Chapter 102: Chapter 10: Werewolf

Seeing Feng Yin advancing instead of retreating, the werewolf’s expression immediately turned bloodthirsty and hideous.

He let out a furious, low growl. Repeating his previous trick, he swung his sharp claws in an almost clairvoyant manner, attempting to swat away the Canfeng Sword.

This time, the moment the claws touched the sword spine, Feng Yin did not compete with him in changing moves. Instead, he maintained his explosive burst of strength. The Canfeng Sword was only slightly deflected by the werewolf’s swat, but it still maintained its basic trajectory!

The werewolf’s eyes drastically changed, and he barely managed a hasty retreat.

SLASH!

Blood splattered! The sword’s edge sliced through the tough fur, leaving behind a gruesome wound!

"ROAR!"

The werewolf, Gascogne, roared in pain. The extremely arrogant attitude he had at the start was abruptly overturned. Meanwhile, Feng Yin’s next sword strike was already slashing backhand!

The werewolf saw it clearly but did not dare to face its sharp edge again. He rapidly retreated. However, against Feng Yin’s Canfeng Sword, which was over a meter long, he was still a step too slow!

SLASH!

The tip of the sword once again swept across his chest and abdomen. A second bloody gash was exposed. The two bloody cuts crossed each other like a mark of death.

The next moment, the heavy sword, weighing nearly twenty pounds, was continuously swung by Feng Yin with gale-like speed. He paid absolutely no attention to any techniques or feints, acting like a wild beast as he chopped the sharp blade toward the monster opposite him. Inhuman martial prowess, a frenzied wild beast!

Under such combat tactics, the werewolf fell directly into the same predicament as the ghost Feng Yin had instantly slain last time. He could only dodge, dodge, and dodge again. The only area where the werewolf was luckier than the ghost was that this roof was an open space, giving him plenty of room to evade.

Amidst this endless evasion, alongside his anger and panic, the werewolf couldn’t figure out one thing no matter how hard he tried. He thought, "This person opposite me clearly doesn’t have the Pre-read Ability, but why are his strength and speed so astonishing? Is he a top-tier Adjuster?

"It doesn’t seem like it. Celestial Essence Country was founded on martial prowess. Even if they used Adjuster technology, they would definitely strictly control the movements of Adjusters. How could they let an Adjuster roam freely in society?

"The armor on this person’s body doesn’t look like an exoskeleton battle suit either. Could it be Celestial Essence Country’s legendary special Enhanced Clothing? Isn’t that technology still in its classified military phase? Moreover, why would that technology be given to someone without the See Through ability? Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!"

The more the werewolf thought about it, the more anxious he became. Right at that moment, he dodged to the wall of a watchtower and caught sight of a fire hose cabinet. His eyes lit up. He immediately grabbed nearby debris and hurled it at Feng Yin, while simultaneously thrusting out a hand, shattering the cabinet’s glass with a punch, and grabbing the long handle of the fire axe inside!

Feng Yin shattered the debris with a single sword strike. The next moment, amidst a terrifying roar, the werewolf gripped the long handle and furiously chopped the red-painted axe blade down at Feng Yin.

"Did you think you were the only one with a weapon?" the werewolf thought, a hideous smile exposing his canine teeth. "Earlier was just my momentary carelessness. Now that I have a weapon, my strength and speed are not inferior to yours, and I even have the Pre-read Ability that you lack. Your only remaining advantage is this armor..."

Feng Yin’s eyes flashed within the shadows. The moment one believed they had secured victory was the easiest time for them to be defeated. He made a show of raising his sword to block upwards.

The following instant, the werewolf’s axe fiercely cleaved down.

SLASH!

With one swing of the axe, he cleaved Feng Yin in half!

But the physical sensation was wrong! Looking at the bizarre afterimage before him, the werewolf’s heart jolted.

WHOOSH!

An astonishing sense of crisis rang through his mind as a swift wind approached from behind.

"ROAR!"

The werewolf roared while simultaneously gripping the axe with both hands and slashing backwards. If it was too late to dodge, he would attack what the enemy had to defend!

CLANG!

The axe blade was perfectly parried by the heavy arm armor on Feng Yin’s left hand. It was the perfect block brought about by the Owl Dance traits.

Amidst the block, under the werewolf’s despairing gaze, the Canfeng Sword had long since plunged into his chest, following Feng Yin’s dash forward.

SHUNK!

A large section of the sword tip pierced out from the werewolf’s back!

"ROAR!" The werewolf’s entire body trembled violently as he raised a hand and swatted at Feng Yin’s head.

However, Feng Yin twisted the sword hilt with a sinister smile, instantly mangling the werewolf’s heart and lungs on the spot! The werewolf’s sharp claws went limp, losing most of their power by the time they landed on Feng Yin’s helmet.

