I Am the Dark God's Fragment: My System Turns Destruction Into Power
Chapter 56: The Omen above Lumiria
A few hours later.
Noonday sun streamed through the window, washing over Ren’s face as he lay motionless on the wooden floorboards.
Elysia, Miku, and Reika stood in a circle above him, looking down at his quiet, sleeping face.
"Hey, wake up. It’s already past noon," Elysia murmured, nudging the tip of her boot against his boot.
Ren’s eyelids fluttered open, feeling heavy and swollen from less than eight hours of sleep. Finding three pairs of eyes staring down at him the second he woke up, he sat up abruptly and rubbed his knuckles against his bloodshot eyes.
"Ren, I’ve already organized everyone and assigned their duties according to what you laid out last night," Reika said with a gentle smile.
Prior to crashing, Ren had asked Reika and Miku to handle the preliminary labor assignments for the refugees.
Ren sat on the floor, staring blankly ahead as his groggy mind struggled to catch up. "Really...?" he rasped, rubbing his eyes again before forcing himself onto wobbly feet.
Both Reika and Miku nodded softly.
"Honestly, Ren, I didn’t expect this place to have active operations running so quickly," Elysia noted, folding her arms as her eyes scanned the room.
Stumbling forward like a ghost, Ren pushed open the front door. The brilliant noon sunlight struck his face, forcing him to instinctively raise a hand to shield his eyes.
Miku stepped out behind him and pointed toward the open sector—toward the agricultural plots, the barracks, and the dining hall.
Ren’s eyes widened. "Huh...?"
He froze on the porch. A bustling crowd of people was actively moving throughout the settlement. Over near the barracks, a dozen recruits were undergoing basic sword drills under the direct supervision of Ryu Celestial. Out in the agricultural fields, men and women were carefully planting seeds he and Elysia had purchased the day before. Over at the dining hall, women were preparing meals with fully stocked rations in a newly organized kitchen.
The scene took him completely off guard—not just because of the structured activity, but because the number of workers had clearly grown beyond the original eighteen outcasts.
Noticing his stunned silence, Elysia broke his trance, standing beside him with her arms crossed.
"Surprised by the progress?" Elysia asked calmly. "Yesterday, Princess Evelyn ordered the royal guard to sweep the lower capital and gather any displaced citizens willing to become official residents of Lumiria."
She gestured toward the active fields. "The princess dropped by while you were passed out. When she saw the finished infrastructure—the fields, barracks, and dining hall—she personally assigned the new arrivals to fill out the remaining workforce."
"I see..." Ren’s gaze drifted across the crowded square, taking in the vibrant, organized movement.
Elysia turned to face him, alongside Miku and Reika. "Ryu Celestial, Reika, and Miku have agreed to take on official administrative roles to help manage the territory—if you’re willing to appoint them, that is. What’s your decision?"
Ren held his chin, considering the proposal. It was a practical move; managing a rapidly growing district single-handedly was impossible.
He nodded without hesitation. "I agree. That works out perfectly. Trying to run this entire place on my own would’ve buried me eventually."
Reika took a step forward, offering a soft smile. "I’ll gladly oversee the agricultural fields and food supplies. My parents taught me farming back home, so I can manage our crop yields and food storage." She bowed her head politely.
"Whoa, hold on," Ren stammered, scratching his cheek awkwardly. "There’s no need to be so formal with me."
Miku bowed next, speaking with crisp efficiency. "Leader Ren, please leave the dining hall and armory logistics to me. I know how to handle inventory logs, track incoming and outgoing supplies, and I learned cooking from my mother. I can make myself useful there."
Ren let out a light, awkward laugh and bowed back to them. "I’m counting on both of you. Let’s work well together."
Elysia watched the exchange, shaking her head with a faint smile.
"If you’ll excuse us, we’ll go inspect our assigned areas," Reika and Miku said in unison, bowing once more before heading toward the central square.
