Chapter Ten: Professor, You Don’t Understand Him at All
Vesey slept until noon the next day.
After washing up, Colma brought her lunch and delivered a message from Snape.
"Professor Snape said that after you finish eating, I should take you to his office. He needs to take you to Diagon Alley to buy some things."
Vesey nodded.
Then she lowered her head and ate with all her might.
She had really been hungry during her time at the orphanage.
The matron never let her eat enough, always afraid that she would gain weight after every meal.
Now, she could eat as much as she wanted here.
Unfortunately, the original owner’s stomach was too small. Even when she tried her best, she could only manage half a steak before becoming full.
She sighed, put down her knife and fork, and went to Snape’s office with Colma.
Snape had already been waiting for her. When he saw her enter, a faint smile appeared on his face.
"Let’s go. We have a lot to buy today, so don’t waste any time."
Easy for you to say.
What parent who’s worried about wasting time would let their child sleep until noon?
Unless you’re a completely irresponsible parent.
Of course, Vesey pretended not to know anything and immediately nodded to show that she wouldn’t waste time.
She obediently held out her hand toward Snape.
Snape smiled.
But he remembered what Vesey had told Antoya about not being used to people touching her, so he tried not to hold her hand.
Instead, he placed a hand on her shoulder.
With a squeezing sensation, Vesey and Snape appeared on a London street.
"Look. This is the entrance to Diagon Alley. From now on..."
Snape paused.
"Forget it. Whenever you want to come here, just tell me and I’ll bring you. There are bad people in Diagon Alley, and someone could easily take advantage of a child like you who has only just entered the magical world!"
Vesey almost laughed.
If Harry heard you say that, he’d probably cry.
But she couldn’t possibly let Snape know that she already knew the story.
So she simply nodded obediently and moved a little closer to him.
Snape smiled.
He took Vesey into the Leaky Cauldron.
The innkeeper, Tom, greeted him warmly.
"Professor Snape, are you bringing a student to Diagon Alley to buy some things?"
Snape looked at Vesey and said proudly, "She’s Lily... Harry Potter’s twin sister. I’m here to take her shopping!"
Tom: "...?"
Why are you telling me this?
What does her name have to do with me?
Wait...
What’s her name?
"She is Harry Potter’s twin sister? How come I’ve never heard of her before?"
Tom finally took a good look at Vesey.
"I still remember Lily Evans. She looks so much like Lily, with that red hair and those green eyes. She really is..."
He spoke with excitement and disbelief.
Snape snorted.
The only good thing James Potter ever did in his life was father Vesey.
As for how he should explain Vesey’s existence, Dumbledore had already given him an answer.
He simply told Tom that Vesey had been weak and sickly since birth and had been receiving treatment in a care facility. They had only brought her out when she was old enough to attend school.
Tom believed Snape’s explanation.
He looked at Vesey in amazement.
"This child is going to be an absolutely stunning beauty when she grows up!"
Snape puffed out his chest.
Naturally.
How could Lily’s daughter not be beautiful?
But then he became angry again.
Who is this child going to end up with in the future?
Although the diary had said that Vesey would look for a girl, that was because she had developed a hatred of men after suffering so much.
But now that she hadn’t experienced those things yet, what if some bastard managed to take her away?
The thought of Vesey someday returning with a man and saying, "Professor, you don’t understand him at all!"
made Snape want to draw his wand and kill someone.
What kind of nightmare is this?
He pursed his lips and mentally cursed Vesey’s future suitor a thousand times before saying goodbye to Tom with a cold expression.
Tom stared at his retreating back in shock.
He couldn’t understand why the man who had looked so happy just moments ago had suddenly become so grim.
After leaving the Leaky Cauldron, Snape let out a sullen sigh.
He took Vesey to the very back of the inn.
There was only a deep well and a brick wall.
Seeing Vesey staring at the well, he patiently reminded her, "Stay away from there. Don’t fall in."
Vesey nodded and stepped back.
Snape took out his wand with satisfaction.
"Look here!"
He pointed his wand at one of the bricks in the wall and tapped it.
"See? It’s right here. The next time you come, just tap this brick with your wand and you can enter. It’s simple and easy to remember. Do you remember it?"
Vesey shook her head.
"I don’t remember."
She had only seen him count out several bricks before suddenly pointing at one of them. How was she supposed to remember which one it was?
Of course, she wore a guilty expression.
"I’m sorry..."
Snape immediately changed his tone.
"It’s all right if you can’t remember. I explained it too quickly. I’ll teach you again when we come back. And if you still can’t remember, that’s fine. I’ll bring you next time."
At that moment, the wall split open, revealing a passage large enough for a person to walk through.
"It’s just through here."
Snape took Vesey through the opening.
Then he pulled a list from his pocket.
"Cauldron. Let’s buy a cauldron first."
He took Vesey to a cauldron shop and bought her several cauldrons.
"Get some extra ones. When you’re brewing potions and blow one up, you can just replace it with another!"
But then he began worrying again.
What if Vesey blew up a cauldron and hurt herself?
He would definitely have to stay by her side when the time came.
This poor child has to learn such a dangerous subject!
Snape, who was worrying himself sick, had completely forgotten that he regularly called students who blew up their cauldrons idiots.
He had never shown the slightest sympathy toward students covered in injuries, believing that they deserved it.
Yet now he suddenly thought Potions was a dangerous subject.
It was the ultimate double standard.
"Don’t be afraid. I’ll help you brew the potions when the time comes."
Even if Lily’s daughter couldn’t do anything, he would help her!
The shopkeeper who sold them the cauldron stood there dumbfounded as he watched the man leave—the same man reputed to be the strictest Potions professor at Hogwarts.
Merlin!
Rumors really are frightening.
Such a gentle professor, and everyone calls him a devil?
