I Carry a Game World With Me

Chapter 127 - 126: Unexpected

Chapter 127: Chapter 126: Unexpected

Guo Qi nodded at Teacher Hu’s words.

He had long been fed up with pretending to be close to Lin Nan, calling him brother.

He walked straight out of the office and secretly began to gather his men.

After Guo Qi left, Teacher Hu opened a hidden door in the wall and stepped inside.

Inside were rows of culture vats, filled with a green liquid and connected by a series of tubes.

Countless bubbles frothed from the other end of the tubes.

Within the vats were Hexagonal Beasts, their eyes closed.

Control devices were affixed to the heads of several Hexagonal Beasts.

In addition to the Hexagonal Beasts, several zombies were bound to the surrounding walls. Their limbs had been amputated, leaving only their heads and torsos.

These were powerful, mutated zombies that Guo Qi and his men had gone to great lengths to trap and capture.

All for the Hexagonal Beasts to control.

This way, the Hexagonal Beasts could control the mutated zombies, and through them, control even weaker ones.

Thus, in one corner of the secret room, other zombies were kept in iron cages, all for the sake of research.

Teacher Hu walked over to one of the vats. Staring at the Hexagonal Beast inside, he muttered to himself, "Perfect. One died, but another has just finished maturing. A perfect replacement."

With that, he walked over to a console and began to operate it.

But suddenly, he felt something was wrong.

CLICK.

He whipped his head around, his gaze falling in astonishment on the zombies in the iron cages. One of them had undone the latch on its cage. It had actually opened the latch.

"??" Teacher Hu was stunned.

’This isn’t right. How could a zombie do that?’

Just then, a series of cracking sounds echoed through the room.

One of the culture vats began to crack. The fissure spread rapidly before the glass shattered, sending green liquid gushing out. The Hexagonal Beast within snapped its eyes open.

One of its tentacles was already piercing the head of the Hexagonal Beast in the adjacent vat, while a tentacle from that beast was connected to the head of a mutated zombie.

The situation instantly became clear.

"When did this happen?" Teacher Hu’s expression changed dramatically. But in that same instant, the zombies lunged at him. He didn’t even have time to run.

Then, the horrific pain of being torn and bitten flooded his senses.

In that moment, he recalled a saying: ’When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.’

Attempting to control the power of a cataclysm means being consumed by it in turn.

...

Elsewhere in the base, Lin Nan, his wounds now treated, was in an office.

The office was large, a testament to Lin Nan’s status in the base.

He was, after all, one of the base’s founders. As its primary battle commander, his prestige within Red Leaf Base was immense.

He summoned a few of his trusted subordinates into the office.

"Boss Lin, you just finished treating your wounds. Are you calling us for another mission already?" one man asked as soon as he entered.

"Yeah, Brother Nan, you should be resting," another added.

Hearing his men’s words, Lin Nan frowned. "I’ve called you here because I have a task for you. On my last investigation, I made an unexpected discovery. The zombie frenzy around our base might be man-made. We need to investigate this lead."

His words stunned everyone present.

"Man-made?"

"How is that possible?"

"Yeah, can people really control zombies?"

"..."

As they were talking, someone rushed in and reported, "Boss Lin, there’s a situation on the 7th floor of the main building! Someone spotted a strange shadow, but several guards were killed. This could become a major crisis."

Lin Nan’s expression changed. He immediately motioned to the men in his office. "Let’s go. We’ll check it out. Maybe the mastermind behind this is about to show their face."

With that, he opened a cabinet, took out a special firearm, and walked out of the office bare-chested.

The men in the office were all Lin Nan’s trusted subordinates, and they naturally followed him out, heading for the 7th floor.

The 7th floor of the main building had a complex layout. It seemed to have originally been rented out as office space for small startups, divided into a maze of small, partitioned workrooms.

Lin Nan led his men to the 7th floor immediately and began a thorough investigation.

He had his men deliberately make noise, banging on surfaces. If there really was some strange creature here, it would surely be drawn out.

But after a good while, nothing strange appeared.

"Boss Lin, it seems whatever was reported isn’t here," one of his men said with a frown.

Lin Nan thought so too. But then, a sudden, deafening explosion rang out.

Nearby, flames erupted, unleashing a powerful shockwave.

It was followed by a second explosion, which produced an equally terrifying shockwave.

"Damn it." Lin Nan’s expression changed. He instantly realized someone was trying to kill him. The next moment, a terrifying shockwave slammed into him, sending him flying and tumbling across the ground.

Two of his trusted men were killed instantly in the blast.

The terrifying explosions immediately agitated the zombies outside, causing them to swarm frantically toward the base of the building.

Throughout Red Leaf Base, people turned to look toward the main building. Many guards were already running in that direction.

But when these guards reached the main building’s entrance, they found another team already standing guard. Seeing them approach, the leader shouted, "Our special operations team is handling the situation upstairs. No need to panic."

This made the guards halt in their tracks. The special operations team handled sensitive matters, and everyone was required to cooperate with them.

「Meanwhile」

Lu Feng had once again led his people to a position not far from Red Leaf Base. He was already looking at it through a pair of binoculars.

He had now pinpointed the base’s location. It was just behind the plaza with the three large trees, perfectly concealed by a building.

Lin Jiao was watching several survivors flee back toward Red Leaf Base.

These survivors were the ones Guo Qi had led. Because Lu Feng’s group had stolen their hovercar, they were returning much later.

By monitoring these survivors, Lu Feng’s group had found a way to get through the dense zombie horde and into Red Leaf Base.

It turned out there were two hidden paths through the horde: one underground, and one through the buildings above ground. These passages allowed for safe transit through the seemingly impassable swarm of zombies.

He had previously wondered how Guo Qi had managed to appear with so many people to reinforce Lin Nan, considering the entire area was overrun by a dense zombie horde.

Now he knew.

Suddenly, Lin Jiao noticed something was wrong. "Boss, look at the zombies. Something’s not right."

Lu Feng looked in the direction Lin Jiao was pointing and saw it too. Something was definitely wrong. The zombies were all moving in unison toward a single point: the Red Leaf Base.

And it wasn’t just them. Through his binoculars, Lu Feng could see that zombies from all the surrounding areas, as if summoned, were surging toward the Red Leaf Base.
