Chapter 82 — Sixth Diary Entry
Late at night.
Devon.
Nicolas Flamel’s estate.
Nicolas Flamel and his wife had not spoken for months.
The reason was that he had secretly lent the Philosopher’s Stone to Dumbledore.
In other words, he had already decided to give up immortality. He believed that he should move on to greater adventures, just as his wife had.
In fact, his wife, Perenelle, had died four months ago.
Perenelle’s magical power was not as strong as his, and her health had never been good. Even the Philosopher’s Stone could not extend her life any further.
But Perenelle refused to leave him. She became a ghost and returned to stay by his side.
Nicolas should have been overjoyed that his wife had returned, but after more than six hundred years together, they had never truly been separated.
Yet now, a wizard and a ghost could not even embrace each other.
And at that moment, Nicolas began to consider giving up immortality.
It just so happened that Dumbledore came looking for him.
Dumbledore asked whether he wanted to keep an ordinary Philosopher’s Stone or one that was about to become useless.
Without hesitation, Nicolas handed over the Philosopher’s Stone he had used for so many years.
Dumbledore was stunned.
He asked Nicolas what he was thinking.
Nicolas told him that the number associated with Satan in the Bible was 666, while he was already 665 years old. It was time for him to move on to more interesting adventures.
Although Dumbledore thought the reason was somewhat ridiculous, seeing how determined Nicolas was, he naturally accepted the Philosopher’s Stone.
Perenelle was furious.
She had thought that, as a ghost, she would no longer be a burden to Nicolas. She had never expected him to actually consider becoming a ghost and staying with her.
She hysterically demanded that Nicolas make another Philosopher’s Stone, but Nicolas refused.
He had even begun destroying the other Philosopher’s Stones.
This wasn’t because he was selfish. If these things weren’t destroyed, there would always be treasure hunters disturbing his and Perenelle’s peace.
There would always be people suspecting that they were hiding some even more important secret.
Although those people could never actually get inside, they would keep coming to cause trouble.
And that was extremely annoying.
In fact, Nicolas had already taught his students the method of making the Philosopher’s Stone.
It was simply that his students were too stupid to learn it, yet they still believed he was hiding something from them.
Dumbledore could learn it, but he had no desire to do so. He didn’t want to live forever either.
Nicolas was somewhat regretful that he had never found a successor before his death, but he was too lazy to search for one.
If he couldn’t find someone after several hundred years, then forget it!
Only true geniuses could learn his techniques.
Nicolas shook his head.
Just as he was about to coax Perenelle again, a black diary suddenly appeared in front of him.
The diary radiated a powerful aura, but Nicolas wasn’t frightened in the slightest. Instead, he picked it up out of curiosity.
If he were allowed to die at this point, he would at least be able to explain everything to Perenelle.
Unfortunately, the diary couldn’t kill people.
Nicolas could only shake his head regretfully and slowly begin reading from the first page, a smile on his face.
He read through the fifth page in one sitting, and a trace of emotion flashed through his eyes.
But only a trace.
None of this had anything to do with him. He was simply experiencing the joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness of someone else’s story.
Nicolas smiled and was about to put the diary down when, at that moment, the diary suddenly turned to the next page on its own.
Then, as if an invisible hand were writing on it, lines of text rapidly appeared.
"January 14, 2024"
"I met a strange old gentleman in a cemetery today. He seemed to have just woken up and was still a little confused. When I saw him, he was holding Vesey’s tombstone and was so overcome with grief that he nearly fainted from crying."
"I’ve met almost all of Vesey’s friends, but I don’t remember him at all."
"So, out of kindness, I went over and asked whether he was Vesey’s friend."
"The old gentleman ignored me at first. But after I told him that I had spent a great deal of time with Vesey during the final days of her life, he finally began to pay attention to me."
"He told me that he had been Vesey’s teacher—the teacher who taught her alchemy."
"I was stunned. I knew who he was!"
"Vesey once told me that she had an accident during the summer vacation of her first year, which somehow brought her to Mr. Nicolas’s estate."
"There, she met Mr. Nicolas. She told me that he was about to commit suicide, and she saved him."
"At the time, she didn’t know who Mr. Nicolas was or why he wanted to die. She simply thought it was wrong, so she angrily gave him a piece of her mind..."
"Mr. Nicolas was stunned because he had no idea where this girl had come from. As a result, she gave him a thorough scolding."
"He was furious. He felt that Vesey didn’t know anything and was merely trying to show off how clever she was."
"So he wanted to throw Vesey out. But something unexpected happened. Not only did his estate allow Vesey to enter, it actually sealed itself after she came inside."
"If Mr. Nicolas wanted to open the estate again, he would have to study the problem for several days."
"Some people, when they’re about to die, would probably have no concern for anyone else’s life or death. But Mr. Nicolas wasn’t like that—or rather, his wife wouldn’t allow him to be."
"She ordered Mr. Nicolas to release Vesey so that she could leave safely."
"Vesey told me that Mr. Nicolas’s wife was the only person in the world who could control him. Mr. Nicolas had wanted to die because his wife, Perenelle, had passed away before him."
When he read this, Nicolas finally sat up straight.
He frowned at the words.
Yes.
Everything written above was correct.
If something like that really happened, Perenelle would definitely have ordered him to save the girl.
So what happened afterward?
Why did he become that girl’s teacher?
Could it be...
A trace of excitement appeared in his heart.
To other people, the diary was highly suspicious, and its contents needed to be carefully considered.
But Nicolas could only feel happy.
If this girl named Vesey could really learn how to make the Philosopher’s Stone, he wouldn’t mind bringing her into his estate and allowing her to stay there safely, away from all those troubles.
In Nicolas’s eyes, if he found a good student, he wouldn’t mind living a few more years for her.
As long as she was willing to learn and capable of learning, he could protect her interests.
Although it was impossible for him to kill Voldemort, he believed that as long as he hid inside his estate, Voldemort would never be able to find his exact location.
As long as he didn’t want anyone to enter, no one could enter his estate...
Thinking of this, Nicolas suddenly froze.
If he remembered correctly, it seemed that Vesey had simply walked in.
Well...
That must have been an accident!
