Chapter 313: Chapter 313: The Sweep

The arena held its breath.

Kael had barely reached his dugout when the Stone Heart Sect captain barked orders. Panic laced his voice.

Three disciples vaulted over the barrier.

They landed in staggered formation, their feet hitting the stone in rapid succession. The first one threw his hands forward. A volley of stone javelins materialized in the air and shot toward Kael like artillery shells.

The second disciple slammed his palms into the ground. Fissures raced across the arena floor, splitting the stone apart as they charged toward Kael.

The third disciple followed up with a boulder the size of a carriage, hurling it through the air with a roar.

Three attacks. Coordinated. Overlapping.

Kael didn’t stop walking.

He glided forward, his feet barely touching the ground, his body moving like smoke through fingers.

The stone javelins, sharp-tipped and dense with earth energy, entered the one-meter radius that surrounded him like an invisible wall. And in an instant, they turned to fine, grey dust.

Not shattered into fragments. Not deflected off course.

Dust. Pure, lifeless dust.

The grey particles scattered in the wind like ash from a funeral pyre, swirling and dancing before settling on the broken stone.

The fissures, jagged and hungry, reached his feet, splitting the ground with a deep, grinding roar.

The stone beneath him crumbled, but Kael stepped onto the broken pieces as if they were solid ground.

The earth energy that made up the attack decayed on contact with his spiritual aura, dissolving into nothing before it could touch his skin.

The carriage-sized boulder came last.

It tore through the air with a grinding roar, its surface crackling with brown spiritual light, casting a shadow that swallowed the arena floor.

Kael raised one hand.

Palm open.

Fingers relaxed.

The boulder met the invisible barrier—the one-meter radius of absolute decay that surrounded him like a shroud of death.

And it didn’t just shatter.

It dissolved.

The stone crumbled from the outside in, layers peeling away like skin from rotting fruit, each fragment turning to fine grey dust before it could fall.

The core of the boulder, dense and reinforced with earth energy, lasted a fraction of a second longer before it too succumbed.

A cloud of grey powder rained down around Kael like fine snow, settling on his shoulders, dusting his dark hair, coating the broken stone at his feet.

The three disciples froze.

Their eyes went wide.

Their mouths opened, but no words came out.

The first disciple’s hands trembled. The second disciple’s face drained of color. The third disciple just stared, his mind refusing to process what he had just witnessed.

They had thrown everything they had at him.

And he had walked through it.

Kael moved.

Not with speed. Not with violence.

He simply stepped forward, his body flowing like water, his feet barely disturbing the dust beneath them.

He didn’t dash or blur. He simply stepped forward, and in the space between one heartbeat and the next, he was in front of the first disciple.

His palm tapped the disciple’s lower abdomen.

Once.

The disciple’s eyes rolled back in his head. His cultivation channels visibly rotted, black veins spreading across his skin like cracks in old stone. He collapsed without a sound.

Kael turned.

The second disciple tried to retreat, but Kael’s palm found his dantian node. The same black veins spread across his body. He dropped to his knees, then face-first onto the stone.

The third disciple tried to attack.

Kael tapped his chest.

The disciple’s arms went limp. His cultivation collapsed inward. He fell forward, unconscious before he hit the ground.

The fourth disciple tried to run.

He made it three steps before Kael’s palm touched his back.

He crumpled like paper.

Four bodies lay on the arena floor, their cultivation channels rotting, their spiritual energy leaking out of them like water from a cracked vase.

The crowd was silent.

Not a single cheer.

Not a single whisper.

Just the sound of stone settling and the ragged breathing of the fallen.

The Stone Heart captain stepped onto the arena.

He was a big man. Broad shoulders. A face carved by years of combat. Scars traced his jawline like old riverbeds. His knuckles were thick, calloused from decades of gripping weapons and forming seals.

He walked to the center of the arena, his eyes fixed on Kael.

Each step was measured. Careful. The careful gait of a man who had survived countless battles by reading his opponents before they moved.

Kael turned to face him.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Like a corpse rising from its grave.

Their eyes met.

The captain stopped walking.

He stared into Kael’s eyes.

Dead. Ash-grey. Empty.

Like looking into the void itself.

The captain’s breath caught. His heart stuttered. He had faced demon beasts. He had fought cultivators two realms above him. He had bled on a dozen battlefields.

But he had never seen eyes like these.

No killing intent. No malice. No hatred.

Just nothing.

Absolute, consuming nothing.

The kind of nothing that made a man question whether he had ever truly existed at all.

The captain’s hand trembled. His cultivation wavered. The entropic pressure hit him like a physical weight, and he felt his own spiritual energy begin to rot inside his dantian.

He didn’t draw his weapon.

He didn’t raise his guard.

He reached into his robe, pulled out his sect token, and tossed it onto the stone floor.

"We yield."

"We yield."

The words echoed through the silent arena.

Grand Marshal Vane’s voice cut through the stillness.

"Stone Heart Sect eliminated. Nameless Sect advances to the Top 16."

Kael turned away from the captain.

He walked toward the exit, his footsteps the only sound in the entire coliseum.

Halfway there, he stopped.

His head turned.

His dead, ash-grey eyes lifted toward the Azure Dragon bench.

They locked onto Damon.

Damon felt the weight of that gaze like a physical blow.

Kael’s lips moved.

One word.

Silent.

But unmistakable.

"Devourer."
