Chapter 206: Chapter 4: Unbridled Display of Talent (Part 2)
He couldn’t fathom the connection between Divination Formulas and correcting sleeping posture. The Suggestion Letter had successfully piqued his curiosity.
Vincent remained silent, but his expression had grown a little more serious.
Rock’s gaze shifted down a few lines, scanning over a complex Divination array. A flicker of shock crossed his face. "Mo Ning even created a biological Divination Model?!"
Divination could be applied to anything.
Transforming living organisms into Divination Models was a major breakthrough that emerged after the tenth millennium of the New Era. Twenty-two millennia had passed since then, so the Apprentices were quite familiar with the concept.
And anyone qualified to be a tamer for the Iron-Horned War Rhinoceros would naturally be aware of this area of the Knowledge of Divination.
But it was precisely because he was familiar with it that Rock was so astonished. ’Is this level of knowledge really something a rookie who hasn’t even formed a Spirit Ring should be dabbling in?’
Vincent and Rock exchanged an involuntary glance. They both realized at the same time that there was more to this Suggestion Letter than met the eye.
Rock’s gaze fell back to the page. He began to study the biological Divination Model in earnest, muttering to himself.
"This looks like Hook’s Seventh Biological Program. It specializes in the changes of growing, high-hardness bone tissue, which is quite appropriate for this War Rhinoceros...
"And this is Levin’s Fifth Biomechanical Derivation Formula. It’s mainly for calculating the development of high-strength muscles, so using it to assess the War Rhinoceros’s musculature is also correct..."
The more he read, the more impressed he was. "The derivation is concise and clear, and the logic is sound..."
After all, it was only a simple Suggestion Letter. The Knowledge of Divination on biology involved was fairly basic, so the two Second Level Apprentices could understand it without much effort.
However, the very act of using Divination Formulas just to prove a point about the War Rhinoceros’s neck muscles—and the mode of thinking the Suggestion Letter embodied—truly astonished them.
Rock couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. "No wonder Mo Ning was able to write that paper on the ’Triangular Wing’ and even get noticed by an Official Wizard."
He could see an innate Divinatory Thinking in this Suggestion Letter. Even for a minor suggestion, Mo Ning had used rigorously logical Divination Formulas to support his argument, leaving no room for fault.
Vincent wasn’t a man of many words. He just nodded lightly. "The rookies these days are really something else."
Rock shrugged. "Mo Ning is a once-in-a-generation genius. Good-for-nothings like Andy are the norm."
As for the conflict between Andy and Mo Ning, the two apprentices saw the situation clearly from the sidelines.
Andy was being completely overshadowed by a rookie who had enrolled a year after him, and the two of them had been enjoying the show.
Rock brought the conversation back on topic. "The analysis in the Suggestion Letter is spot on. There really is a problem with Kent’s neck muscles. No wonder it’s always shaking its head around. It was trying to relieve the discomfort."
He clicked his tongue. "Tsk, tsk. We’ve been in this Taming Room for so many years and never noticed a thing. Yet a rookie who’s only been here a month spots the problem."
Vincent’s attitude was much more serene. "We’re just ordinary Apprentices. It’s perfectly normal that we can’t compare to a genius."
He looked down at the scale pattern paper and smiled. "Mo Ning’s suggestion at the end of the letter is excellent. Performing corrective therapy on Kent’s neck muscles and getting it a set of custom-made bedding will save me a lot of trouble."
The Suggestion Letter even included design schematics for the specialized bedding, complete with Divination calculations explaining the reasoning behind the design in detail.
Vincent read it through twice, his admiration growing with each pass.
Rock’s mind began to wander. "I have a feeling if this Suggestion Letter were polished up a bit, it could get published in *Shine* or *Mystery*."
Vincent hummed in agreement. "Reviewers would probably be interested in a paper like this, one that uses Divination to solve a practical problem."
But it was only a chance, nothing more.
If the paper were placed before a reviewer, it would, at best, receive a low-grade evaluation. It would be difficult to get it published in a journal unless they were short on submissions.
Nevertheless, in the eyes of the two Second Level Apprentices, this was still a shocking prospect.
After all, the pinnacle of most Second Level Apprentices’ ability was to write a single low-grade paper and then wait for the lucky day it might get published.
What they didn’t know, however, was that Mo Ning had absolutely no interest in writing a paper of that caliber.
For the current him, if a paper’s title couldn’t include keywords like "innovative," "practical," or "insightful," he wouldn’t even bother picking up a pen.
It couldn’t be helped. His standards were simply higher now.
Vincent carefully put the Suggestion Letter away, bringing the conversation to a close. "I’m going to go treat Kent’s neck muscle problem."
Rock watched his colleague’s departing back and etched the name "Mo Ning" deep into his mind.
*****
「An hour later.」
Mo Ning closed the copy of *Divination Power Analysis and Calculation* in his hands and neatened a thick stack of scratch paper.
This was the fruit of his last hour of study.
He had only read fifteen pages, yet he’d filled nearly fifty sheets of scratch paper. They were covered in dense script detailing his understanding of the book’s content, along with the various inspirations that had struck him as he read.
The sensation of navigating a storm of knowledge was incredibly exhilarating.
THUMP! THUMP!
The sound of two War Rhinoceroses’ footsteps echoed from the activity yard outside the tool shed.
This meant they had awoken from their afternoon nap.
Just from the sound of their footsteps, he could tell that Kent and Barce were in a good mood.
Mo Ning smiled to himself, pushed the door open, and walked out.
The moment he stepped outside, he spotted the figure of that unlucky fellow, Andy.