Ren watched them walk away, a quiet sense of fulfillment settling in his chest.
"What are you smirking about?" Elysia interjected, catching his subtle expression. "Do you think leading a domain is easy? A leader carries the weight of every soul under his command." Her eyes sharpened, pinning him with a stern look.
"Of course I know that," Ren replied, adopting a theatrical, solemn posture. "It’s tough, but a real man takes full responsibility for what he starts, all the way to the end."
A muscle in Elysia’s cheek twitched. "I certainly hope that isn’t just empty talk," she said flatly.
She reached into the inner pocket of her dress, pulled out a tightly rolled parchment, and pressed it directly against Ren’s chest.
Ren caught the scroll before it slipped.
"Read it. It’s a letter from Princess Evelyn," Elysia said, turning on her heel to walk away.
Ren watched her retreating back before unrolling the parchment. The sharp, elegant calligraphy inside read:
Ren Celestial,
I will continue to monitor you, regardless of your new status as the leader of Lumiria. However, should you require guidance on administrative management or domain expansion, I am available to consult at your request. That being said, I prefer you handle matters independently, as assisting you would simply add to my workload.
Regards,
Princess Evelyn of the Starlight Kingdom
Reading the crisp message, Ren’s lips curled into a faint smile as his eye twitched.
"What’s with this princess...?"
"I thought it was something serious, but it’s just her usual roundabout talk," Ren murmured, rolling the parchment back up and tucking it away.
’Does she really think I’m going to struggle running a district?’
To Ren, managing a settlement wasn’t entirely foreign territory. Back on Earth as Elian, his career as an architect meant leading massive construction projects and directing large crews under strict deadlines. Furthermore, he had spent countless hours playing kingdom-building strategy games in his free time.
Even so, he recognized that Evelyn’s administrative experience held value. Building a civilization in a dark fantasy world wasn’t merely about urban planning; it was a brutal struggle for survival where massive stone walls were all that separated humanity from roaming monstrosities. Pure construction without military strategy was suicide.
His mind drifted toward the newly built armory structure.
His long-term plan was to equip his defense force with modern firearms derived from Earth’s military design. Building a sector backed by advanced kinetic technology was his primary strategy for survival. He intended to steadily manufacture firearm stock using his system before putting the recruits through live-fire training drills.
"System," Ren called out in a low voice.
A translucent blue interface materialized before his eyes.

Examining the interface, Ren’s eyes brightened as he noted the stable reset timer on the NYX seal. His remaining CP and CM reserves were sufficient to begin prototyping firearms inside the armory.
He turned and jogged toward the far end of the square where the newly constructed armory stood.
The building was a wide, reinforced single-story bunker crafted from smooth, dark granite. Its heavy double doors were forged from reinforced iron plates, flanked by narrow slit windows designed for defensive firing angles.
Just as Ren reached the heavy iron doors and reached for the latch, he froze.
A sudden, violent gust of wind swept across the open plains. Within seconds, the brilliant afternoon sky turned dim, the bright sunlight fading behind an oppressive, ink-black haze.
An unexplainable chill ran down Ren’s spine.
The gale intensified, howling across both the Starlight Kingdom and the territory of Lumiria. The warm atmosphere evaporated instantly, replaced by a suffocating, dim gloom as the sun was swallowed by heavy, unnatural storm clouds.
Across the district, workers stopped mid-action. Recruits lowered their wooden swords, farmers paused in the soil, and citizens looked up into the darkening sky, their clothes snapping loudly in the howling wind.
The peaceful atmosphere turned grim and tense in a matter of seconds.
Ren squinted up at the churning black clouds overhead. "Overcast...?"
’Is it going to rain?’
He gripped the iron door handle tighter as an unsettling weight settled in his gut. His instincts had never lied to him before; if this were merely a routine rainstorm, his nerves wouldn’t be screaming in alarm.
Something was horribly wrong.
