Global Descent: I Alone Can See Hidden Evolution Paths
Chapter 221: They won’t just scan the hull,
The lower drainage tunnel didn’t keep its dry, volcanic sulfur heat for long. The further the five unranked handcarts ground into the dark basalt tracks, the lower the stone ceiling dipped, forcing Tae-woo and the elite vanguards to slant their massive shoulders to keep their basin rock shields from scraping the raw granite roof.
The air turned slick, heavy with a thick, brackish dampness that tasted of old iron filings, cold river sludge, and the distinct, chemical hum of a central district blockade grid running somewhere directly above their heads.
Jun-ho walked at the front of the line, his large rubber boots making a flat, wet squelch-crunch against the fine layer of gray ash covering the stone floor boards. The newly bound Monarch’s Torc sat cold and heavy beneath his collarbone, the three-inch black iron bands hidden under his gray shirt, but the deep ash-gray current coming off the metal was active, pulsing through his veins like frozen water. Every ten seconds, his lines would shift, the gray numbers in his left eye sitting rock-steady in the gloom.

Rea walked right against his left elbow, her long bare legs sliding over the wet stone tracks with a slow, fluid sway that kept the high-slashed silk of her black tunic rustling softly against his denim trousers. The narrowness of the tunnel forced her voluptuous hip to wedge tightly against his hip bone with every step, her bare skin smooth and burning hot from the engine oil vapor rising through the floor vents. Under the yellow glare of her small hand-lantern, her golden-blue eyes spun slowly, tracking the grease lines on the ceiling, while her full crimson lips stayed parted in that same lazy, teasing smile.
"The old shipping dock is less than two hundred meters through this crack, big guy," Rea whispered, her voice dropping into a smooth, sultry register that was close against his ear, her orchid perfume thick and sweet against the foul stench of the sewer. She leaned her entire chest flat against his stone-gray shoulder guard, her fingers tracing a slow, light line down his forearm with a possessive, light friction. "Old Man Jo’s private lugger is already tied to the lower iron wharf. I logged the clearance key into the hull console before we left the forge. If the naval cutters try to scan our hull from the bridge, they’ll only see a standard logistics log for a scrap iron barge."
"They won’t just scan the hull, water girl," Lilith’s voice cut through the dark, her tone a smooth, velvety purr that trembled with a sudden, sharp spike of absolute devotion.
The beautiful demon girl moved right on Jun-ho’s opposite side, her exceptionally long, smooth legs cutting a clean, fluid line through the low purple mist of the floor. The tight crimson leather of her outfit pulled dangerously flat across her large, perfectly round fit ass as she twisted her thin waist with a deliberate, heavy rhythm to stay wedged right against his bare right arm.
Her massive, half-visible chest rose and fell in quick, deep gasps, the leather straining against her rounded fullness as she tilted her face up, her luminous crimson eyes glowing with a fierce, dangerous fire under her long ink-black hair. She reached out her long fingers, her sharp crimson nails catching the wet hem of his gray shirt, pulling his torso an inch closer to her shoulder.
"The central registry just updated their maritime loop," Lilith murmured, her full red lips almost touching his jawline as she let out a low, breathless chuckle. "The regional director didn’t wait for the morning shift to clear the terminal; he sent a private wire to the main flagship Sun King to drop the heavy electronic line nets across the river mouth. They know the treasury vaults were emptied from the lower siding. If you don’t let me guide the rudder through the black channels, your wooden hull will turn into splinters before you can even touch the reef line."
"Move your chest back, demon," Eun-bi’s sharp, furious voice barked from right behind his shoulder.
The little nurse was running behind the front line, her heavy canvas bag slung tight across her gray flannel shirt. Her dark hair was wet and messy, loose strands sticking to her forehead from the sweat of the lower channels, but her sharp face was completely rigid with an intense, biting jealousy. She jammed her heavy rubber boot right between Lilith’s leather trousers and the side of Jun-ho’s jeans, her bare thigh pressing hard against his shins for stability as the floorboards sloped down toward the water. She kept a tight, angry grip on her silver trauma scissors, her fingers clicking the blades together with a sharp, impatient snap.
"The database log is still running the core synchronization, Jun-ho," Eun-bi said, her voice dropping into that flat, quiet public-sector drawl that was thick with an intense, sharp irritation. "If you let these two independent brokers crowd the narrow track with their tunics and their leather straps, the system will trace the mana displacement before we can even clear the drainage outlet. The registry belongs to the collective squad, not their private bedroom."
Rea let out a short, soft laugh that sounded like silk sliding over stone, her golden-blue eyes spinning in a lazy, dangerous circle as her full crimson lips tightened slightly into a jealous line. She leaned her voluptuous hourglass shape even closer into Jun-ho’s left flank, her bare arm rubbing against his shirt fabric with a heavy, possessive friction. "The little nurse is right about the timer, big guy. The demon girl is a bit too greedy with her placement. She thinks because she signed the soul bind she owns the whole ledger line."
Lilith let out a low, dangerous growl through her teeth, her crimson eyes flaring with a dark fire as her voluptuous hips leaned even harder into Jun-ho’s side, her large chest pressing flat against his ribs to mark her territory. "The book has already locked my spirit to his chest, water girl. My hand is locked to his line, and the room down here doesn’t check the size of your scissors."
