I Just Wanted Friends, But My Summons Keep Eating the Bosses (ND)
Chapter 167: Lucy vs Demigod Goblin
Night then asked the others to inform him when they spotted another Goblin like that one.
Lucy picked out another Goblin at the back that felt strong.
She entered the shadows and came out from behind it with her maw wide open, ready to bite the Goblin in half. But the Goblin jumped away before she could land the attack.
The goblin stood a distance away and looked at Lucy calmly.
Lucy also didn’t do a follow up attack and kept only her head outside the shadows, eyeing the Goblin.
This Goblin had the stature of a human woman, but with green skin. She held a short sword in her hand.
Lucy noticed this Goblin was distinctly different from the rest; there was no madness in her eyes, nor was there any sign that she was being affected by Vivianne’s skills.
Lucy shared this observation with Night. She felt there was a high chance this was a Demigod in disguise.
Night immediately checked with his Nightmare Domain, and sure enough, it was a Demigod. Even though the Goblin tried to hide its aura, it couldn’t fool his Domain.
Night informed her and got ready to fight. Just in case things got out of hand, he decided to inform Minerva.
”Tsk, I don’t have a way to contact her,” Night frowned.
This forced him to act immediately.
He also focused on the battlefield, trying to spot only the Goblins that weren’t affected by Vivianne’s skills. Sure enough, he found four more.
Night sucked in a breath, thinking, Good thing Lucy’s instincts are as sharp as ever, otherwise I would have missed something so obvious.
It wasn’t that Night had gotten careless; it was just that these Goblins didn’t feel much stronger than the rest to him, so he had simply assumed everyone in the horde was in the Mortal Realm.
’Maybe they just became Demigods?’
‘I have been encountering Demigods that are ridiculously strong, so maybe I just assumed all of them would be like that.’
‘I didn’t stop to think that there might be weaker Demigods or Demigods that are lower leveled, like around level 110 or 120.’
But then Night paused. Even if I didn’t notice… what about Minerva? She should have known…
Sensing something fishy, he asked Vivianne and Sara to deal with two of them, while he summoned two clones of equal strength and sent them toward the other two.
As for the one facing Lucy, he decided to handle it himself.
…
The Goblin bent her knees and dashed at Lucy. Her speed was so incredible that she reached Lucy in an instant. Lucy barely dodged by retreating back into the shadows.
The Goblin’s short sword glowed green as she attacked the shadow, literally splitting the shadow in half.
Some distance away, Lucy reappeared. There was a huge cut on her back, and blood leaked from it, only to fall onto her shadow and disappear.
The short sword had managed to damage her though the shadow.
The wound on her back hurt, but she didn’t make a sound.
Her attention was fully focused on the Goblin, who was already charging toward her again. Lucy covered her paw in concentrated Nightmare Mist and blocked the short sword.
For a second, Nightmare Mist looked like it would split, but in the end, it held strong, surprising the Goblin and bringing relief to Lucy.
The Goblin then pulled her short sword back. Her free hand glowed green, and thick roots sprouted from the ground, locking Lucy in place.
The Nightmare Mist burned the roots, but they kept regenerating and multiplying. The Goblin then slashed again, angling the blade in a way to behead Lucy. This time, she used some kind of skill that made the short sword vibrate like a chainsaw.
Just before the blade reached her neck, Lucy tilted her head, and the short sword got stuck between her massive teeth.
At the exact same time, blackish-purple, shadow-like flames began gathering in her mouth.
Lucy was using Nighmare Fire from her mouth.
The Goblin’s pupils constricted as she tried to pull her short sword back, but Lucy’s jaw strength seemed out of this world locking the short sword in place.
She could only give up her weapon and jump back. It was a good thing she did. The fire shot out from Lucy’s mouth like a laser. Wherever the beam passed, the trees, the ground, and even the clouds in the sky were split apart.
Seeing the attack was over, the Goblin pulled out a new short sword and charged again like a mad dog.
Feeling the roots around her finally loosen, Lucy escaped using the shadows. She reappeared from the shadow of a tiny leaf at the very top of a tree.
The Goblin changed direction and reached Lucy as if she had an auto-aim skill, slashing with her short sword yet again.
Lucy, who had now somewhat understood her own limits and strength, used her claws to parry the slash and returned a heavy strike of her own.
The Goblin dodged with minimal movements, turned her other hand into a fist, and punched. The fist glowed red like a bomb. Lucy’s instincts screamed at her, so she immediately used the shadows to escape just before the fist reached her.
Boom!
Everything within a hundred meters evaporated instantly when the Goblin’s fist detonated.
