Chapter Sixty-Nine: Which Sucker?

At the same time.

Snape’s Dormitory

Snape closed his eyes and sat up in bed. He could no longer sleep.

Every time before, he had ended his reading of the diary with anger and disgust toward Dumbledore.

But this time, he had realized something else.

Although Dumbledore had been responsible for Vesey’s death, the more important point was that Vesey herself had no desire to keep living.

Just as the diary had said, Vesey had lost so many family members. She was already sensitive by nature, and it wasn’t surprising that her thoughts had gradually become darker.

Of course, Dumbledore must have played a part in it.

Snape snorted.

He really wanted to know what had happened to Vesey.

If only he could help her.

If only I hadn’t died so soon.

He really should have stayed by Vesey’s side.

Snape’s expression hardened.

If he could live for a few more years, he would take good care of Vesey.

Perhaps having him beside her would make her feel a little better.

And then there was Cassandra Worley.

Although the diary had never explicitly said that Cassandra was one of Vesey’s wives, the meaning behind the words was obvious.

Cassandra was clearly Vesey’s second wife.

Snape sighed.

It seemed that he couldn’t just keep an eye on the Gryffindor girls and the girls from the other houses.

He had to keep an eye on the Slytherin girls too.

There was no guarantee that one of Vesey’s future wives wasn’t among them.

---

At the same time.

Quirrell’s Office

Voldemort thoughtfully studied the contents of the diary, and surprise gradually appeared in his eyes.

"This Vesey really is a remarkable talent!"

He narrowed his eyes.

"If all of this is true, is it possible for the Dark Lord to win her over?"

But that was obviously going to be extremely difficult.

Vesey was Harry Potter’s sister. Even when Dumbledore became suspicious of her, she never changed her attitude toward him.

In the end, she had even died according to Dumbledore’s wishes.

It couldn’t simply be dismissed by saying that Dumbledore was treacherous.

After all, if Vesey herself refused, what could Dumbledore do with nothing but a portrait left behind?

Therefore, Voldemort wasn’t certain that he could win Vesey over.

Perhaps she couldn’t be recruited at all.

She might even report him to Dumbledore.

But Voldemort stroked his chin again and continued thinking.

He could slowly try to win Vesey over.

But before that, he could obtain the Vampire Transformation Potion formula.

From its name alone, he could guess that it was a potion capable of transforming vampires into genuine wizards.

If he could obtain the formula, he could definitely win over many more people.

He certainly wouldn’t be as foolish as Vesey and hand the formula over to the Ministry of Magic merely to receive a Merlin badge.

Of course, even if the formula were handed over to the Ministry, the Ministry wouldn’t be able to secretly distribute the potion formula.

Vesey would still have to act as its agent.

But Voldemort wanted something else.

He wanted the formula for himself.

He didn’t want anyone else to know about this magical potion. He wanted to use it to recruit people secretly.

I really hope Vesey can develop this potion soon.

I wonder... if I were to arrange a vampire attack, could I force her to develop the potion ahead of time?

A sinister smile appeared on Voldemort’s face.

---

At the same time.

Vesey was wiping the water from her hands with a towel.

To make it look as though she had been crying while writing the diary, she had simply wet her hands and let the droplets fall onto the pages like tears.

Hopefully that effect was convincing enough.

After drying her hands, she suddenly heard the system’s voice.

[Ding! The fourth diary has been completed. Evaluation will now begin.]

[Ding! Diary holder Dumbledore’s trust level: 91%.]

[Ding! Diary holder Snape’s trust level: 100%.]

[Ding! Diary holder McGonagall’s trust level: 99%.]

[Ding! Diary holder Voldemort’s trust level: 85%.]

[Ding! Diary holder Hermione’s trust level: 100%.]

[Ding! Diary holder Cassandra’s trust level: 90%.]

Vesey’s face lit up with surprise.

She had known that writing about everything she had observed about Cassandra during this period would earn her a high level of trust.

That was simply Cassandra’s personality.

Although she appeared arrogant, she was actually responsible and compassionate.

Moreover, Cassandra had already developed a favorable impression of Vesey.

Now that she knew she would become one of Vesey’s wives in the future, her feelings toward Vesey would naturally become even more favorable.

Vesey was very pleased with this.

Then she looked at Voldemort’s trust level.

Eighty-five percent was probably the highest level of trust Voldemort could give her at the moment.

After all, she had given Voldemort something he desperately wanted—the Vampire Transformation Potion.

Voldemort definitely wanted it.

In fact, any wizard who wanted to rule the wizarding world would want it.

Everyone knew that vampire wizards possessed extremely powerful magic. If someone could give them a legitimate place in wizarding society, that person would undoubtedly become their great benefactor.

It would be strange if Voldemort didn’t want the potion.

Vesey was certain that Voldemort must be hoping she would develop it as quickly as possible.

Based on Voldemort’s personality, he was probably already considering arranging a vampire attack on the people around her to give her more motivation.

That was exactly what Vesey wanted.

She had been wondering how she could produce the potion without making her actions seem suspicious.

But now she had Voldemort.

This enormous scapegoat can be handed over to him!

Originally, she had considered using Energy to cause a vampire attack on her classmates herself.

But after thinking it over, she decided it was still too risky.

Dumbledore was an old fox. He would definitely investigate the matter thoroughly.

If she made even one mistake, her carefully constructed image would be ruined.

Since she was supposed to be such an innocent person, it was better for her not to do something like that herself.

If she could guide Voldemort into doing it, the result would be much better.

No matter how suspicious Dumbledore became, he would have no reason to connect it to her.

[Ding! Evaluation complete.]

[Congratulations, host, you have received an S+ evaluation!]

[Ding! Since this is the host’s first S+ evaluation, the host has obtained one opportunity to select a diary holder.]

[Ding! Before writing the next diary entry, the host may personally select the diary holder. If no holder is selected before the next diary entry is written, the system will randomly select one.]

Vesey’s face filled with surprise.

This time, she could actually choose the diary holder herself.

This is amazing!

She had always been worried that the system might randomly select someone strange.

For example, if it chose Bellatrix...

There was no way Bella would believe that her master had failed.

Even if she were still in Azkaban and unable to leave, as long as she refused to believe the diary, Vesey’s evaluation would drop.

But this time, she could finally make the choice herself.

At least she wouldn’t have to worry about that before writing the next diary.

As for whom she should choose...

There were simply too many possibilities.

The Weasleys were honest people. If they saw the diary, they would probably believe it.

There were also plenty of other students at Hogwarts.

Apart from the Slytherins, many of them were relatively straightforward and would probably have high trust levels.

Vesey couldn’t decide who to choose.
