Chapter 6: Not Even an Old Man Is Spared?

"Severus, to Vesey, that man is a good person. She doesn’t realize that there’s anything wrong with him. If you don’t believe me, watch."

So Dumbledore cast a Stunning Charm on the man.

Sure enough.

Vesey wasn’t happy at all. Instead, she became worried.

Seeing the child anxiously pounding on the door, he even tried to wake the man up out of concern.

Snape could only sigh inwardly.

This child really was just like Lily—kind and clever.

She was clever enough to think of kicking a man to wake him up.

Just like Lily!

"Why didn’t anyone teach her that it would be better to hit him with something heavy? Or just cut the thing off?"

Seeing Vesey’s "kind" behavior, Snape decided that he absolutely had to teach the child some basic common sense in the future.

He couldn’t let her keep being so kind and helping other people like this!

"This child really is just like the one described in the diary. She’s so innocent."

Snape wiped the corners of his eyes.

He was deeply moved.

Dumbledore listened in silence.

Was Snape crazy?

He wasn’t sure whether Vesey was innocent or kind, but if this child were raised by Severus like this, she probably wouldn’t remain kind for very long.

"All right. It’s time for us to take little Vesey out of here."

Dumbledore reminded him.

Snape nodded quickly.

He immediately revealed himself.

Antoya was startled when two men suddenly appeared in front of him.

"Looks like I need to let you rest a little longer."

Snape raised his wand.

"Collapse!"

Vesey noticed that Snape had clearly knocked Antoya unconscious, yet his expression was so frightening that it looked as though he were casting the Killing Curse.

"You—who are you? What are you going to do to Mr. Antoya? I’m going to call the police!"

She pretended to be frightened and stood protectively in front of Antoya.

After all, anyone who suddenly saw two people capable of knocking someone unconscious with magic would be terrified.

Snape glared angrily at the man on the floor, wanting nothing more than to kill him.

He opened his mouth, intending to explain what the man had been planning to do.

However, Dumbledore beat him to it.

"Good girl, we’re the Headmaster and a professor from the school you rejected. The school is called Hogwarts."

"We came here to ask why you refused our invitation."

An apologetic expression immediately appeared on Vesey’s face.

She lowered her head guiltily.

"I’m sorry. The matron said I should go to Smetin School. I can’t go to Hogwarts. If I disobey her, she’ll be sad."

Seeing her guilty expression, Snape immediately became interested.

"Dumbledore, don’t you understand what’s going on? Why are you making things difficult for a child?"

He was furious.

Didn’t Dumbledore understand the situation?

Dumbledore felt a headache coming on.

This Snape...

Couldn’t he tell that Dumbledore was deliberately changing the subject?

Did he really want to tell this little girl, That man was trying to hurt you, and we’re here to save you?

Of course he didn’t want a child to know about something like that.

It was better to simply let Vesey forget about it.

"Child, I need to tell you something. You are a witch."

Vesey immediately raised her head in feigned surprise.

"A witch?"

Dumbledore waved his wand.

Antoya disappeared.

"This..."

She looked nervously at Dumbledore.

Dumbledore quickly reassured her.

"Mr. Antoya is seriously ill, so we sent him to the hospital. We hope he gets better soon!"

Vesey immediately looked at Dumbledore with admiration and gratitude.

"Wow! So this is what a wizard can do? You’re amazing!"

Dumbledore’s face reddened slightly.

After all, he hadn’t lied to a child very many times in his life.

Snape gave him a disdainful look.

It was obvious that Dumbledore had merely used a Disillusionment Charm to conceal Antoya, yet he had actually lied to the child and told her that he had sent him to the hospital.

And this man was supposed to be a Headmaster!

How shameful!

Dumbledore’s mouth twitched when he caught Snape’s expression.

Suppressing his embarrassment, he said to Vesey, "It’s all right. As long as you come to Hogwarts, you’ll be able to do amazing things like this too."

Vesey scratched her head.

She seemed tempted, but still felt that it was unlikely.

So she hesitantly said:

"I’m probably not... I mean, I always thought I was just an ordinary child, not a witch..."

"Besides, you should know that I’m an orphan. If I want to go to school, I’ll need someone kind-hearted to support me. I don’t have any money..."

She lowered her head, pretending to feel inferior.

Snape immediately pulled a large pouch of Galleons from his pocket.

"These are for you. Take them all!"

Vesey stared blankly at the large bag of gold Galleons.

When did Snape go to Gringotts? Did he withdraw his entire fortune?

Not only Vesey, but even Dumbledore nearly lost control of his expression.

Was Snape actually crazy?

Had he really gone to Gringotts and emptied his family vault?

Seeing Snape’s nostalgic expression, Dumbledore couldn’t help shaking his head.

All right.

Severus had once been willing to betray Voldemort for Lily.

Now this child looked exactly like Lily—even her hair was the same.

From Dumbledore’s perspective, Vesey was actually even more beautiful than Lily.

But in Snape’s mind, there was probably only Lily.

He sighed sympathetically.

Dumbledore reached out and gently touched Vesey’s head. He was about to explain that Lily and James had left enough money in Gringotts to support both Vesey and Harry.

But before he could say anything, he noticed the murderous look on Snape’s face.

Those eyes were fixed on Dumbledore’s hand resting on Vesey’s head.

Good grief. You don’t even trust an old man?

Snape was clearly worried.

He walked over and removed Dumbledore’s hand from Vesey’s head.

"Vesey doesn’t like people touching her. Didn’t you hear that earlier?"

He then looked at Vesey worriedly.

"If any man dares to touch you, just tell me. I’ll... entertain him!"

Vesey almost burst out laughing.

That kind of "entertainment" was almost exactly what she had imagined earlier when she looked in the mirror.

But although she understood perfectly well what Snape meant, she continued pretending not to understand. She tilted her head and looked up at him.

"How are you going to entertain them? Will you give them delicious food?"

Snape’s heart practically melted when he saw her like that.

Hearing her question, he immediately revealed a sinister smile.

"Yes! That’s right!"

"So if any man wants to touch you, just tell me. Don’t be afraid. I’m a professor at Hogwarts. I’ll be the only man who protects you."

"The other men aren’t good people!"

Dumbledore: "..."

Good grief.

This man wasn’t even her relative, yet he was saying that with such confidence?
