Chapter 587: Chapter 587: It’s Not That I Dislike Kids, I Just Like You More

Adrian Quincy nodded, but his face was devoid of any happiness.

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "Your expression makes it obvious you don’t want me to be pregnant."

Adrian Quincy hummed in agreement, making no attempt to deny it.

Claire Sinclair sat up straight and mumbled under her breath, "If you dislike children so much, then I don’t want one anymore."

The hurt in her voice was heartbreaking.

Adrian Quincy wrapped his arms around her from behind and said softly, "Claire, it’s not that I dislike children. It’s just that I love you more."

Claire Sinclair covered her ears, unwilling to listen.

She had been so looking forward to having a child, but his cold reaction crushed all her excitement.

Adrian Quincy pulled her hands away from her ears and added, "I’ll be honest. If you were pregnant, I would feel a bit disappointed. That’s all it is. It doesn’t mean I don’t want the child."

Claire finally lifted her head to meet his gaze. "I really want a baby. I don’t want to lose one again. If I am pregnant, I hope you’ll love and protect our baby as much as you love me. I’m scared I can’t protect him all by myself. I..."

"Claire," Adrian Quincy interrupted softly, pulling her into a gentle embrace. "Trust me. We won’t lose another one."

Claire slowly lowered her head. She was just still haunted by lingering fear.

"I’m a little scared."

"Claire, I was wrong." Adrian Quincy moved in front of her and knelt on one knee. Taking her small hands in his, he looked up at her. "I was being too selfish, only thinking about being happy with you without considering what you wanted. I just want to tell you that if you’re pregnant, I’ll be just as happy as you are, and I’ll be just as excited for the baby to be born."

"Really?" Claire was touched by his words.

Adrian Quincy squeezed her hands a little tighter. "How could I not love my own child? Claire, I love everything about you more than I love myself."

Hearing the growing vulnerability in his voice, Claire’s heart ached for him. She quickly tried to stop him. "Alright, don’t kneel anymore. You’re acting like you did something wrong. Get up, quickly."

"Are you not angry anymore?" Adrian Quincy didn’t get up immediately.

Claire pulled at his arm. "I wasn’t angry. I was just dwelling on it a little, but I’m fine now. Just get up first."

Adrian Quincy rose gracefully, his expression composed. "I have to go meet a friend in a little while. You should stay here at the hotel and rest. It’s too hot during the day. If there’s anywhere you want to go, we can go tonight. I’ll take you out later."

"Okay! Then come back soon!"

Adrian Quincy nodded, glancing at the watch on her wrist. "It’s about time for me to head out. You be good, okay?"

Claire gazed into his eyes, full of reluctance to see him go. She wished she could go with him.

Adrian Quincy couldn’t bear it, but this was something he couldn’t be soft on. He said in a low, serious voice, "It’s too hot outside, and where I’m going is even hotter. You’ll get heatstroke after just ten minutes in the sun."

Claire immediately shot back, "I’m not that delicate!"

"Claire, I might have to stand outside for more than two hours."

"Alright, fine..." Claire relented. "Come back soon. I miss you already."

A sharp pang of pain shot through Adrian Quincy’s heart. He knew how insecure she felt at that moment, yet he couldn’t stay by her side.

In the end, Adrian Quincy left, taking Aiden Howkins with him.

He had barely walked out the door when Helen Wallace burst in, covered in sweat and panting. "Claire, I got the things you wanted! I bought two, so use them sparingly. Remember to pay me back! I gotta run—Adrian isn’t waiting for me..."
