The next morning,
After getting ready, I left the room and came to the living area. Then I started watching the news channels on the device.
I saw the news media reporting about an increase in the surveillance of city officials. They didn’t know the reason behind it.
Everyone speculated that it could be related to the Magic City. But they didn’t know that it was actually because City Lord Bryan was not here.
The officials mistakenly assumed that he had gone somewhere. But they didn’t know he wouldn’t return anyway.
Next, I began to think about the members. If they returned empty-handed, then I could think about going to the next city.
Darkwood City had lost its value. I should be visiting other cities as well. I was sure Holden Barrett and the others were one step ahead of me.
A hint of worry flashed in my eyes. I was hoping that the higher-ups had gotten something from City Lord Bryan.
In that way, my contribution to the White Silver Faction would be counted.
If City Lord Bryan died, then they won’t get anything. Spoken evidence wouldn’t be taken seriously.
Just then, I heard the sound of knocking at the door. I collected my thoughts. I stood up and went to the door to open it.
Creak!
I opened the door and saw the members. Four of them were standing outside. Then we entered the room and sat down on the sofa.
Otto, Patrick, Hank, and old man Rock were looking at each other. Their faces showed disappointment. Clearly, they had failed to collect intel in the city.
"Master, we didn’t find anything related to enemy forces. It appears that they didn’t target the city," Otto said.
He had used his magic power to gather information. But it was not important information. It was all gossip spread by the locals.
"At first we thought the gathering of the officials was related to some incident. But Otto found out that City Lord Bryan left the city for some reason."
"The officials have gathered to maintain law and order. For the time being, they want to keep the news a secret," Patrick said.
Hearing that, I was not surprised. With Otto’s magic ability, he must have overheard the officials’ private conversations.
Then I turned toward Hank and old man Rock.
Hank sighed before saying, "I followed Elder Rock. We went to those shady areas to check. But we found nothing."
"The city holds no value. The evil force may not have infiltrated here," Rock said.
Hearing that, I nodded my head. Still, I didn’t want to tell them about City Lord Bryan. If they knew I had somehow captured City Lord Bryan, they wouldn’t feel any sense of responsibility. They might just rely on me.
"Alright, let’s leave the city today. We will go to a medium-sized city next. We will have more areas to cover," I said to them.
Hearing that, everyone agreed. Darkwood City is a small city. The forces here are not that strong. Any one of them could cause problems for them.
Later, Zero puppet returned to the room.
Meanwhile,
There was a big shade tree next to the City Lord’s office. On top of a tree branch, a black crow was standing.
It had red eyes. It looked at the City Lord’s office before flying toward the city gate.
When it reached the city gate, it landed on the branch of a nearby tree. The bird then watched the people coming into and going out of the city.
An hour later,
We left the hotel. We used a cab service to reach the main gate. The guards and officials there looked scared upon seeing me.
I had knocked down one of their colleagues earlier. I didn’t know whether he was alive or not. Out of curiosity, I walked up to the guards and inquired about the middle-aged man.
"He is dead," a guard replied.
Hearing that, my eyes gleamed with a twinkle.
"After giving him treatment, we left him alone in the medical room. But when we came to check on him later, we found he was dead," the guard said.
I didn’t ask anything else. I took the members and was about to leave the city. Suddenly, my mind was filled with system notifications.
[Ding! Someone is observing this place.]
[Ding! The host is advised to leave the city ASAP.]
I felt a big jolt in my heart. I didn’t turn around. My worst assumptions had come true. The city was under the surveillance of the evil force.
They must have noticed the disappearance of City Lord Bryan. After exiting the city, I didn’t bring the raven aircraft out immediately.
I insisted that the others follow me. I leaped into mid-air and began the journey using my flight ability.
The members were confused, but they didn’t ask any questions.
On the other hand, the crow saw the powerful wizards leaving the city. It didn’t continue to stay there for long; it left the place shortly after.
Time passed.
After crossing a couple of miles, I brought the raven aircraft out and we began to travel in it. The members were silent in the cabin.
They didn’t know why their Master had taken out the raven aircraft just now. He could have taken it out back at the city.
I noticed the unease of the members. After putting the cabin into autopilot mode, I turned on the stealth mode as well.
The coordinates for the next big city were on the map, but I selected a medium-sized city instead. After setting the coordinates, I entered the main cabin area.
The members were taken aback. I sat down on an empty seat facing them. My gaze swept across the four of them.
"We thought no one in the city was related to the new hostile force. But I felt someone observing us as we exited through the gate," I said to them.
Gasp!
Hank gasped in surprise. The expressions of Otto and Patrick changed. Even old man Rock was taken aback. They knew there was no reason for the Master to lie to them.
"We are underestimating them. They have a better surveillance strategy. We spent time in the city, but they didn’t act even once. No wonder the Mage Union mobilized all of the Magic Towers," I said to them.
