Investing in My Wife: But She's Already the Strongest!
Chapter 55: Eva’s Mother
"Uncle, choose your seat," Zara said.
Overall, there were only eight rows of seats, whether counted from side to side or from bottom to top.
For the sake of maintaining his image, Enzo casually walked up to the highest row, which happened to still be empty. Dilan and the blonde-haired woman were in the third row, while the vice mayor and the other middle-aged man were in the seventh row.
He sat in the very center of the top row, immediately becoming the center of attention not only for those four people, but for everyone throughout the entire colosseum.
"Uncle, your cigarette..." Rosa suddenly handed him a cigarette with a smile that seemed to hide a special meaning.
Enzo wanted to take a deep breath.
In the end, he took the cigarette and put it between his lips.
He was not a smoker, but it was not as though he had never smoked before.
For now, there was no other choice if he wanted to avoid looking so awkward.
It really was different.
Compared to going to university, a place like this, where elites gathered, carried its own pressure. Especially when he came here with the identity of Miya Stanley’s husband.
Buzz!
Suddenly, Zara lit a lighter and held the flame beneath the tip of his cigarette.
"Uncle, you need to relax. You have the two of us here," she said softly.
At this point, Enzo could not help but look at the two young women differently than before.
’Even Liam Stanley doesn’t seem to be as good as these two at reading a situation.’
He took a drag from the cigarette and exhaled the smoke.
"How does this place work?" Enzo asked, glancing back and forth between Rosa and Zara.
Everything he had heard so far was merely rumors.
"This place is actually for imprisoned cultivators. Basically, two of them will fight," Rosa answered. "The fight doesn’t stop until one of them dies. It’s a voluntary battle because the colosseum offers a huge reward to the winner."
"Uncle, you might not know this, but the fights are broadcast live and can be watched globally by those who have access. I’ve only ever watched through live streams. Rosa is the only one who has actually been here once with her father. The fights are truly incredible because everyone who participates has extremely fierce combat abilities," Zara added.
"If someone appears exceptionally outstanding, they might be recruited by a certain elite figure and given resources to develop further. Prisoners who commit heinous crimes are generally imprisoned for life, so this is practically their only chance," Rosa added.
At the same time, a waiter came over with a tray carrying three glasses of mango juice and handed one to each of them.
Smoking while drinking really was more enjoyable.
But Enzo was still filled with curiosity about the black sword symbol.
When he glanced at the back of the blonde-haired woman’s head, he suddenly remembered where he had seen her before.
’The university. Parents’ visitation day.’
This woman was actually Eva’s mother.
Enzo finally remembered.
Now that he recalled it, he found the situation rather strange.
In fact, he had already thought it was strange from the beginning that a young man was sitting beside a woman whose daughter was only one year younger than him.
Apparently, Alex and his elite friends had also made their way into the colosseum.
They had clearly managed to heal themselves, though not completely, as they were still limping.
"Young Master, the son of the Governor of the Southeast American State has arrived," a security guard suddenly approached Dilan and reported.
Hearing that, Dilan nodded and immediately stood up.
"I’ll go welcome him first. That guy is rather petty. He could cause trouble if he thinks he hasn’t been given enough of a welcome," he said to the blonde-haired woman, Gracie Torres.
The latter smiled as she replied, "Go ahead. Just make sure nothing happens that could interfere with our business."
"Don’t worry. Nothing will happen."
Dilan continued speaking for a moment before leaving.
The vice mayor and his companion also left, apparently following Dilan.
After they left, the woman immediately looked toward Enzo while maintaining her smile.
"Do you remember me, Enzo Muller?" she asked.
"You’re the mother of my classmate, Eva Molace," Enzo replied.
"That’s right. Hahaha, I thought you might have forgotten. How is Eva? Is she doing a good job?" the woman asked again.
Enzo found the conversation rather strange.
But he nodded.
"Yeah, she’s doing a good job," he said.
Eva really was doing a good job, so there was nothing wrong with admitting it.
He was not petty enough to say otherwise and risk having her mother scold her.
"That’s good to hear. I’ll keep messaging her and telling her to do her job properly. If she makes any mistakes, I hope you’ll be willing to forgive her, or at least just fire her without punishing her," the woman said jokingly.
Enzo simply smiled and did not continue responding.
Of course, he would first see what kind of mistake it was. If it was merely a work-related mistake, that would be fine. But if it was an act of defiance against him, how could simply firing her be enough?
At the entrance, he saw Dilan returning, walking side by side with a curly-haired young man who was holding hands with a beautiful red-haired woman. An arrogant smile was clearly visible on his face.
He wore a shirt with the top buttons undone down to his chest, earrings in his ears, and a chain necklace around his neck.
While one hand held the woman’s hand, his other hand held a long cigar that produced thick smoke.
Enzo was surprised that the governor’s son was so young. After all, the governor himself was already old.
Even more surprising was his flashy appearance, which was completely different from the governor, who always dressed simply.
When Alex saw him, he suddenly became excited and immediately approached him.