Jun-ho didn’t pull back an inch from any of them. His face remained an unmoving sheet of stone under his gray hood, his large rubber boots keeping a steady, unwavering stride until the narrow basalt path finally broke open into the dark, oily expanse of the central district’s underground industrial shipping dock.
The water inside the secret basin was dead calm, a thick, purplish sludge that didn’t rise or fall, reflecting the low red glare of the emergency lamps hanging from the iron roof. Tied to a row of rusted timber pilings at the end of the concrete wharf sat Rea’s private black lugger, its single copper exhaust pipe already cold under the mist.
But the exit to the open river wasn’t clear.
Two hundred meters ahead, where the underground canal broke out through the high concrete sea walls of the city sector, a massive sheet of dirty blue energy filled the entire forty-foot archway from the water to the brick ceiling—the Ministry’s electronic line net. It wasn’t a standard gate; it was a heavy, military-grade barrier laced with thousands of tiny, glowing red mana-lock threads that twisted and turned like living wires inside the mineral logic.
"The flagship Sun King is sitting right on the outside of that arch, Jun-ho!" Tae-woo shouted, his broken nose twitching as he hauled the first handcart to the edge of the timber slipway, his large hand tightening around his iron crowbar until the metal shrieked. "They’ve dropped three auxiliary search hulls broadside across the channel mouth! The moment we touch that blue net, their deck mages will lock our props from behind!"
Jun-ho didn’t answer him. He slung his canvas duffel bag over his right shoulder, his left hand shifting his grip on the rough black hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant. The solid four-foot wedge of ink-black metal felt light as a piece of pine in his fist, the four ancient characters near the raw slag crossguard glowing with that slow, white-hot fire that cast no light but made the purplish sludge beneath the pier ripple in small, perfect circles.
He reached into his duffel bag with his bare right hand, his fingers closing around the cold brass lock of The Monarch’s Ledger.
"We don’t turn the rudder back," Jun-ho said, his voice quiet, sounding like a regular guy talking about the weather.
[The Monarch’s Ledger System Active.]
[Target Sector: Ministry Electronic Line Net (Sector 0-North Access).]
[Applying 10x Area Multiplier to local drop logic through Phase 3 framework...]
[Mana Cost: 1000. Current Mana: 1200/6500.]
He pressed the small brass button down.
A sharp, heavy click exploded through the entire underground basin—a mechanical sound that didn’t travel through the ears, but froze the mana pathways of the room instantly. The massive sheet of blue energy didn’t grow larger; it turned a deep, solid blood-red color, the thin red threads inside the portal twisting and turning like living wires as the ancient ledger rewrote the entire gate logic of the mile-wide sector.
"Tae-woo, lock the boards," Jun-ho ordered flatly.
"Got it, boss!" the big vanguard grunted.
Tae-woo and the four elite front-line units burst onto the lugger’s deck, their massive new Tier 4 frames making the oak hull dip low into the silt. They didn’t say a word. They stepped right up to the bow rail, their massive arms hoisting the wide blocks of dark basin rock, slamming the stone edges flat against the timber bulwarks to form a solid, five-man mountain wall that completely covered the front deck.
Jun-ho took two long steps forward, his large rubber boots landing flat on the non-slip fiberglass bow. He raised his sword with his left hand, letting the vast, expanded lake of six thousand mana points break its banks completely.
[Activating Trait: Ashen Domain - Phase 3.]
[Perimeter State: 50 meters (Extended by the Monarch’s Torc).]
[Mana Cost: 500 per minute. Current Mana: 700/6500.]
Whoosh.
A sudden, circular wave of thick grey frost blew outward from his boots, instantly turning the wet deck plates and the churning purplish water into a flat, motionless sheet of solid white ice. The transformation was massive; the perimeter line shot fifty meters out across the open basin, turning the entire channel mouth between the lugger and the line net into a white disc of hard glass.
The temperature inside the circle dropped forty degrees in a microsecond, the heavy white steam from the diesel boiler freezing into a wall of solid gray crystals that fell to the wood like sand.
The world inside the fifty-meter perimeter slowed down until the red tracking loops inside the Ministry flagship’s visors looked like lazy, sputtering match flames hanging still in the fog.
The old wooden lugger hit the frozen white sheet of ice at full throttle, the heavy oak bow grinding through the frost with a loud, rhythmic roar that sounded like a giant saw cutting through timber. The boat rode right over the top of the weighted line net, the mana-lock weave completely frozen and cracked into useless gray threads under the pressure of his domain before the flagship’s mages could even lift their silver staves.
"The blockade is cleared, Jun-ho," Eun-bi called out from the wheelhouse window, her voice returning to that flat, public-sector drawl, though her sharp eyes were bright with a dry, dangerous smile. "The channel out past the twelve-mile reef is wide open. The auditors won’t see a single digit on their screens until the morning shift logs in."
"Let’s go take the outer gates," Jun-ho said flatly, his fingers settling perfectly around the rough black hemp wrap of his sword as the dark boat launched straight into the deep water of the open sea.
