Chapter Thirty-Five: You Can’t Do That!

Vesey had no idea that the students were privately discussing her.

If she had known, she would definitely have been disgusted.

These students didn’t seem to have come to Hogwarts to study. They seemed to have come here to gossip.

They have way too much free time.

Vesey sincerely hoped Professor McGonagall would give them mountains of homework and force them to keep their mouths shut.

Fortunately, she knew nothing about it, so she didn’t do anything that crazy.

She followed Cassandra and the others into the Great Hall.

Breakfast wasn’t as lavish as dinner the previous night, but there was more than enough to fill their stomachs.

Besides, the house-elves were excellent cooks, so Vesey certainly didn’t find the food difficult to eat.

She happily filled her stomach before following Cassandra to Transfiguration.

Cassandra had apparently familiarized herself with Hogwarts the previous night. She almost didn’t take the group the wrong way and led them straight to the Transfiguration classroom.

When they arrived, there was no one inside.

Except for a tabby cat sitting on the teacher’s desk, staring seriously at them.

The shape of its eyes still resembled the glasses Professor McGonagall normally wore.

Vesey really wanted to go over and pet the Cat Professor, but after hesitating, she decided against it.

She didn’t want Professor McGonagall to think she was impolite.

Perhaps Vesey’s gaze was simply too intense, because it caught Malfoy’s attention.

He immediately swaggered over to the tabby cat, poked its head, and said proudly,

"Look, Miss Potter seems to like this ugly little cat. How about I throw it out the window?"

With that, he reached out to grab the cat.

Vesey immediately rushed in front of the tabby cat.

She scooped it into her arms, taking the opportunity to rub its fur several times, then glared at Malfoy as though she were genuinely angry.

"You’re so mean! Why would you hurt a cat just because you have a grudge against me? It’s just a cute little kitten!"

Malfoy snorted.

He walked around Vesey and suddenly reached out again, trying to grab the cat.

Vesey pretended to be frightened and quickly dodged away.

Her deliberately flustered appearance made Malfoy laugh.

"Not to mention, Potter, you look just like your stupid brother..."

He sneered.

Vesey felt her fist tighten.

This guy really is asking for a beating.

Vesey decided to grant his wish.

She carefully set Professor McGonagall aside, pulled out her wand, pointed it at Malfoy, and shouted,

"Scourgify!"

A powerful stream of water shot into Malfoy’s mouth and swirled around inside it.

"Who told you to insult my brother? My brother isn’t stupid! You’re the bad guy!"

Vesey said angrily.

But when she noticed that several of Malfoy’s teeth seemed to have been knocked loose, she immediately looked worried.

She lowered her head and quickly flipped through her textbook.

"What spell undoes this curse...?"

"Miss Potter, the way to stop a spell is to stop casting it in the first place!"

Professor McGonagall’s voice suddenly rang out.

The tabby cat transformed back into a human.

She pointed her wand at Malfoy, and the water in his mouth instantly disappeared.

Vesey secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she smiled.

She seemed about to thank Professor McGonagall, but suddenly remembered what she had just done.

Her face immediately turned pale.

"I’m sorry, Professor. Please punish me!"

She lowered her head, looking pitiful.

At least, that’s how Professor McGonagall interpreted it.

McGonagall gently rubbed Vesey’s head.

"Miss Potter, I think I understand how you feel. If someone cursed one of my relatives, I don’t know if I could control myself either."

Vesey immediately raised her head and looked at McGonagall with bright eyes.

She was obviously delighted by those words.

But she quickly shook her head and said firmly, "Professor, you should still punish me. I shouldn’t treat a classmate like this. I almost knocked his teeth out."

She glanced toward Malfoy.

Malfoy spat out a tooth.

The miserable sight almost made Vesey laugh.

However, for the sake of her persona, she desperately suppressed her laughter and spoke in a trembling voice.

"It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault. Please punish me!"

Professor McGonagall thought she was crying.

Her expression became increasingly gentle.

"Vesey, although I admit you were a little impulsive this time, I watched the entire incident. I know perfectly well that Mr. Malfoy was the one who caused the trouble first. He should bear the consequences of his actions."

Malfoy opened his mouth to protest, but Professor McGonagall gave him a stern look.

"Mr. Malfoy, even if this were an ordinary cat, you couldn’t simply throw it out of a window. That’s an appalling thing to say. How can a student even suggest something like that?

"And as for bullying Miss Potter and casually insulting a student from another House..."

McGonagall paused.

"I think twenty points from Slytherin and a detention are appropriate."

Malfoy’s face froze.

"You—you can’t!"

"No, I can. And I think that even if Professor Snape heard about this, he wouldn’t object."

McGonagall had taught Snape and the others before and knew something about his relationship with Lily.

She didn’t believe Snape would stand by and watch Vesey be bullied.

"Go back to your seat, Mr. Malfoy."

Malfoy huffed angrily and returned to his seat.

Professor McGonagall looked at Vesey, who was still trembling with her head lowered, assuming she was frightened.

"As for you, Miss Potter, I won’t deduct any points from you. Of course, I can’t award you any points either, since you did knock out Mr. Malfoy’s teeth."

Vesey finally suppressed her smile.

She raised her head and said, "Actually, I should have points deducted..."

Professor McGonagall didn’t let her finish.

She gently pushed Vesey toward her seat.

"Good girl."

Vesey immediately nodded obediently.

This made Professor McGonagall smile.

Her gaze then swept across the rest of the class.

By now, the Transfiguration classroom was almost full.

Everyone had been watching the spectacle just now, but when Professor McGonagall’s stern gaze fell upon them, they quickly lowered their heads.

"I’ll make this clear right now. Don’t cause trouble in my classroom. If any of you disobey, I will ask you to leave."

She waved her wand and transformed the lectern into a pig, then immediately changed it back.

"See? I can even turn you into..."

At that moment, the door opened.

Harry and Ron walked in, chatting and laughing.

And unfortunately for them, they had walked straight into Professor McGonagall’s line of fire.