[Durability: 18/19 -> 16/19]

Feng Yin cleanly withdrew his sword and stepped back. He quietly watched as the werewolf dropped to his knees, then coughed up large pools of blood. The black fur covering the werewolf’s body showed signs of retracting, but before it could finish, he collapsed face-first onto the ground. He completely lost all signs of life.

Feng Yin walked forward, inverted the edge of his sword, and drove it into the back of the motionless werewolf’s head. Then, he pulled the sword back out. Now, he could confirm that it was dead without a doubt.

He was just about to leave when he saw a spectral light rise from the werewolf’s body and dart toward his waist. Hanging in that exact spot was his most recently acquired valuable item—the Moon Treasure Bottle.

Feng Yin paused slightly, watching as the spectral light burrowed into the treasure bottle.

[Elite monster killed. Gained Essence of the Moon x1]

Feng Yin’s eyes flickered, and he quickly let out a laugh, amazed that this real-life werewolf could actually be subjected to judgment as an "elite monster." He checked the storage of the Moon Treasure Bottle; it now held two Essences of the Moon. One was the innate essence it had when he acquired the Moon Treasure Bottle, and the other was the one he had just obtained.

There was no need to deliberately save this thing. He would use it right away. As the thought crossed his mind, he directly reached out and took down the Moon Treasure Bottle, which clung to his waist like a magnet, and brought it to his lips, adopting a drinking posture.

This was the action prescribed by the "game" for using the Moon Treasure Bottle, and at this moment, it seemed to have become a mandatory action. This also meant that it was highly improbable to use it for recovery in the middle of a fierce battle.

He took two consecutive swigs.

[Secret Energy: 0/19 -> 10/19]

After finishing the drink, the dark green light inside the Moon Treasure Bottle vanished. Feng Yin took one last look at the werewolf’s corpse, turned around, and jumped off the roof.

A few minutes later, Feng Yin returned to the bottom of the apartment building.

Looking at the barricades already set up by the security personnel and the faint bloodstains at the front desk within them, he let out a helpless sigh. Feng Yin walked to the side, borrowed a phone from a bystander watching the commotion, and dialed Xie Jingyuan’s number.

Even though it was late at night, the call was still answered quickly, and Xie Jingyuan’s calm voice came through: "Hello?"

"Master, it’s me, Feng Yin," Feng Yin replied.

Xie Jingyuan asked, "Hmm? It’s so late, and you’re using an unfamiliar number. Did something happen?"

Feng Yin took a deep breath and recounted the narrative he had prepared. The general gist was that he heard a knock on the door while sleeping, noticed the werewolf’s bizarre features, and immediately jumped out the window, leaving the apartment building from the outside...

Xie Jingyuan instantly grew tense. He instructed Feng Yin to stay put and not wander off, saying he would come to pick him up right away.

More than ten minutes later, Feng Yin met with the hurrying Xie Jingyuan.

Xie Jingyuan reached out, patting his shoulder. "Are you hurt?"

Feng Yin gently shook his head. "No... Master, I just climbed down the outer wall. It wasn’t very difficult..."

Xie Jingyuan nodded. With physical attributes equivalent to a four-person level, it was indeed impossible for Feng Yin to have an accident during such wall-climbing. What he was actually worried about was Feng Yin getting injured from fighting an enemy, so he asked again, "So, you really didn’t engage in combat with that strange man?"

Feng Yin shook his head. "I saw from inside the door that hair suddenly started growing all over his body. I felt something was wrong, so I ran away immediately." Then, he curiously turned the question on Xie Jingyuan, "Master... what was that? A monster?"

Xie Jingyuan pondered slightly, then slowly shook his head. "I haven’t seen it yet, so it’s hard to say. It might be a monster, or it might be some kind of illegal Adjuster."

Feng Yin’s heart skipped a beat. He had intentionally asked the question, as he himself suspected that the werewolf was highly likely an artificial creation like an Adjuster. However, Xie Jingyuan’s words clearly revealed unusual information.

In Xie Jingyuan’s words, it was obvious that he did not view Adjusters as monsters. But by the same token, he also did not deny the existence of "monsters." From this, it could be perfectly deduced that there were genuine entities in this world that even an expert like his master considered to be "monsters"! And his master had clearly witnessed real monsters before!

So, what exactly were the monsters Xie Jingyuan spoke of? How formidable were they? Were there many of them? Did they pose a threat to human civilization?

Xie Jingyuan obviously didn’t know that Feng Yin had thought so much. He simply led Feng Yin outside the sealing perimeter at the bottom of the apartment building and presented an ID to a Sheriff who had come forward to question them.

The moment the Sheriff saw the contents of the ID, he subconsciously stood up straight and saluted with a respectful face. "It’s a superior from the Demon Extermination Association. How can I help you?"

Xie Jingyuan’s expression was calm. "Please inform us of the situation."
