Standing before the towering, fourteen-meter stone gates that Ren had raised from the earth, the eighteen outcasts gaped at the vast expanse of Lumiria. Beyond the heavy perimeter wall lay the twenty newly restored two-story residences, flanked by wide, open stretches of uncultivated land catching the faint silver glow of the moon.

They stood in a neat, trembling line, their heads bowed low toward the cobblestones.

"You can take your pick of the houses," Ren said, gesturing casually toward the residential row. "From tonight on, this is where you live."

The eighteen refugees bowed in unison, their voices barely above a whisper. "Th-thank you... Leader Ren."

Ren offered a brief, awkward smile, rubbing the back of his neck.

A woman carrying a thin, sleeping child in a wrapped sling stepped forward half a pace, her eyes fixed on the ground. "Leader Ren... it doesn’t feel right for us to accept shelter like this without offering something in return. Please, give us work. Tell us what we must do to earn our keep."

Elysia crossed her arms beside Ren, quietly observing his reaction.

"Don’t worry, I’ll assign your roles soon enough," Ren replied, resting his hands on his hips. "For tonight, just pick a house and get some rest. It’s late."

Truth be told, he hadn’t yet drafted a full labor schedule for the district. Establishing agricultural fields, setting up basic infrastructure, and organizing supply lines were tasks he needed to plan out starting tomorrow.

A collective murmur of relief passed through the group. They nodded deeply, their shoulders relaxing for the first time in years. "Thank you, Leader. We swear we will work as hard as we can for you."

"Right. Go ahead and choose your homes," Ren said, pointing toward the far end of the street. "Except for that one over there."

He singled out the specific two-story residence housing the intact subterranean basement—the Celestial structure he still needed to investigate thoroughly.

The refugees nodded obediently, their expressions brightening with genuine warmth as they dispersed into the quiet street. They moved from house to house, marveling at the clean, sturdy stone interiors.

Watching them settle in, a profound sense of relief settled in Ren’s chest. For the first time since being thrust into this unforgiving world, he had used his abilities to provide something meaningful to those who truly needed it.

Elysia stepped up beside him, a playful, mocking smirk touching her lips. "Well then, my esteemed Leader Ren... what grand tasks do you have lined up for your broad populace tomorrow?"

Ren turned his head, casting a deadpan look at her. "Why are you still here?"

"Oh? Have you forgotten, noble governor?" Elysia’s tone shifted into a cool, matter-of-fact rhythm as she rested her hands on her waist. "You’re still under active royal surveillance due to the entity locked inside you."

She leaned in slightly, her eyes locking onto his. "Did you think I was tagging along for fun? I’m here under direct orders from the crown to monitor your status."

Ren let out a long, defeated sigh.

’Right... Leader or not, I’m still a walking hazard to the kingdom because of NYX.’

He wasn’t about to fight the arrangement, even if having a royal chaperone severely restricted his privacy. He lacked any standing to reject the guard detail, especially considering the primordial entity sealed within his soul.

In reality, the seal had reached full synchronization through his system interface, theoretically granting him stable control over its parameters. The terrifying outburst back in Vora’s pocket dimension had only occurred because he was pushed to the absolute brink of death, desperate to ensure Liora’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain. Under normal circumstances, he could keep the entity dormant, but explaining system percentage thresholds to the royal court was out of the question.

"So... are you going to stand over me non-stop?" Ren asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Of course," Elysia replied without missing a beat.

Ren let out a low laugh, his lips curling into a teasing grin. "What, no sleep for you? Is your sister really cruel enough to make her own flesh and blood pull twenty-four-hour surveillance duty?"

Elysia pouted, flicking her wrist dismissively. "Don’t be ridiculous. Who said I’m doing this alone? My shift ends when my replacements arrive."

Ren’s smile faltered. His brow furrowed in utter disbelief. "Wait... replacements? You mean there’s a full rotation?!"

Elysia offered a sweet, triumphant grin and nodded.

A muscle in Ren’s eye twitched. "Are you serious? Are you people going to watch me while I sleep? While I take a bath? This is absurd!"

"Get over yourself, Ren," Elysia scoffed, rolling her eyes. "We observe from a respectful distance. No one is peeking into your bathroom."

