Chapter 167: The Second Young Miss
Chapter 167: The Second Young Miss
Leon and Noira appeared a short distance away from the college gate, far enough that no one would notice their sudden arrival.
"Noira," Leon said, "you should head back. I think Jenny will be perfectly safe with Lamia there. But if the three of you still encounter a situation you can’t handle... come to me immediately. Understood?"
"Yes, Master." Noira nodded. "But you can rest easy. No matter who comes now, they won’t be leaving alive. With the Primordial Serpent princess watching over her, no one in this Detached Heaven can pose a threat to you."
"You know about her too?"
"Master, she’s a Divine Beast. It would be a sin if I didn’t."
Leon smiled faintly. "Alright. Then I can finally stop worrying and focus on my exams. You may go."
Noira nodded once more before opening another spatial rift. She stepped inside and vanished.
Leon remained standing there for a brief moment despite being in a hurry.
"Things are changing far too quickly," he muttered to himself. "Ever since I obtained the system, I haven’t even had time to catch my breath. Whatever... let’s get this exam over with first."
He walked toward the college building.
Just before entering his classroom, he noticed Cecilia walking into another classroom down the corridor. They belonged to different sections of the same year.
His gaze instinctively fell upon the bandage wrapped around her head.
’She got hurt protecting Jenny... I still don’t know why she did it or how she even got there, but I should thank her properly.’ With that thought in mind, Leon entered his classroom.
The moment he slid the door open, dozens of eyes turned toward him.
"Leon, where have you been these last two days?" Miss Cicimore asked. She was serving as the invigilator for today’s exam. "I thought you’d decided not to take the finals anymore."
"It’s nothing like that, Miss," Leon replied politely. "I just had to deal with some unfortunate circumstances and couldn’t attend classes."
"I see." She nodded. "Best of luck."
"Thank you."
Leon walked to his seat and sat down.
"Bro, what happened? You look exhausted," Henry asked from the desk beside him.
"Just a little tired."
"Were you even able to study properly?" Henry grinned. "If you fail, don’t expect me to wait for you. I’m joining the military training camp selection no matter what."
Leon chuckled. "Like I will give you that chance."
He took out his pen and the rest of his stationery as the exam papers were distributed.
Soon, the examination began. ’At least it’s mathematics,’ Leon thought with relief. ’If it had been any other subject, I probably would’ve failed after being unconscious for two whole days.’ Shaking away the distracting thoughts, he focused on the questions before him.
What Leon didn’t know was that someone was secretly observing him from the rooftop of a distant building through a pair of binoculars.
Beside that person stood a young woman in her early twenties.
"So this is the boy who killed all of our men?" she asked calmly.
"Yes, Young Miss," the man replied without lowering the binoculars. "It’s him."
"I wasn’t aware that a small country like Delvan had a Disaster Class knight."
"They don’t, Young Miss. We checked the entire Hunter Association registry in Delvan. He isn’t even a registered hunter. According to the information we’ve gathered, he’s preparing to participate in the military training camp selection."
"Do you think he could be from Summitas Valley then?"
"Highly possible, Young Miss. The swordsmanship he displayed was far too profound. He’s definitely a sword master."
The young woman fell silent for a moment before asking, "What’s his relationship with my sister?"
"According to our investigation, the boy’s father adopted the second Young Miss after finding her when she was still a child."
The woman’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Do you think they know her true identity?"
"Not sure, Young Miss," the man replied. "The boy’s father died in a car accident several years ago. I tried digging deeper into the incident, but every lead disappeared. I believe it wasn’t an accident at all. It was murder. The same incident also left his mother in a coma."
He paused before continuing.
"But one thing is certain. The boy knows nothing about the second Young Miss’s true identity. He genuinely treats her as his own sister and cares deeply for her."
"Hmmm." The girl shook her head thoughtfully. "Tell me more about him."
"Name Leon Bale. Even just one month ago, he was a nobody. He used to work two part-time jobs just to support his family. Yet over the past month, everything changed. He went from being an ordinary nobody to a knight with frightening strength almost overnight. A few days ago, he cleared a D-Class gate all on his own. Not only that. He even killed a demon."
The young woman’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
"He killed a demon? Then he’s definitely from the Summitas Valley."
"I don’t think so, Young Miss. The current clan leader’s daughter couldn’t recognize him. So even if he’s from Summitas Valley, he definitely isn’t from the Demon Slayer clan.
"What?" The girl looked shocked beyond words. "How can there be someone who can kill a demon without being a member of the Demon Slayer clan?"
The man had no answer.
The girl fell into deep thoughts before asking again. "Then how are we supposed to bring Jenny back? There isn’t much time left before the ritual."
"He’ll be leaving for the military training camp within a week or two. That will be our opportunity to act."
He hesitated for a moment before adding,
"But, Young Miss... this boy is dangerous. More importantly, he’s unpredictable. What do you think will happen when he finds out that the person he believed to be his sister has died?"
The young woman fell silent. A moment later, she spoke in an indifferent tone. "He’s only one person." Her eyes remained fixed on Leon’s classroom in the distance. "I don’t believe he can fight against a dozen Disaster Class knights."
