Chapter 60: Chapter Sixty: I’m Going to Find Her!

Chapter Sixty: I’m Going to Find Her!

Harry and Ron felt extremely guilty after being lectured by Vesey.

Almost instantly, they felt as though they were no different from the boys who had bullied Vesey in the orphanage.

In order to comfort her, the two of them nervously promised that they would definitely apologize to Hermione.

Only then did Vesey put on an embarrassed expression.

"Sorry, brother. Ron. I got a little carried away. I just don’t want other children to end up like I did.

"I’ve been caught in the rain myself, so I just want to hold an umbrella for others!"

Harry and Ron were filled with both pity and admiration for her.

Vesey was always like this.

She foolishly applied her own experiences to other people and always felt deeply for their suffering.

In reality, no matter how miserable other people were, none of them had suffered as much as she had in the past.

Harry and Ron had said they wanted to apologize to Hermione, but to their surprise, Hermione wasn’t present during the afternoon classes.

She even skipped Transfiguration.

As a result, they became increasingly uneasy.

Even Vesey began asking the people around her about Hermione.

Before the Halloween feast, someone finally told Vesey where Hermione was.

"She’s crying in the girls’ bathroom!"

Lavender said with a laugh.

"Why is she so upset? I really don’t understand!"

Vesey sighed.

She knew exactly why.

Hermione hadn’t had a single friend since arriving at Hogwarts, and now Ron had openly said that he disliked her.

Of course she would cry.

"I’ll go apologize to her. That’s what I should do!"

Vesey looked worried.

But before she could leave, Snape caught her.

"Where are you going?"

Snape knew that Vesey would become friends with Granger today, and technically he shouldn’t interfere with what she did.

But after hesitating, he still felt that Vesey should eat first.

"No matter what you’re planning to do, go after dinner. You haven’t forgotten how poor your health was before, have you? I only managed to nurse you back to health recently!"

Snape’s tone left no room for argument.

Vesey wasn’t planning to go to Hermione immediately anyway, so she hesitated before Snape led her toward the Slytherin table.

The decorations in the Great Hall were extraordinarily elaborate.

Hundreds of bats flew overhead, while tiny magical creatures resembling flower fairies fluttered around.

For a moment, Vesey almost forgot about Hermione.

But she immediately reminded herself.

"Professor, I understand. I’ll finish eating quickly and then go find Hermione!"

Snape sighed softly.

"Eat before you go."

He insisted on adding that one sentence before returning to the staff table.

Vesey quickly ate some food.

She didn’t eat much.

In fact, it was impossible for her to eat properly because Quirrell didn’t give her much time.

Just after Vesey had eaten a steak, Quirrell suddenly rushed into the Great Hall.

He stumbled forward before stammering in terror,

"Dumbledore... the troll... the dungeons... I thought you knew!"

After saying this, he collapsed unconscious.

The Great Hall immediately descended into chaos.

Students screamed in fear.

Vesey remembered the persona she had to maintain and quickly moved to help Quirrell.

But before she could even touch him, Snape had already stepped between them.

"Don’t worry about what’s happening here. Stay in the Great Hall!"

Snape said seriously.

Since the troll was somewhere in the dungeons, the Slytherins certainly couldn’t return to their common room.

They had to remain in the Great Hall.

Vesey obediently nodded.

Snape suddenly remembered what the diary had said and felt that something was wrong.

Could Vesey and Granger’s reconciliation have something to do with the troll?

That shouldn’t be possible... right?

Snape looked at the well-behaved Vesey.

He never imagined that she would actually go into the dungeons to look for a troll.

He closed his eyes and pushed the uneasiness from his mind.

"Don’t be afraid. I’ll be back soon!"

Snape said.

Dumbledore was calling him over at that moment, obviously because there was something he needed to discuss.

Snape knew that Dumbledore probably wanted him to see the Philosopher’s Stone.

This was part of Dumbledore’s plan.

If he didn’t want Voldemort resurrected now, it was better to cooperate.

He hesitated for a moment.

With so many professors in the Great Hall, Vesey should be safe.

He finally felt a little more at ease and followed Dumbledore.

After Vesey saw Snape say a few words to Dumbledore, she followed the Gryffindor students as they began leaving the Great Hall.

She quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

She definitely couldn’t leave while Snape was watching her.

Fortunately, Snape couldn’t guard her every second of the day.

She stuffed a piece of treacle tart into her mouth, pretending that she was settling down to obey Snape’s orders.

Then, the very next second, she suddenly stood up as though she had remembered something.

Cassandra, who was sitting beside her, was startled.

"I have something to do, Cassandra. Don’t tell anyone!"

Vesey whispered into Cassandra’s ear.

During the time they had spent together, Vesey had learned that Cassandra was actually a very good person.

Although she was arrogant and cold, she was kind-hearted.

She rarely refused other people’s requests.

Unfortunately, because of her aloof expression, hardly anyone dared to ask her for anything.

Except Vesey.

Vesey had absolutely no shame about asking Cassandra for favors.

She had originally thought Cassandra would eventually become annoyed with her.

But after all this time, Cassandra had never once complained.

This time, however, Cassandra grabbed Vesey’s hand.

"What are you going to do? The school is in danger!"

Vesey nodded.

"I know. But I should save Hermione if she’s in danger. I’ll definitely be fine, though, so don’t worry!"

She said it brightly before slipping into the groups of students from the other Houses and heading out of the Great Hall.

Vesey was still hesitating over whether to call Harry and Ron when she saw them running toward her.

"Vesey, why did you come out?"

Harry asked worriedly.

Vesey hesitated.

She was worried that Harry and Ron wouldn’t let her go.

Following the plot was one thing.

More importantly, without her involvement, the events described in the diary wouldn’t seem believable!

After thinking about it, she immediately put on a nervous expression.

"Hermione! Hermione is still in the dungeons. I have to find her!"

Harry and Ron’s eyes widened in horror.

"Why is she in the dungeons?"

Vesey’s eyes immediately reddened.

She spoke in a trembling voice.

"Lavender and the others said Hermione was crying in the girls’ bathroom. I couldn’t upset Professor Snape just now, so I went to eat first. I didn’t expect... I really shouldn’t have eaten!"

The self-blame in her voice made Harry and Ron’s hearts ache.

"It doesn’t matter. I don’t blame you. The two of us didn’t even know she was in the dungeons!"

"And besides, let’s go rescue her now!"

"Us?"

Vesey looked hesitant.

"I’d better go alone. I’m very strong..."

"Don’t be stupid! Why would your brother let you take a risk by yourself?"

Harry immediately objected.

"And even if Ron and I can’t help, at least we can make sure you’re not alone, right?"

Harry and Ron looked at each other.

Then they said together,

"Besides, we’re the ones who made her angry!"

Vesey pretended to hesitate.

But Harry and Ron had already grabbed her and started running toward the dungeons.

"Vesey, don’t hesitate! Hurry up! Even if you’re going to make it up to Hermione, the two of us should be the ones to do it..."

Harry suddenly paused.

"Wait. Shouldn’t we be the ones who stopped you from coming in the first place? Why are you somehow doing the opposite?"
