Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 500 Let Me Try
‘Who could stand this?’
“You didn’t seek me out just for these simple questions, did you? What is it you want to know?”
Bebuta tilted his head slightly, looked at Li Ziyu, and asked calmly.
After signing the contract, he had resigned himself to his fate.
A Soul Contract was different from other contracts. It was a type of pact that was nearly impossible to break.
The more powerful and high-level a Warrior, the more deeply they understood this.
To those who weren’t particularly strong, all truly binding pacts seemed more or less the same. Whether it was a Divine Contract, a Law Contract, or a Soul Contract, there was no significant difference.
The bottom line was, if you violated the contract, you would be punished.
But for powerful Warriors, this wasn’t the case.
In their eyes, pacts like the Divine Contract and the Law Contract had loopholes. For example, a Divine Contract relied on a Divine Spirit to act as a guarantor. What if that Divine Spirit died? Or what if the Divine Spirit wasn’t powerful enough?
The contract would naturally lose its binding effect, becoming nothing more than a worthless piece of paper.
Then there was the Law Contract, which was typically tied to a single world.
If one left the world where the oath was sworn, the Law Contract would become ineffective.
For a powerful Warrior, accomplishing such things wasn’t particularly difficult.
The only exception was the Soul Contract.
This type of contract was the most absolute.
A Soul Contract required no guarantor—or rather, the guarantor was one’s own soul.
Any violation of the contract would immediately affect the soul, and that was fatal.
Take Bebuta, for instance. He could survive losing half his body and even recover from it.
But those were just external injuries. If his soul were damaged, recovery would be next to impossible.
For every known living being, the soul was far more important than the body.
After signing the Soul Contract, Bebuta knew he couldn’t escape. He was now bound to the Human before him.
“I need a Void Crystal.”
Since Bebuta had asked so directly, Li Ziyu didn’t hide anything and stated his request plainly.
When Bebuta heard the two words “Void Crystal,” he was visibly stunned.
“A Void Crystal?”
he asked Li Ziyu, seeking confirmation in his confusion.
Li Ziyu nodded.
“That’s not something difficult to obtain.”
“Oh? But I was told they are very rare.”
Li Ziyu grew confused.
‘If they aren’t that rare, why has the Tribe acquired so few?’
“To you, Void Crystals are rare, but for us Void Creatures, they aren’t hard to come by.”
As Bebuta spoke, he extended his intact hand and tapped the air. A small hole, just large enough to fit his palm, appeared in the Void.
He reached his hand into the Void, pulled out a piece of Crystal, and held it out to Li Ziyu.
It seemed Void Crystals really weren’t anything special.
To make an analogy, a Void Energy Crystal Stone is like plain rice to a Void Creature.
They have to eat it regularly, or they’ll go hungry.
A Void Crystal, on the other hand, is more like… a sandwich…
If you have one, you eat it. If not, eating plain rice is just fine.
However, what was commonplace for Void Creatures was a genuinely good item for Li Ziyu and his people.
Li Ziyu took the Void Crystal from Bebuta’s hand and began to examine it.
It was a prism, about 8 to 10 centimeters long. If not for the blue Void Energy swirling within, it wouldn’t look much different from an ordinary Crystal at first glance.
“Is this really a Void Crystal? Can it open a Teleportation Gate that will let me travel to and from the Void Land?”
Li Ziyu still found it a little hard to believe.
‘It was this easy to get one?’
‘I thought I’d have to search for some time.’
“Open a Teleportation Gate?”
Bebuta glanced at Li Ziyu in confusion, then realization dawned on him.
He understood what Li Ziyu meant.
“Even without a Void Crystal, I can open a Teleportation Gate for you, allowing you to return here.”
A hint of exasperation colored Bebuta’s tone.
‘Just how little does this guy think of me?’
‘I’m a Lord Level being, after all. Does he really need to ask me for a Void Crystal for something as trivial as opening a Teleportation Gate?’
Traversing the walls of the Void was nothing for a Void Creature.
Just as Humans are born with the ability to control their own hands, Void Creatures are born with the ability to traverse the Void.
A Teleportation Gate opened with a Void Crystal could also let someone traverse the Void, but the risk was actually quite high.
A Teleportation Gate opened by a Void Creature and one opened with a Void Crystal were two completely different concepts.
Void Creatures use their Void Attribute to naturally melt a hole in the Void, which doesn’t damage its walls.
Once that melted hole in the Void disappears, the Void returns to its original state.
A Void Crystal, however, forcefully drills a crooked, unstable Wormhole through the walls of the Void, one that is thick in some places and thin in others.
While both could get you through the walls of the Void, the Wormhole created by a Void Creature was clearly safer. It could also be targeted, making it far superior.
A Void Crystal, in contrast, consumed a great deal of Energy, was highly dangerous, couldn’t be targeted, and resulted in a completely random teleport. Due to its uneven Energy distribution, it was very likely to collapse under the pressure of the Void’s walls.
Here was this person, ignoring a perfectly good Lord Level Void Creature, and instead wanting to use a Void Crystal.
It felt a little insulting.
Bebuta’s reminder made Li Ziyu finally recall.
When Bebuta had appeared before them, he had come through a Wormhole, which meant he possessed the ability to open them.
