Chapter 110 — Mission Completed
Vesey arrived at the Riddle House with the vampire wizards.
It was dark and damp.
After using Energy Points to confirm that Voldemort wasn’t there, Vesey unleashed her Obscurus.
Almost instantly, the vampire wizards were overwhelmed and fell to the ground.
Many of them were barely alive.
Vesey didn’t kill them outright. She simply waited for them to die on their own.
After a while, she heard the system prompt.
[Ding! Congratulations, Host, on completing Merlin’s Trial. Charm +10, Dark Arts Talent +100, Alchemy Talent +100.]
Vesey was quite satisfied.
After all, these vampire wizards hadn’t cost her anything. They had even helped her gain several thugs and tens of thousands of Energy Points.
It was a great harvest.
She accepted the rewards and was just about to get up when she heard footsteps approaching.
She immediately used Energy Points to heal the vampire wizards slightly. At the very least, they could stand and use a little magic.
Then she fabricated numerous injuries on herself, closed her eyes, and lay motionless on the ground.
But after thinking about it, she unfastened her robes a little further.
It would make it look as though she had already fought desperately before finally being overwhelmed.
Almost as soon as Vesey lay down, she saw colorful flashes of light erupting around her.
She nearly jumped in fright.
Why had they started fighting right here?
Couldn’t they fight somewhere farther away?
What if one of those spells hit her?
Just as she couldn’t help opening her eyes in panic, she happened to see Dumbledore stride into the room.
Her expression stiffened slightly.
For a moment, she thought Dumbledore had seen through her act.
But she was overthinking it.
Dumbledore had clearly misunderstood the situation.
Seeing her like this, and noticing the stiff expression on her face, his lips trembled several times.
Finally, he removed his robes and wrapped them around her.
"It’s all right. It’s all right!"
Vesey heard his deep voice. After thinking for a moment, she opened her mouth and said:
"I. I.. Its. It’s all right.i. .. I’m .. I’m fine. They .. they ha haven’t had tim time to do anything yet..."
[Ding! Energy Points +10.]
Vesey was astonished.
This was the first time she had received such a large amount of Energy Points from Dumbledore without even having to insult Voldemort.
Her heart stirred.
Then she controlled one of the vampire wizards. During the battle, he suddenly turned his head and sneered:
"The Savior’s sister... She certainly has an extraordinary taste..."
Before he could finish speaking, a red beam struck him.
He was blasted into the air before crashing heavily onto the ground.
It was Snape.
His eyes were filled with murderous intent.
The wand in his hand moved almost like a windmill as he attacked. In just one or two spells, Snape nearly finished off one of the already weakened vampire wizards.
Finally, he stepped over the face of a vampire wizard and looked at Vesey lying on the ground through Dumbledore’s body.
His lips trembled several times, as though he wanted to say something.
But he said nothing.
Instead, he pulled a large number of potions from his robes and made Vesey drink them one after another.
After drinking one or two bottles, Vesey allowed herself to drift into sleep.
She forced herself to stay awake and whispered softly:
"Professor, I’m fine. Don’t be afraid..."
Before she could finish, she let herself sink into darkness.
Almost as soon as Snape finished giving Vesey the potions, Fudge arrived.
He looked at the vampire wizards lying all over the ground, a delighted smile spreading across his face.
"It seems the Aurors have accomplished something big again. The Daily Prophet won’t be calling us useless anymore, will it?"
he said with a laugh.
Then he saw Dumbledore.
And he saw Snape standing beside Dumbledore.
The smile on his fat face instantly turned to anger, then back to a smile.
It was almost like watching a color palette change.
"Albus, why are you here? I think you’re still under suspicion. Why don’t you submit yourself to an investigation?"
Dumbledore turned and looked at Fudge.
"Fudge, if you look at the facts carefully, you’ll know that from the moment I arrived until now, I haven’t done anything suspicious. Vesey is my student. How could I simply leave her here?"
"Isn’t that practically an admission?"
Fudge blurted out.
Then, as if realizing that he had said something inappropriate, he patted his own mouth.
"Ah, how could I say something like that to Dumbledore? This mouth of mine really deserves a slap!"
He smiled awkwardly.
Dumbledore merely looked at him coldly.
After a moment, Fudge finally dropped his smile in frustration.
"All right, all right. Now that we’ve found Miss Potter, shouldn’t we hand her over to the Ministry?"
Fudge asked.
"She is injured. She needs—"
Snape shouted angrily.
But Fudge interrupted him.
"Oh, I’m sorry, Professor Snape. I understand that you’re worried about your student, but you’re not a Healer at St. Mungo’s, are you?
"This child needs to be taken to St. Mungo’s for treatment, and she must not come into contact with any suspicious person until she wakes up!"
He gave Dumbledore a wary look.
Clearly, he still believed that Dumbledore and Vesey had been plotting something significant together—something that could threaten his position.
So he added:
"The day after she wakes up, we can arrange a formal hearing. I believe everyone will want to uncover the truth behind this matter, won’t they?"
Fudge laughed.
Snape glared at him.
But Fudge didn’t notice. His eyes remained fixed on Dumbledore.
After Dumbledore looked at him coldly for a moment, Fudge spoke with an embarrassed expression:
"Sorry. Saying this makes it sound as though Miss Potter is a criminal. But I believe in Miss Potter’s innocence. Let’s just see whether she... whether she has been tainted... Ah!"
Fudge was slapped hard across the face by Snape.
He stared at Snape in disbelief.
He desperately wanted to have Snape arrested, but he still knew Snape’s standing in the wizarding world.
After swallowing his anger and muttering a few harsh words, Fudge watched as a Healer from St. Mungo’s took Vesey away.
Snape left as well.
Fudge gave a subtle signal, and the Aurors followed Snape, clearly worried that he might take Vesey away.
Finally, only Fudge and Dumbledore remained.
Fudge looked at Dumbledore with a smug smile.
"Albus, I’m sure you’re happy that your student has returned safely. Now she only needs to prove her innocence.
"But I still don’t understand. Why did these people want to capture her? Do you think the people behind this know some people’s secrets?"
Dumbledore looked at him calmly.
"Whose secrets are you talking about?"
"You don’t know?"
Fudge asked rhetorically.
Dumbledore remained composed.
"Cornelius, if you’re referring to me, then provide evidence. Otherwise, don’t stand here making insinuations.
"And if you want to know why these people captured Vesey, interrogate them instead of standing here making strange accusations at me."
Fudge looked at him warily.
"Of course I’ll interrogate them, Dumbledore. You won’t be angry, will you? You won’t be angry that I’m interrogating them?"
Dumbledore smiled.
"Cornelius, you should know that I don’t have much of an opinion of you at the moment.
"But that may not always be the case."
Fudge’s face went pale.
He finally snorted, turned around, and left.
