Chapter 128: Chapter 127: Astonished! Also a Participant
"Boss, all these zombies seem to be heading in the same direction," Lin Jiao said, pointing. "It looks like they’re going toward Red Leaf Base."
"Mm," Lu Feng acknowledged. He had noticed, of course.
But this realization stunned him.
This strange zombie movement was clearly the result of the Hexagonal Beast’s control.
’Could the people from Red Leaf Base be using the Hexagonal Beast to control these zombies?’
’But why would they be controlling the zombies right now?’
’Something isn’t right.’
’But there must be a reason for this.’
Thinking of this, Lu Feng said to Lin Jiao, "Lin Jiao, gather our people and wait for my signal. I have a feeling something has happened inside Red Leaf Base."
With that, Lu Feng leaped from the rooftop, simultaneously reaching out a hand to grab the wall.
Clad in his Mecha, his five fingers dug deep into the wall, gouging a long scar down its surface. This slowed his descent, allowing him to land safely on the ground.
Without hesitation, Lu Feng sprinted toward Red Leaf Base. He quickly scaled a building that was part of a route leading there.
It seemed that because the surrounding area was overrun with zombies, the people of Red Leaf Base had built a series of suspension bridge pathways between buildings. They were so well camouflaged that you’d never know a passage existed here without looking very carefully.
Lu Feng quickly crossed one suspension bridge and soon reached the next.
Below the bridges was a dense mass of zombies, their roars and the chaotic shuffle of their feet filling the air.
"Who’s there?!" a sharp voice called out.
This special passage built by Red Leaf Base was, naturally, guarded.
Lu Feng’s appearance had caught the guards’ attention. One of them shouted, and the other guards immediately raised their weapons.
But when they got a clear look at Lu Feng in his Mecha, their expressions changed instantly.
The next moment, several laser beams shot out, piercing straight through their bodies.
Against a weapon like a Mecha, these ordinary survivors didn’t even have the ability to resist.
Lu Feng continued forward and encountered another group of guards.
These guards also saw Lu Feng in his Mecha.
CLACK!
One of the guards almost instantly raised his gun high and knelt on the ground, signaling his surrender.
The sight even made Lu Feng pause for a second; he had been about to fire his laser.
The other guards were dumbfounded by this, but not knowing what else to do, they followed suit, raising their guns and kneeling.
The first guard to kneel was their squad leader. Because their squad leader had saved their lives several times before, they had great faith in him.
Lu Feng found this unexpected, but he wasn’t a bloodthirsty person. Seeing this, he simply dashed past them, ignoring the guards.
After Lu Feng left, the guards got up, still dazed, and asked their squad leader:
"Captain, why did you kneel?"
"Yeah, once you knelt, it felt wrong for us not to."
"Exactly, we stick together through thick and thin. If you kneel, we can only follow."
The squad leader, however, let out a deep sigh of relief. "Not kneel? Are you guys stupid? If I’m not mistaken, that was a Mecha. Before the apocalypse, I stumbled across some discussions about them online."
"A Mecha? The thing that guy was wearing?" one of them asked.
"What’s that?" another asked.
Clearly, these men had no idea what a Mecha was.
The squad leader frowned. "Go take a look up ahead, and you’ll know. The guards up there probably met a miserable end."
With that, he led the way forward, and the others followed.
The group soon saw the bodies of the previous team of guards. Each one had suffered a fatal wound to the chest, leaving a large, scorched hole where their heart should have been.
The squad leader crouched down and sighed. "These are laser wounds. If we hadn’t knelt just now, this would have been our fate. Our bullets can’t damage that Mecha’s armor."
At this, the other guards’ faces turned pale.
"Captain, you were right to kneel!"
"Yeah, Captain, you made the right call kneeling!"
"It’s all thanks to you kneeling so quickly, Captain!"
Seeing this, the squad leader said helplessly, "What’s with all this ’kneeling’? That was a tactical move to save our own hides. When you know you’re outmatched, are you supposed to just throw your life away??"
The guards naturally agreed, nodding along in unison.
But the squad leader frowned again. "Someone who has a Mecha is definitely no simple character. You have to understand, Mechas were top secret before the apocalypse. Most people didn’t even know they existed, let alone how to get one."
"Besides, after the apocalypse began, the world’s governments and elites all left on spaceships to find new worlds to live on. The number of people who would even know where to find a Mecha should be even smaller now."
This statement surprised the guards even more.
One of them asked, "Captain, how do you know so much?"
The question made the squad leader fall silent.
Because he had once been chosen to be one of the people to board the spaceships. But he stayed behind for the person he loved, because they didn’t qualify.
Only the absolute elite were allowed.
Unfortunately, his loved one didn’t survive in the end.
To be honest, he no longer knew what the point of his own survival even was.
...
Lu Feng had no idea what was happening behind him. He continued straight along the passage and soon encountered another group of guards.
But apparently, not all guards were as perceptive. This group raised their guns and fired at him, the bullets PINGING off his Mecha armor.
Seeing this, these guards were also dumbfounded.
But Lu Feng just fired a few laser beams, taking care of them directly.
He then reached the end of the passage and went straight up to the rooftop. From this position, he could finally see the main gate of Red Leaf Base, which was painted with a huge red leaf logo.
From this vantage point, he could also see the main building of Red Leaf Base. Outside it, a dense mass of zombies was crowded together, so tightly packed there were almost no gaps. The sight would make anyone with a fear of dense clusters faint on the spot.
But as Lu Feng looked at the swarming zombies, he felt something was wrong—very wrong. The scene felt familiar.
The surging horde of zombies looked remarkably similar to a scene from the anime *Zombie Rampage: Origins*.
Suddenly, he noticed movement on the main building’s rooftop. He quickly ducked behind a water tower.
Peeking his head out, he saw a shocking scene. A group of people had rushed out onto the rooftop, led by a shirtless Lin Nan, his torso wrapped in bandages.
The people with him were in bad shape as well; they were either covered in dust and looking disheveled, or they were also injured.
Seeing this, Lu Feng was even more astonished.
’How could this be?’
