Chapter Fifty-Seven: You Dare to Mess with My Sister? Die!
About a week later...
During breakfast, a procession of owls flew into the Great Hall.
This happened every morning. Most of them carried things sent by students’ parents, such as clothes, food, and other necessities.
Vesey had found it rather strange at first, but after seeing it so often, she had stopped paying much attention.
Today, however, something caught her eye.
She saw six owls flying in together, carrying a long, slender package.
She recognized it immediately.
This must be the broom Professor McGonagall bought for Harry.
That broom would accompany Harry until his third year, when it was destroyed by the Whomping Willow.
Vesey had always been somewhat curious about the Nimbus 2000.
Although she was reluctant to fly, she was still interested in seeing how this new broom compared with the school brooms.
But just as she was about to stand up and follow the package toward Harry, she suddenly realized that the slender package was flying toward the Slytherin table.
Vesey watched helplessly as it landed right in front of her.
Then another owl flew over.
This one was carrying a letter.
Vesey opened it subconsciously.
It was from Snape.
There was only a short note inside.
Professor McGonagall bought Potter a broom, and I thought you should have one too, so I bought one for you.
Vesey: "..."
She was extremely grateful to Snape.
But really, this isn’t necessary!
What a waste of money.
She didn’t want to fly around on a broom. She was terrified just looking down from a height!
Vesey sighed and wanted Snape to take the broom back.
But after hesitating for a moment, she decided to forget it.
After all, even if she returned it, Snape probably wouldn’t accept it back.
Why not just keep it?
Maybe one day she’d overcome her fear of heights.
She thought helplessly before noticing another six owls carrying slender packages.
This time, the packages landed directly on the Gryffindor table.
Vesey then saw Harry receive a letter as well.
He stood up in surprise.
Not long afterward, Harry and Ron came running over excitedly.
"Vesey, come on! We’re going to show you something good!"
Vesey’s mouth twitched.
"Brother, I have something good to show you too!"
She picked up the package and walked out with Harry and Ron.
"It’s a broomstick!"
Harry handed Professor McGonagall’s letter to Vesey.
Vesey smiled and showed Harry her own broomstick.
"Professor Snape bought me one too. Look, brother! I keep telling you Professor Snape is really good to me!"
Harry’s smile froze.
"What? Snape bought it?"
He nervously grabbed the broom from Vesey’s hands.
"No. I have to let Professor McGonagall inspect it before I give it back to you. It’s really strange. Snape bought you a broomstick? The more I think about it, the more unbelievable it is!"
Harry said incredulously.
He was now convinced that there had to be some kind of curse or poison hidden inside the broom.
Snape must be trying to kill Vesey.
Wait.
He suddenly thought of something.
"I know!"
He looked at Vesey.
"Snape must know you’re afraid of heights. He bought you a broom just so you’d fly into the sky and fall! He’s really evil!"
"Of course, he could also be trying to make fun of you, saying you’re afraid of heights and don’t even dare to ride a broom!"
Vesey: "..."
Oh, come on.
Harry, it’s a shame you don’t have the talent to write novels.
"Brother, why can’t you believe that Professor Snape really likes me?"
Vesey said helplessly.
Harry burst out laughing.
"Vesey, you don’t understand. You should stay this innocent! Your brother will protect you!"
Vesey: "..."
Fine.
Whatever you say.
She sighed.
"What did you get?"
A voice came from behind Vesey.
It passed straight by her and reached Harry.
Someone snatched the broomstick package from Harry’s hands and tore it open.
Malfoy.
A look of envy and contempt immediately appeared on his face.
"I didn’t expect it, Potter. You’re actually doing pretty well!"
He tossed the broom back into Harry’s arms.
Harry was stunned.
He had studied brooms before, but he had never seen one quite like this.
The entire broom was a soft pink.
Every branch was carefully polished, and even the cushion was a beautiful pink.
It looked as though whoever made it had gone out of their way to ensure that the person riding it would be comfortable.
Harry looked at Vesey.
Vesey immediately took a large step backward.
No!
Tell Snape to take it back!
I can’t ride this thing! I really can’t!
"Perhaps Professor Snape really does like Vesey..."
Harry said dreamily.
After all, a broom like this—with a specific color and a specially designed cushion—would have to be custom-made.
Harry could hardly imagine Snape walking into a broom shop with his usual gloomy expression and telling the shopkeeper,
"I’d like something pink. Something soft and pretty."
Just imagining Snape doing that made Harry’s head hurt.
Only then did Malfoy realize that the broom was actually meant for Vesey.
He had also seen the long package being delivered to her earlier.
Thinking about Vesey riding such a broom, his face suddenly turned red.
He stammered,
"Actually... it’s quite beautiful. It suits girls very well..."
But as he continued speaking, he couldn’t resist showing off again.
"My mother loves buying gems. We have a gemstone at home that’s as big as a fist. If you like it, I can beg my mother to give it to you!"
Malfoy said proudly.
Many girls wanted that gemstone, but his mother had said that it would only be given to his future wife.
He looked at Vesey and blushed again.
Vesey came from an excellent family.
Although she and Harry Potter were the only remaining members of the Potter family, they were still considered pure-bloods.
Harry Potter also had an impressive reputation.
He had defeated You-Know-Who, so there was no reason why someone like him couldn’t eventually marry Vesey.
And, most importantly, Vesey was incredibly strong.
Over the past few nights, Malfoy had even begun dreaming about impressing Vesey and winning her admiration.
"You know, if you like it, I also have..."
"You still have a bloody mouth, so use it to shut up!"
Harry exploded.
"Get out, Malfoy! And if you ever try to hurt my sister again, you’ll regret it!"
