Chapter 1993: Incident at the City gate

Chapter 1993: Incident at the City gate

Darkwood City

I heard Lord Charlotte’s voice and sighed in relief. Then, I took a deep breath before saying, "Lord, I need your help."

"What happened?" Charlotte asked.

"Is the Forbidden Wizard Remi troubling you?" she asked further. She had heard about the matter from Manager Lara, and she had been shocked and angry ever since.

"It’s not about that. I’m in Darkwood City. I have captured City Lord Bryan. He was compromised; he knows about the enemy force."

"They had him under control due to an evil spell. I think it’s not safe to interrogate him myself. That’s why I decided to hand him over to you," I said to her in a calm tone.

There was silence on the other side of the call. Charlotte was digesting the information, because the news was too sudden for her.

She hadn’t expected Vincent Carey to achieve a breakthrough in this matter so soon.

She then said, "Alright, I’m coming there with a few members of our faction. Just wait for half an hour."

"Okay," I replied.

She ended the call. I put away the device in relief, left the room, and came across the members. I told them that I was going to take a breather outside.

A few minutes later...

I left the hotel and came to the main street. Just then, I noticed the official vehicles of the City Lord’s office heading toward the city gate.

Seeing that, I raised my eyebrows. It was possible that the news of the City Lord’s disappearance had spread. It could also be possible that officials wanted the news to be concealed for the time being.

Lord Charlotte had told me to wait for half an hour. I thought it was not wise to roam outside; it was highly possible for the enemy forces to have eyes and ears here.

If the news were to reach them, they would do everything to find City Lord Bryan. I turned around and looked back at the hotel.

Then, I took my gaze off it. I decided to go outside the city to hand over City Lord Bryan. Who knew? The enemies could have tricks up their sleeves.

I didn’t want the members to get caught in the middle.

After figuring things out, I approached a nearby cab. I told the driver to take me to the City Gate, and the driver agreed.

Creak!

I opened the back door of the cab and stepped inside. The driver then started driving.

A few minutes later...

The cab arrived in front of the city gate. When it came to a halt, I stepped outside the car and paid the fare to the driver.

Then, I moved towards the city gate. This time, the city gate seemed to be locked. There were more officials gathered in front of the gate than usual.

I ignored the crowd and tried to leave through the gate.

Suddenly, a few officials blocked my path.

Seeing that, I paused my footsteps and looked at them. At this time, the other guards got closer as well.

Everyone felt the masked man was suspicious. Among them were the guards who had allowed me to enter the city earlier.

They were nervous. They didn’t dare to check because they were afraid of the masked man.

"Who are you?"

"Take off your mask," an official from the City Lord’s office demanded.

Hearing that, I was about to show them my Silver Tower badge. Just then, a system notification sounded in my mind.

[Ding! The City official is under the effect of an evil spell.]

The next second, I dismissed the idea of showing the Silver Tower badge.

"Your authority is not enough to command me. Just open the main gate," I said to the person in a threatening tone.

Hearing that, the faces of the guards changed drastically. The official’s face turned ugly. The worst-case scenario had happened.

The officials understood that this person had an unusual identity.

Some of them retreated. Yet, the official under the spell didn’t move. He seemed to be under the control of something else.

"Take off your mask. Otherwise, I will arrest you," the official said, stepping forward.

The expressions of the others turned even worse. They started to worry, afraid that the masked man was from a major force. It could backfire on them.

More importantly, City Lord Bryan was not here in the city. He had left the office. The two officials who had been attacked earlier hadn’t reported it to the others.

They were scared for their lives. They didn’t know who had attacked them, but they were sure that the person was powerful. They themselves were level-9 wizards.

They had wanted to inform the City Lord earlier, but City Lord Bryan was nowhere to be seen. It made them even more terrified.

So, they didn’t dare to utter a word about the attack. When others asked them about the City Lord, they lied and said City Lord Bryan had left the office.

Now, the official came face to face with me. I could tell he was not in his right mind. If he were sane, he would have been terrified right now.

My gaze swept across the others. The other officials took a few steps backward. None of them were Supreme Wizards.

"You are wasting time," the official said, suddenly casting a magic spell.

A red magic circle appeared in front of him.

Boom!

A flicker of fire appeared.

The other officials were terrified. They hadn’t expected one of their own to cast a magic spell against the masked man.

The masked man was a Supreme Wizard.

Boom!

I released a slight coercion from my body. The Supreme-level pressure was enough to crush a level-9 Wizard.

The next second, the pressure hit the official. The impact force sent his body flying. The official flew backward before slamming into the city gate.

The bones in the official’s body broke. He was on the brink of death, but there was still a lingering breath left in him.

Seeing that, the other officials were shocked. They didn’t dare to get close. They were no fools; they understood something was deeply wrong with the official.

"Don’t let him die. At least keep him alive for half an hour," I said to the others.
