Chapter 83 — I Don’t Like This Ending!

Gryffindor girls’ dormitory.

Hermione stared at the words in shock.

She suddenly became much more alert.

Nicolas Flamel!

She had actually seen an introduction to Nicolas Flamel.

And this gentleman was actually Vesey’s future teacher?

Her heart was filled with shock, yet at the same time, she felt that it made perfect sense.

After all, Vesey was a super genius.

Mr. Flamel obviously liked Vesey very much too. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have cried while holding Vesey’s tombstone.

What happened next?

Hermione curiously continued reading.

"Mr. Flamel listened to his wife’s wishes and had no choice but to let Vesey stay at the estate while he began investigating what had happened to the manor. How could the manor have opened again and then sealed itself?"

"After Vesey stayed at the Flamel estate for a few days, she became very close to his wife."

"She told Vesey about her relationship with Mr. Flamel and said that she didn’t want Mr. Flamel to die yet."

"After becoming a ghost, Perenelle could only remain trapped inside the Flamel estate. She didn’t want Mr. Flamel to end up like her. She hoped that he could live until the natural end of his life."

"Vesey was deeply moved by their relationship and decided to do something about it."

"She heard that Mr. Flamel needed an heir, so she began trying to read his books on alchemy."

"Vesey told me that when she first started reading them, she could barely understand anything. She was only a first-year student, after all, and the material was far too difficult for her."

"But for Mr. Flamel’s sake, she studied almost day and night."

"By the time Mr. Flamel had repaired the manor and discovered what had happened, Vesey had already put a great deal of effort into creating an alchemical product."

"Although her skills were still immature, she had managed to create an alchemical product within a month through self-study. This finally made Mr. Flamel admire her."

"Mr. Flamel decided to teach her and see how far she could go. Vesey worked tirelessly to learn from him, hoping to fulfill Perenelle’s wish."

"Mr. Flamel praised Vesey’s abilities so highly that he eventually decided to accept her as his student."

"From then on, Vesey had somewhere to go during the holidays."

"She worked extremely hard and found ways to improve her studies every year. This attitude made Mr. Flamel like her more and more."

"Because of her, he gradually gave up the idea of dying. He even began taking Vesey around the world to visit various alchemy masters, hoping that those people could pass on something useful to her."

"During the summer vacation of her sixth year, Vesey was finally able to make a small Philosopher’s Stone by herself."

"Mr. Flamel was incredibly proud of her and wanted her to become the heir to the Flamel family, but Vesey rejected his offer."

"At that time, Dumbledore was dead and the mysterious man was running rampant. Vesey said that she would follow her brother and save more innocent people."

"By this point, Mr. Flamel’s relationship with her was already extremely deep. Naturally, he wouldn’t allow her to do it, and Vesey never expected him to agree."

"She used a method she had found in a book of dark magic to completely seal the Flamel estate. Even if Mr. Flamel wanted to break the seal, it would take him twelve years of experimentation."

"Vesey asked the house-elf to deliver food to Mr. Flamel regularly, and then followed Harry everywhere."

"Later, when the war was over, Vesey wanted to go see Mr. Flamel, but she felt guilty. She thought that since she was going to die anyway, she should simply disappear from his life."

"As for Mr. Flamel, he refused to come out and see Vesey because of her previous stubbornness. Both of them were too stubborn to take the first step."

"For ten years, whenever Vesey thought of Mr. Flamel, she would only stand outside the estate and look at it from a distance."

"Before she died, she wrote many letters and asked the house-elves to deliver one to Mr. Flamel every year, creating the illusion that she was still alive."

"Who could have known that after all those years, Mr. Flamel would finally come out?"

"Mr. Flamel told me that he had been waiting all these years for Vesey to return and admit that she had been wrong."

"He felt that Vesey’s previous apology hadn’t been sincere. If she knew she was wrong, why didn’t she dare to come back and see him?"

"Besides, he had stayed inside the Flamel estate for far too long and had completely lost track of time. Especially when he was conducting experiments, it was perfectly normal for several years to pass without him realizing it."

"This time, he had finally completed an experiment and wanted to share his joy with Vesey."

"Vesey hadn’t returned for so many years. Although Mr. Flamel was angry, he still missed her. So he finally found an excuse to leave the estate."

"Who would have thought that he would learn about Vesey’s death from the Daily Prophet?"

"Only then did he realize that it wasn’t that Vesey didn’t want to return. She simply couldn’t."

"Mr. Flamel asked me many questions about Vesey, and I did my best to tell him everything I knew."

"It’s a pity that there were some things I knew and some things I didn’t. I stumbled over my words, but he wasn’t angry. He simply said that he would find other people and ask them."

"In the afternoon, Mr. Flamel finally stood up to leave. He told me that he would learn more about Vesey. If Vesey needed revenge, he would avenge her."

"If she didn’t need him to do so, he would return to the estate, seal it again, and never appear in the outside world."

"He told me that if Vesey hadn’t existed, he would have died long ago. He had only continued living for several more decades because of her."

"I really wanted to persuade him to live a good life, but when I looked into his lifeless eyes, which were almost identical to Vesey’s before she died, I swallowed my words."

"Perhaps, for this old man, wherever he needs to go will be better than where he is now. Maybe he will even be able to see Vesey again on the other side."

"It’s just that I don’t like this ending at all!"

"I hate this ending so much!"

The final sentence in the diary was heavily emphasized. It was obvious how angry the writer was.

In the past, Mr. Flamel might have felt uncomfortable seeing someone write so forcefully that they practically damaged the page.

But today, he rarely paid any attention to it.

He suddenly felt terribly depressed.

He could even understand the emotions behind every word in the diary.

The heir he had chosen had died before him.

Moreover, Vesey had clearly succeeded in creating the Philosopher’s Stone before she left the estate.

In the end, she hadn’t even made use of it and had simply allowed herself to die.

He must have thought that Vesey had died because of her own choices.

With such an ending, how could he not despair?

Even now, Nicolas felt an overwhelming melancholy.

It would have been better if that child had never appeared.

If Vesey had never appeared, at least he would have died peacefully long ago. He would never have experienced the despair of an old man having to bury someone he loved like a father.

Nicolas sighed deeply.

What was he supposed to do?

How could he go to Dumbledore and ask him to send that child to him?

Perhaps he could ask Dumbledore not to let her go to school at all.

Just let her stay with him.