"Hey! Over here!" a bright voice called out from the darkness near the main gate.

Both Ren and Elysia turned toward the archway.

Two figures were stepping through the moonlit entrance, waving casually as they approached.

"Reika? Miku?" Ren muttered, narrowing his eyes.

Reika wore an elegant off-shoulder white dress decorated with delicate blue floral patterns, her long black hair cascading smoothly over her shoulders. Beside her, Miku sported a vibrant red off-shoulder gown, her bright crimson hair cut short just below her neck.

They strode up to the pair with light, easy steps.

"Unbelievable, Ren," Miku chirped cheerfully, offering him a broad, teasing grin. "You actually went ahead and became a domain leader overnight! Congratulations, Governor!"

Reika let out a soft, melodious laugh. "Congratulations, Ren. We already know the truth about your abilities, so there’s no need to play modest around us anymore."

Elysia stretched her arms overhead, letting out a satisfied breath. "Ah, perfect timing. Here are my replacements. They’ll be taking over watch duty from here on out."

Ren’s posture slumped, his shoulders dropping in complete resignation.

’Great. Absolutely wonderful.’

They knew his secret, they held royal authority, and they were rotating shifts around his perimeter like a tight military perimeter. He was trapped in a golden cage, and he simply had to accept it.

[POV: Kael Dravenor]

Meanwhile, deep within the damp, suffocating depths of an isolated subterranean cavern miles from the capital...

Five royal heroes stood shoulder to shoulder in the pitch-black abyss, their knuckles white as they gripped the hilts of their weapons. Cold sweat glistened on their pale, terrified faces.

Before them loomed an abomination—a massive, bloated sphere of mutated flesh supported by dozens of writhing, snake-like legs that scraped against the cavern floor with a sickening, rhythmic click. At the center of its grotesque, pulsating body sat a single, massive blood-red eye that glared down at them with terrifying intelligence.

Off in a shadowed corner of the cave, a puddle of crimson stained the jagged rocks. The torn, mangled remains of Kurogane and Arata lay scattered in pieces, their limbs brutally severed from their torsos.

Several of the junior heroes couldn’t even bring themselves to look at the gory scene, their knees trembling violently against their heavy armor plates.

Only one man stood completely unfazed.

Kael Dravenor stood at the vanguard, his posture rigid and commanding. He held a brilliant blue longsword pointed directly at the creature’s central eye, a freezing frost wafting off the polished edge of his blade.

"Ke-ke-ke... Ahahaha!"

A wet, guttural laugh echoed from the creature’s grotesque form, vibrating through the stone walls of the cavern.

The surrounding heroes turned even paler, their breath hitching in pure horror.

"What the hell...?" one of the adventurers stammered, his sword shaking in his grip. "H-How is this thing speaking?!"

"Monsters don’t talk... this isn’t normal!" another whimpered, taking a hesitant step backward.

Facing a Grade-A Aberrant was nightmare enough, but confronting an evolved entity capable of human speech defied every tactical textbook in the kingdom.

Kael’s eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits, his focus narrowing entirely on the creature’s subtle movements. Glacial mana surged through his veins, ready to flash-freeze the entire cavern the instant the beast made an aggressive twitch.

"Insignificant insects..." the Aberrant’s voice boomed, deep and raspy, carrying an unbearable pressure that rattled the teeth in their skulls. "I shall grant you the mercy of a single question before I digest your flesh."

The massive red eye widened, projecting a crimson glare that pinned the five warriors in place.

"Tell me, scum... Has the Starlight Kingdom fallen yet?"

Kael’s brow twitched slightly at the bizarre inquiry.

"I ask you once more!" the monster roared, its vocal cords emitting a sonic shockwave that forced the junior heroes to drop their weapons and clasp their hands tightly over their bleeding ears. "Has the realm of Starlight crumbled into ash?!"

"Damn it! My head feels like it’s exploding!" a hero groaned, collapsing to his knees.

Kael remained planted like a mountain, his azure blade leveled steadily at the monster’s eye without a single tremor in his hands.

"What are you babbling about, you revolting freak?" Kael demanded, his voice cold, flat, and devoid of fear. "Do you truly believe a magnificent realm like the Starlight Kingdom could be so easily destroyed?"
