Chapter 1999: Part 1: Team Frank
Chapter 1999: Part 1: Team Frank
Nova City
I returned to the hotel after some exploration. I didn’t find anything. The system didn’t find any signs of Magic Lords or Forbidden Wizards either.
Lying on the bed, I looked at the ceiling fan. My mind was on something else. Nova City appeared to be fine on the surface.
But I didn’t know why I thought it was far from simple. There were no Magic Lords or Forbidden Wizards in the city.
I’m sure the families here might have a Magic Lord as a backer or ancestor. So, they must have left the city before their arrival.
I wondered what the reason could be. I believed things would add up when the others returned from the mission.
Knock!
Then I heard the sound of knocking at the door. Hearing that, my thoughts were disturbed. I got out of bed and left my room first.
I didn’t expect the members to return this early. After reaching the door, I opened it. I saw the hotel staff.
Fortunately, I was yet to remove my mask.
"Appraiser Frank, we got a request from the prominent families in the city wanting to meet you," the staff said in a solemn tone.
Hearing that, I was stunned. It took me a few seconds to realize that my other identity had been exposed.
"Who told you about me?" I asked back.
The staff was taken aback. Then he recalled the person hadn’t shown an ID while checking in. He had simply said "Magic City."
He understood that the person wanted to hide his identity.
He then said, "Mister Frank, your identity was seen through by various forces here. I don’t know how they found out."
Hearing that, I raised my eyebrows. Then I thought of something. They must be customers who had visited the appraisal shop.
"Thanks for informing me. But I have just come here to stop by. I will be leaving the city soon. So you can reject their calls," I said to the staff.
"Alright," the staff said.
He understood that the person in front of him was a big shot as well. The staff then left the place. I stood at the entrance.
"If these people are thinking that I’m Appraiser Frank, maybe I could use this opportunity to my favor," I mumbled under my breath.
But before that, I will have to wait and hear what the others have done. The zero puppet got a breakthrough by identifying City Lord Bryan.
I don’t know whether the City Lord here is good or bad. I shook my head before closing the door. Then I went to the bed to lie down.
There is no need for urgency. As long as I’m doing enough, it will be good for the faction. I don’t want the whole target on my back.
If I started doing too well, it would cause people to notice something. It would raise a lot of eyebrows.
People would wonder how I am able to do it without family support and resources. So, I have decided to be as low-key as possible.
Meanwhile
Inside the City Lord’s office, the zero puppet continued to wait. But no one entered the room. The zero puppet figured out that, apparently, the City Lord was not in the city.
Yet, it didn’t want to leave the place. It decided to wait until morning. It didn’t want to go back without collecting some evidence.
Outside
Otto and Patrick were exploring the street shops. They had failed to collect intel back in Darkwood City. They wanted to succeed here.
They too believed that these outside cities were easy targets for the enemies. The city is not under the direct monitoring of Magic City.
So, anyone can come and go. Not long ago, Otto had found out that they were being followed. At first, he noticed one person who looked like a local.
As time passed, he came across more than four warriors. Each of them was observing them from a different place. They didn’t know about it.
But Otto, with his listening power, understood everything. He didn’t tell Patrick. But Patrick, too, felt they were being followed.
Decades of experience gave him discerning eyes to spot people. Both of them exchanged glances.
"Should we capture at least one of them?" Patrick said.
Because they hadn’t collected any information so far.
"I think we can capture them. Master has revealed the identity of the Magic City. We can use this identity," Otto said after some contemplation.
Both of them then smiled suddenly. They were quite worried earlier. Now they could start doing something.
The spies all of a sudden felt uneasy. They were exposed right now.
Similarly, Hank and Old Man Rock were being followed by people as well. This time, the duo acted faster than Otto and Patrick.
Old Man Rock captured a person. He was a middle-aged man who was following them. Old Man Rock used his experience to interrogate the person.
The person was terrified. He didn’t expect Old Man Rock to be a real Magic Lord. He had just followed the Family Head’s orders.
Under the pressure of the Magic Lord, the middle-aged man broke his silence. He confessed that they recognized the group as Appraiser Frank and his team.
After learning that, the local families were thrilled. Some of them had visited Crystal City before. So, they didn’t want to miss this opportunity.
"So you were sent to find out about our hotel?" Old Man Rock asked.
"Yes," the middle-aged man replied.
Old Man Rock looked into the eyes and face of the person. He found that the person was telling the truth.
These families misunderstood the identity of the Master. But he was not going to expose it. Hank, who was standing by, understood it as well.
He picked up a device and made a call to the Master. The call connected. Hank then explained the situation.
He heard some instructions before ending the call.
"Master wanted us to spare the person. The news has already spread. The hotel staff has started receiving calls," Hank said.
Old Man Rock understood. He then spared the middle-aged man. The person fled from the place. He didn’t dare to stay here any longer.
"Let’s go back to the hotel," Rock said.
Hank nodded his head.
