Endless Tribulations emanated from the first page of the Book of Destiny.
“Please wait, Fellow Daoist Su!”
......
When Su Yi finally withdrew his heart power, he couldn’t help but frown. He’d resolved his business with Mo Hanyi, only for problems to arise with the Monarch of Endless Tribulations and the Buddha of Non-Existence.
Strictly speaking, the problems weren’t with the clones in the Book of Destiny, but rather with their true bodies in the Abyss of Endless Tribulations.
According to the Monarch of Endless Tribulations, half a month prior—that is, just as the battle in the Sea of Fate came to a close—both clones in the Book of Destiny suffered a severe backlash originating from their true bodies.
They could say with certainty that something had happened to their true bodies, implicating their clones.
Thus, both of them said they hoped that Su Yi could visit the Abyss of Endless Tribulations in the near future. Both assured him that they just wanted to get a handle on the situation, and there was no need for Su Yi to get involved in their enmity personally.
Su Yi mulled it over briefly, then agreed. Both the Monarch of Endless Tribulations and the Buddha of Non-Existence had helped him on numerous occasions throughout the past few years.
Su Yi naturally wouldn’t refuse their request now. In the end, he decided to settle things in the Sea of Fate, then head straight for the Abyss of Endless Tribulations.
He’d have to check on the Aberrants of the Heart-Tempering Sword House later.
He took out a jug of wine, drank for a bit, then walked out of the cabin and onto the deck. There, he saw the two River Ancestors conversing in apparent high spirits.
“How are your injuries?” he asked.
“We’ve fully recovered, Chosen.” Both River Ancestors hurriedly rose to greet him.
“Good. Wait here for now. I’m going deeper into the Sea of Fate alone. When I return, we’ll leave together,” ordered Su Yi.
“Your Excellency, past this point, the Sea of Fate is incomparably perilous,” said River Ancestor Luo Yu. “How about we...”
“No need,” said Su Yi. Then, without waiting for River Ancestor Luo Yu to argue, he shot off, unrestrained and dashing as could be.
The River Ancestors exchanged glances. Both felt a bit strange.
“Why do I get the sense that... we’re increasingly useless to Destiny’s Chosen?” asked River Ancestor Luo Yu.
River Ancestor Hu Chan sighed. “I finally understand how transcendent an existence he is. Even if we can fight Heavenly Sovereigns, we can’t think too highly of ourselves in front of Destiny’s Chosen!”
......
The dome of heaven was shrouded in dense tribulation clouds.
The Sea of Fate had returned to its usual deathly silence. The atmosphere was utterly oppressive, and the surface of the ocean was utterly still, as smooth and still as a mirror.
Su Yi was surprised to discover numerous treasures floating on the water’s surface. They were old and fragmented, but they didn’t sink. It was a rather strange sight.
It was obvious at a glance that the broken treasures weren’t of this age. They must have been from the Primordial Era, and all of them showed signs of wear and tear.
The sight piqued Su Yi’s interest. Most of the treasures that had sunk into the Sea of Fate only rose to the surface during storms of Fate Tribulation Light.
But now, all of these treasures were scattered across the water’s surface, and they showed no sign of sinking. Something strange was clearly afoot.
Don’t tell me that this is the influence of our recent battle on the Sea of Fate? Su Yi couldn’t help but wonder even as he raced along. He surveyed his surroundings, keeping an eye out for any disturbance as he moved.
Suddenly, he took out the Medallion of Past Karma and tapped the air from afar.
Boom!
The distant Sea of Fate churned. Waves rose into the air, stirring up the fragmented treasures.
Su Yi stretched out his hand and grabbed, pulling a stalk of medicine into his hand. This was another Heavenly Fate Elixir!
Heavenly Fate Elixirs were supremely rare and precious, the greatest medicines of the Path of Eternity.
Yet now, one such treasure had been floating ownerless on the Sea of Fate. All Su Yi had to do was grab it.
Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising.
Of course, this wouldn’t have been so easy for anyone else, as the seawater neutralized all external powers. Even if a treasure was right in front of them, most experts could forget about acquiring it.
Strange. Not even the Heavenly Fate Elixir sank. Has something gone wrong with the Sea of Fate?
Su Yi examined the medicine for a while, delighted despite his confusion. He didn’t even need to think to know that he would reach the peak of the Immeasurable Realm so long as he refined this stalk of medicine.
That meant that he’d be just one step away from the Heavenly Fate Realm. All he needed now was the right opportunity.
Su Yi put the medicine away, then resumed his journey.
Before long, he realized that he’d yet to encounter even the slightest danger along the way. The Sovereign Corpses, Fate Tribulation Light, and other assorted calamities... had all vanished. He was the only one here, a living person rushing through the deathly silence and stillness.
Moreover, he proceeded to pick up another Heavenly Fate Elixir, then another. They were just lying there waiting for him. He didn’t encounter any kind of danger, either.
Even though Su Yi had seen plenty of good fortune over the years, he could never have anticipated this. It was like meat pies raining down from the sky.
But at the same time, he noticed that despite the enormous abundance of magic treasure fragments he saw along the way, all of them were effectively scrap metal. There wasn’t even a single complete Heavenly Sovereign weapon.
Yet he was encountering quite a few Heavenly Fate Elixirs. He’d gathered five already!
“That’s...” An hour later, Su Yi came to a halt, then gazed into the distance.
There, the tribulation clouds were so dense and thick that they bore down on the surface of the water. There was no path through them.
Su Yi instantly realized something. This had to be the far end of the Sea of Fate!