The Goblin turned and dashed toward Lucy again, but this time Lucy focused on escaping. She kept teleporting to the farthest shadows she could sense, and the Goblin relentlessly chased after her, keeping up with ease.
After pulling some distance away from the main battlefield, Lucy stopped in a clearing. The Goblin reached her and attacked without a single pause.
The shadows in the surrounding deepened as Lucy disappeared, but this time, without entering a shadow.
The Goblin paused and looked at her surroundings. Her eyes shone with a green light using some ocular skill as she tried to find her target, but Lucy had vanished as if she had simply ceased to exist.
After looking around for some time, the Goblin gave up. Because she couldn’t sense Lucy anywhere, she assumed the wolf had teleported completely out of range using some spatial skill.
Just when the Goblin was about to turn and leave, she felt a sharp pain in her neck. She looked down, only to see that the body below her head was completely gone.
Her eyes widened in confusion as life leave her.
During the last moment of her life finally saw her surroundings change, she saw she was actually standing in the middle of a huge array, and a massive wolf-like creature was looking down at her with pure hunger. In the wolf’s mouth, she could see her own lower body.
That was the very last thing she saw before she died.
She, a Demigod, had died to a mortal just like that.
As for regenerating her body? Even though she was a Demigod, she was a normal demigod, she was not a freak monster like Alze-Beus who could regenerate himself even after being crushed to a paste.
Night appeared beside Lucy just as she finished the job by eating the head too.
Night smiled. “Congratulations. You are the first among us to kill a Demigod solo.”
”Nom, nom, nom… Didn’t… nom, nom… you kill those Werewolves… nom… before? nom, nom,” Lucy mumbled as her size reduced until she was about as big as an SUV.
Night shook his head. “They were suppressed to mortal realm, so it doesn’t count.”
Night had actually already arrived the moment the fight began. He had been hiding, preparing to do a sneak attack and kill the enemy in one strike, but Lucy had managed to pull the Goblin away and even set up an illusion array on the fly.
The Goblin had already fallen prey to the illusion the moment it stepped into the clearing in the forest.
The illusion array was the reason the Goblin had seen Lucy disappear suddenly without reason. After she fell into the illusion, she was just dead meat standing.
Sure, the Goblin could have awakened from it due to pure will or raw instinct, but this was not a shonen anime. Ridiculous things like that rarely happened in reality.
Just when Lucy was feeling proud of killing an enemy sixty levels above her, Night smirked and said, “I think this Goblin had the Life aspect as well.”
Lucy suddenly stopped chewing and desperately tried to spit out the corpse, but nothing came out.
She looked at Night and gulped with an embarrassed expression. In the heat of the moment, she had given in to her instincts.
Night shook his head and patted her leg gently. “You eating them also works the same as devouring; it’s just a bit less efficient in terms of extracting records. So it’s okay.”
”Sorry, I’ll be more careful next time,” Lucy whined.
”As I said, it’s okay,” Night reassured her. “If you try to be too careful, maybe next time the enemy might end up escaping or worse turn the tides against you. At least this way we receive something out of it.”
”Yes, but still, this only means I have to improve so next time I am more efficient,” Lucy declared.
She then dispersed the array. The materials used to create it and the array flags flew toward her, and she smoothly stored them away in her shadows.
Night looked at this and thought, Her shadow allows her to set up an array in a mere moment. No wonder the Goblin didn’t notice a thing.
The only thing she had to make sure of was that the surrounding area actually had enough shadows to use.
Night then returned to his floating throne, while Lucy returned to the battlefield.
…
While Lucy and the Goblin were fighting, Sara and Vivianne had rushed toward where Night said the other Demigods were located.
But they were blocked by a massive horde of Goblins.
Vivianne cracked her neck. Her body was still stiff, but she could at least move freely now.
Looking at the horde, Vivianne’s eyes glowed, and all the blood that had been accumulating in the surroundings rapidly flowed toward her.
The blood morphed into hundreds of blood spears and rained down on the Goblins like a vicious storm. The attack would have completely wiped them out, but suddenly, a huge water barrier appeared in front of the spears, blocking the strike.
The blood spears crumbled due to the impact and slid down the barrier like rain on a windshield.
Sara and Vivianne looked at the Goblin wielding a wooden staff at the back of the horde, who had blocked the attack effortlessly.
Beside that Goblin, they saw a muscular Goblin that looked more like a giant. It was ten feet tall, had four arms, and was wielding massive butcher knives in each hand that matched its absurd size.
”I guess we found the Demigods,” Sara said.
Vivianne wanted to nod in response, but her stiff neck suddenly went on strike, so she just ended up saying, “Yes.”
