Chapter Fifteen: Does Harry Look Like Lily Too?
Late at night.
Dumbledore’s office.
"You mean this was the wand that almost drained all of Vesey’s magic and turned her into a Squib?"
Dumbledore examined Vesey’s wand with interest.
Snape nodded grimly.
"Destroy this wand!"
he said unhappily.
Dumbledore shook his head.
"No, no, no, Severus. This is a powerful wand, and I don’t think anyone would want to destroy it.
"Besides, I’ve already confirmed that this wand has completely bonded with Vesey. If you destroy it, little Vesey won’t have a wand to use for the rest of her life."
Dumbledore said this with a smile.
Snape looked at him with a livid expression.
"Ollivander said that Vesey’s ribs could also be used..."
Dumbledore waved his hand.
"That’s useless. That was only an option before Vesey became bound to this wand. Now, even a wand made from her blood and ribs wouldn’t be more suitable for her than this one."
"But why?"
Snape was still confused.
Dumbledore shook his head.
"A bond is a bond. This wand is too deeply connected to Vesey—deeper than her physical body...
"What it is bound to is her soul."
Snape seemed to lose all his strength.
He asked in a trembling voice:
"In other words, Lily’s child has to use this wand every day, knowing that it could absorb all her magic at any moment, causing her to become a Squib—or even die?"
Dumbledore looked deeply at him.
After a long silence, he gently nodded.
Snape suddenly stood up.
He clenched his fists.
"I want to take this child away. This child may not be a wizard, or she may not be..."
Dumbledore looked at him sympathetically.
"Severus, I hope you’ll be more rational. It was that thing that dragged this child into the wizarding world in the first place. It’s inevitable.
"Even if I agreed to let you take her away, how would you protect her? If more people learned about that thing in the future, there would never be peace around Vesey.
"You don’t want to know what Voldemort would do if he discovered Vesey’s existence."
Snape’s expression froze.
"You’re Dumbledore. You must have a way..."
"Calm down, Severus. I am Dumbledore, but don’t forget that during that war, I was powerless enough that I didn’t even know what to do.
"All we could do was protect Hogwarts and preserve a place where the children could live."
Dumbledore said dejectedly.
He could kill Voldemort.
But then what?
If none of Voldemort’s Horcruxes had been found, what good would killing him do?
Voldemort could still be resurrected with the help of his Death Eaters. And every time he returned, he would become even more powerful.
Dumbledore would never do something that simply benefited his enemy.
What he needed was a breakthrough—a chance to make Voldemort disappear completely.
That opportunity soon came.
When Voldemort went after Harry, he failed.
Because he wasn’t facing Dumbledore, Voldemort had been arrogant enough not to make sufficient preparations.
When something happened to him, the Death Eaters fell into chaos.
Dumbledore took advantage of that opportunity and eliminated all the Death Eaters, bringing ten years of peace to the wizarding world.
Then the diary appeared.
The moment Dumbledore saw the diary, he knew that what was coming would come sooner or later.
Vesey’s appearance had been a complete surprise to him.
There had even been a moment when he wanted to kill Vesey.
But he couldn’t do it.
All he could do was force himself to believe what was written in the diary.
To believe that Vesey would become the savior of the wizarding world.
To believe that the future would unfold exactly as the diary described.
He sighed deeply.
"Severus, I’m old. The future belongs to the young. What we need to do is guide them and watch over them."
Snape remained silent for a moment.
Finally, he snorted.
"Then how do we guarantee Vesey’s safety?"
Lily had gone through so much to give birth to Vesey.
He had to protect her.
Dumbledore sighed.
"We can’t guarantee it, Severus. None of us can guarantee that anyone will be safe in the future. Even I may die someday, let alone a child."
Seeing that Snape seemed about to say something, Dumbledore laughed again.
"Of course, if your concern is how to keep that child safe while she has that wand, that’s actually quite simple."
Snape’s eyes immediately lit up.
"Tell me!"
"Severus, you’re too impatient..."
Dumbledore looked at him helplessly.
It had been a long time since he had seen Severus this anxious, and he wasn’t sure whether it was a good thing or a bad one.
"This wand is now bound to Vesey’s soul, and it is controlled by her. In other words, as long as the child doesn’t deliberately try to do things she currently can’t do, nothing will happen to her.
"In fact, the reason she got into trouble this time was probably because she wanted to repair the entire wand shop. The wand fulfilled her desire, but her magical power wasn’t sufficient to support it."
Dumbledore said with a smile.
Snape breathed a sigh of relief.
"Vesey is a good girl. She only wanted to help. I’ll tell her to be more careful in the future!"
Dumbledore looked at his expression and hesitated before saying:
"You can’t keep watching Vesey every moment. School is about to start, and Harry will be coming to Hogwarts as well. You need to take good care of him too.
"Whether it’s the prophecy or that thing, both tell us that Harry will ultimately be the one who defeats Voldemort."
Snape frowned.
"Is Harry like Lily too?"
Dumbledore paused.
He squeezed the words out slowly.
"He has a pair of green eyes. They’re especially similar to Lily’s..."
Before he could finish, Snape had already turned around and walked out without looking back.
"All right, Dumbledore. I have to take the nutritional potion to Vesey. I don’t want to hear you talking about Potter here!"
