Chapter 4: Confiscating the Tool of the Crime
Vesey clenched her fists and gritted her teeth.
However, just as she made that expression, she suddenly remembered that the girl who made people unable to take their eyes off her was actually herself!
Well...
She used to sneak peeks at girls, but now she had become a girl herself.
Vesey, who had once been able to admire this face as much as she wanted, suddenly lost all interest in doing so.
When would she ever have a brother?
Hermione was only eleven years old right now.
Ginny was ten.
Luna was ten.
And Fleur, who was already thirteen...
She was still too far out of reach!
Vesey wiped away her bitter tears and could only comfort herself.
Even if the boys her age had something to offer, they couldn’t actually do anything at their age.
All she could do was sing loudly:
"What use do I have for this iron rod?"
That’s right.
That was it.
She definitely wasn’t jealous!
Knock, knock, knock!
Just as she was about to cry, someone knocked on the door.
Confused, Vesey went over and opened it.
It was the orphanage matron.
"There was a letter for you. It seems to be from Hogwarts. I turned it down for you!"
Vesey was speechless.
Fortunately, she had God-level Acting Skills. Otherwise, her expression would have twisted on the spot.
Good grief.
This damn old woman had not only opened her Hogwarts letter, but had even rejected it on her behalf.
That was absolutely infuriating.
If it had been an ordinary school, wouldn’t this have directly cut off her chance of ever leaving this place?
No.
Even though Hogwarts was a wizarding school, if Vesey hadn’t obtained the Diary System, this woman might have actually ruined her chance of getting away.
"Vesey, it’s not that your mother doesn’t want you to go to a school like that. I’m only thinking of what’s best for you. I’ve never even heard of this school before. Who knows what might happen if you go there?"
"You’re such a cute girl. Your mother would be heartbroken just thinking about you staying somewhere unfamiliar!"
Vesey was amused.
Everything she said sounded so sincere.
Somewhere unfamiliar.
A school whose name she’d supposedly never even heard of.
Damn it, when she opened someone else’s letter, why hadn’t she thought about whether that was immoral?
Besides, anyone who genuinely cared about a child would at least let the child visit the school and find out what it was like.
How could someone simply declare the school unreliable and then refuse to even give her the letter?
Vesey knew exactly what the matron wanted her to do, so she couldn’t help asking:
"Then what school can I go to?"
A smile immediately appeared on the matron’s face.
"Vesey, you’re in luck. Mr. Antoya, the headmaster of Smetin School, will be here in three days."
"He’ll be recruiting students with excellent academic performance. If he takes a liking to you, you can go to Smetin Public School."
Vesey really wanted to scream.
But she gave up on the idea.
When she wrote her first diary entry, she had already created a persona for herself.
Kind, innocent, obedient, well-behaved...
In short, every beautiful word could be used to describe her.
After all, if she weren’t like that, how could the future diary writer continue to remember her so fondly?
All she needed to do was maintain that persona.
So she agreed, saying that she would do her best to please that gentleman, but she sneered inwardly.
The malice in the matron’s heart was practically written all over her face.
Almost any adult could understand what was going on.
Wasn’t this just a matter of exploiting unspoken rules?
But doing something like this to such a young child was simply inhuman!
After seeing the matron off, Vesey turned around and returned to her room, where she lay down on the bed.
She had no intention of dealing with the orphanage herself for now.
Although she now possessed an Obscurus and could easily destroy this place, she believed Dumbledore and the others would take care of everything for her if she simply waited.
Since she wanted to maintain the pure and kind persona she had created, she had to preserve it at all times.
If her personality suddenly changed, the diary would naturally become less believable.
And right now, Dumbledore and the others were undoubtedly observing everything closely.
She absolutely couldn’t expose any flaws.
So Vesey began thinking about her next diary entry while waiting for Dumbledore and Snape to arrive.
---
Three days later.
Vesey was called out by the matron.
There were many other children with her.
All of them were cute and beautiful children.
"This is Mr. Antoya. Your goal today is to make him like you!"
Mr. Antoya was an elegantly dressed man, but there was nothing elegant about his eyes. His gaze repeatedly swept over the children, lingering on them like he was inspecting merchandise.
Finally, his eyes settled on Vesey.
"Who is this child?"
He pointed at Vesey.
He had never seen such a beautiful and adorable little girl before!
The matron covered her mouth and laughed.
"Vesey doesn’t have a surname yet. If Mr. Antoya likes her, you can adopt her and let her take your surname!"
Mr. Antoya smiled and nodded reservedly.
He then walked over to Vesey and reached out, attempting to touch her face.
Vesey almost struck him.
But in order to maintain her innocent and kind persona, she merely took a step back, avoiding his hand. Looking shyly at Mr. Antoya, she said:
"Sir, I’m sorry. I’m not used to this..."
Mr. Antoya shook his head.
His smile grew wider.
"It doesn’t matter. From now on, you’ll be my daughter. We have plenty of time to get to know each other, don’t we?"
Vesey shook her head bashfully.
"Could you give this opportunity to Laura? She’s still young, and she needs to be adopted even more than I do!"
A smile appeared on her face as she gently stroked the hair of the girl beside her, whose eyes were red with jealousy.
She had seen herself in the mirror earlier, and with this particular smile, she looked especially innocent and pure.
"Laura, hurry up. Show Mr. Antoya how cute you are. I’m sure he’ll like you!"
She smiled and pushed Laura forward.
The girl had been standing on tiptoe, desperately trying to get Antoya to notice her. Now Vesey was giving her the opportunity first.
Antoya looked Laura over several times.
Seeing that she was also a pretty girl, he waved his hand.
"Take them all!"
He then lowered his head and asked Vesey:
"Baby, Daddy has given you what you wanted. How are you going to repay Daddy?"
How was she going to repay him?
Would confiscating his "tool of the crime" count?
Vesey suppressed her disgust and smiled innocently at him.
Her smile was beautiful.
"Whatever you want."
Antoya’s back immediately arched.
Vesey felt so disgusted that she almost vomited.
They were both men. Who didn’t understand what the other was thinking?
Oh, how she wanted to confiscate his "tool of the crime"!
By the way, why hadn’t Dumbledore and Snape arrived yet?
If they didn’t come soon, she might really lose control!
Afraid that she might not be able to stop herself from killing someone, Vesey finally spent a small amount of Energy to check Dumbledore and Snape’s locations.
If Antoya hadn’t been so disgusting, Vesey wouldn’t have been willing to waste even a single Energy Point.
Huh?
They were right here?
Were they using the Disillusionment Charm or an Invisibility Cloak?
But it didn’t matter.
She was certain Snape would never tolerate some man touching her.
She had already seen what this body looked like.
That brilliant red hair and those emerald-green eyes...
Even Vesey herself couldn’t help staring at them.
So how could Snape, with Lily’s features right before his eyes, possibly endure watching someone lay a hand on her?
