Chapter 104 — Conversation in the School Clinic
When Vesey opened her eyes again, she found that the sky outside was slightly gloomy, and there was no one in the hospital wing.
Had she really slept until everyone had gone home?
But thinking about it, that shouldn’t be the case.
After all, when she drank Snape’s potion, she had checked it carefully and confirmed that it would only make her sleep for a few days, so she had drunk it without worry.
As for the damage Voldemort had supposedly inflicted on her...
There had been almost none.
Her body was perfectly fine. Unless she actually died, there was no way she could really be injured. Everything afterward had simply been the result of spending Energy Points to disguise her condition.
Not only was she fine, she even felt like yawning.
Vesey was sighing when she heard the door open.
Dumbledore had arrived.
Seeing that Vesey was awake, he smiled happily.
"Child, luckily you’re awake now. Otherwise, you might not have been able to attend the end-of-semester feast."
Vesey opened her eyes wide, pretending to be shocked.
"The end-of-semester feast? How long have I been asleep?"
"Five days, child. You’ve been sleeping for five whole days!"
Dumbledore said with a smile.
Vesey appeared stunned. She stared blankly at Dumbledore.
Dumbledore let her stare without urging her. He even had time to pick up a Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Bean that had been left on the table beside Vesey.
Vesey pretended not to notice, as though she were deep in thought.
Suddenly, she sat upright and shouted, "Brother! Brother! Headmaster, my brother is still here..."
Dumbledore laughed.
He interrupted Vesey.
"Calm down, child. Harry is fine. He woke up a day ago and stayed here with you for an entire day. He just left."
Vesey breathed a sigh of relief.
She asked again, "What about Hermione and Ron? How are they?"
"They’re both doing very well, child. Compared to you, they’re both perfectly fine. Voldemort’s final attack caused you very serious injuries. If Severus hadn’t given you the potion in time, you would already be dead."
Vesey opened her mouth.
She stared blankly at Dumbledore, as if she had no idea what he was talking about.
Seeing her expression, Dumbledore quickly slapped his forehead.
"Oh, that’s what happens when people get old. We often forget to explain things clearly.
"It’s like this. You should remember that after you fought the White Queen, you fainted..."
Vesey looked embarrassed.
"I’m so useless. If I were stronger, I could have gone after Voldemort with my brother and the others!"
[Ding, Energy Points +1]
The system notification sounded.
Vesey glanced at it and almost failed to keep the expression off her face.
She had been pretending to be so good, yet Dumbledore had only given her a single Energy Point.
Was he giving alms to a beggar?
She knew that Dumbledore, this old fox, was not easy to deal with.
Still, she complained inwardly.
Of course, the expression on her face continued to show that she wanted to fight Voldemort herself.
Dumbledore looked at her with emotion.
"Oh, child, you’re still very young!"
"I’m not young anymore! I’m almost twelve!"
She shouted loudly.
[Ding, Energy Points +1]
Dumbledore laughed.
He shook his head and said happily, "That’s right. Growing up will bring you more knowledge and abilities."
Vesey looked at him with bright eyes.
Dumbledore shook his head and smiled bitterly.
"The tragedy happened the moment Harry defeated Voldemort. Voldemort wanted revenge, so he unleashed his strongest attack against you and nearly killed you.
"Vesey, I don’t want to hide this from you. Severus almost went berserk at the time. Do you know how terrifying he was?"
Vesey looked embarrassed.
"It’s all my fault. I should have..."
Dumbledore rarely showed such a guilty expression.
"It isn’t your fault. No one expected Voldemort to do something like this to you. But I’m very glad that you survived!"
Vesey lowered her head, pretending to be embarrassed.
Then she raised her head again and asked, "Headmaster, who wanted to steal the Philosopher’s Stone? Can you tell me?"
Dumbledore sighed softly.
"It was Quirrell. During the summer holiday, he went to the forests of Albania. There, he encountered the weakened Voldemort and became his servant."
Vesey’s mood fell.
"Is... is he all right now?"
"He died."
Vesey’s eyes gradually turned red.
Dumbledore asked warily, "Vesey, are you sympathizing with him?"
Vesey looked up at him.
She nodded without hiding it.
"Yes, a little. I observed Professor Quirrell this year. He really was timid, and he didn’t seem to have much ambition.
"Especially that time when I saw Professor Quirrell crying. My brother saw him too. If he hadn’t met Voldemort, he might have simply remained an ordinary professor."
Dumbledore fell silent.
After a long time, he asked softly, "Are you angry?"
Vesey nodded again.
Her voice gradually grew louder.
"I’m very angry. I could even say that I hate him. Voldemort ruined another person’s life. If he hadn’t met Voldemort, Professor Quirrell would never have gone down that path!"
[Ding, Energy Points +10]
Vesey let out a breath.
She knew that as long as she cursed Voldemort, Dumbledore would make her more emotional.
It felt great.
For the first time, Dumbledore looked at Vesey so seriously.
Her green eyes were actually different from Harry’s.
Vesey’s eyes seemed stronger and more upright.
Even her fiery red hair wasn’t quite like Lily’s. Hers was more dazzling, carrying a unique charm of its own—a charm that made it difficult to look away once someone fell in love with it.
He thought that perhaps Severus would gradually see less and less of Lily when he looked at Vesey.
Severus should eventually understand that Vesey was Vesey, and Lily was Lily.
He rubbed Vesey’s head and sighed softly.
"You’re right. Voldemort destroyed another person’s life.
"Vesey, you’ve taught an old man a lesson. I always believed that Quirrell simply couldn’t resist temptation and willingly chose this path.
"But you made me realize something. If Voldemort had never tempted him, perhaps Quirrell would have remained the good student he once was and eventually become a professor at Hogwarts.
"And all of that was destroyed by Voldemort.
"In fact, there are many people whose lives were ruined by Voldemort. Your parents, Harry’s parents, many Aurors, kind and righteous people, Muggles...
"So, Vesey, from now on I have to tell you this: never be soft-hearted when facing him. He is the original sin that brought this world to where it is today.
"Voldemort is very good at deceiving people. He hasn’t yet thought of using you to achieve his goals. And even if he does want to use you, he may try to approach you through other means rather than through your emotions.
"Therefore, if one day Voldemort tries to play on your emotions, you must remember how many people he has killed.
"He is an unforgivable villain. Even if his own life was miserable, please promise me that you will never forget this."
Vesey looked into Dumbledore’s eyes and nodded firmly.
