Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 478: Sarcasm
With tears in her eyes, Sharon Sutton said, "I’m fine."
She hadn’t expected Nathan Fawcett to have such a strong reaction.
Ian looked at her and said, "Don’t cry, Auntie."
He knew Anne was very good to Sharon.
Since his dad had made his aunt cry, he naturally wanted to help his mom comfort her.
When Anne came back from the restroom, she couldn’t find Sharon. After searching for a bit, she found them shopping.
She walked over and saw Sharon in tears with Ian trying to comfort her. She approached them and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Ian glanced at Anne and said, "Dad pushed Auntie over."
Anne looked at Nathan Fawcett, confused.
With a dark expression, Nathan Fawcett took the water bottle Sharon had just drunk from and threw it straight into the trash can before walking away.
When Finn saw Nathan leaving, he followed him.
Anne had no idea what was going on.
’I was only gone for a moment.’
She looked at Sharon and asked, "What’s wrong? What happened?"
"It’s nothing," Sharon said. "Maybe I’m just an unlikable person! I’m sorry, Anne, I want to go home."
Anne said, "We’re about to leave anyway. We can go together."
"No," Sharon said. "I’m leaving now."
With that, she ran off.
Anne took Ian back to where they were before and saw Nathan standing there, holding the drink he had just bought for her.
Finn was holding his hand. "Dad, are you okay? That lady is really annoying, isn’t she? I don’t like her either."
"..." Hearing Finn bad-mouth Sharon, Anne felt a vein throb in her forehead.
She walked over, glanced at Nathan, then at Finn. "What did you just say?"
Seeing the serious look on Anne’s face, Finn quickly shut his mouth.
Anne looked at Nathan and asked, "What happened?"
Sharon wouldn’t say, so Anne was still in the dark.
Nathan looked at her, seeing her concerned expression for Sharon. He recalled the recent incident. ’I wonder if Sharon did that on purpose.’
’But in my eyes, everything she does is deliberate!’
’I’m her brother-in-law!’
’She wasn’t like this back at the shop.’
’So she’s deliberately acting this way today just because Anne wasn’t around?’
’Anne dotes on her sister. I wonder what she would think if she knew what was going through her sister’s mind.’
Nathan said, "It’s nothing."
Seeing that he wasn’t going to tell her anything, Anne said, "Sharon just left. She seemed really upset. And Ian said you pushed her? What happened?"
She didn’t believe something like this would happen for no reason.
But with how things had turned out, Anne was completely baffled.
She just wanted to get an answer out of Nathan.
"It was nothing," Nathan said.
Anne looked at him and said, "This is what I hate most about you—this habit of never saying what’s on your mind. It’s so frustrating!"
’I’m standing here asking him, and he refuses to say a word. It’s infuriating!’
Nathan looked at her unhappy expression, unsure of what to say.
Anne said, "You take the two kids and play. I’m going to go check on Sharon. Ian, you stay with your dad!"
At this, Anne glanced at Finn and said, "And you, young man, don’t talk about people behind their backs."
She was naturally unhappy that he had spoken about Sharon that way.
’He’s still a child, but he needs to be taught better.’
Nathan heard her and looked at her. "Why are you going after her? Your sister isn’t a child."
"It’s a long way from here. I’m worried she won’t be able to get a ride."
Nathan said, "Fine, do what you want."
He was in a terrible mood himself.
He had started to feel sorry for Sharon recently, and his impression of her had improved.
But with that one move, his opinion of her had plummeted to rock bottom.
Anne left the amusement park and saw Sharon by the side of the road, trying to hail a cab. It was true that it was hard to get one here; most people who came to the park drove their own cars.
Anne looked at her. "Any luck getting a ride?"
Sharon said, "What are you doing here?"
"I saw you run off by yourself. Of course I wasn’t going to just leave you." Anne said, "Nathan’s just like that. You two probably just had a misunderstanding. He doesn’t mean any harm, so don’t take it to heart."
Remembering Nathan’s reaction, Sharon looked at Anne and asked, "Anne, do you like Nathan Fawcett?"
Hearing Sharon bring this up, Anne said, "Why do you ask?"
She knew Sharon was in a bad place after her recent divorce, so she didn’t feel like discussing her own relationship with Nathan in front of her.
Sharon said, "If you don’t like him, why are you living with the Linden Family?"
"..." Anne said, "Ian lives there."
"Is it because of your son?" Sharon said. "You’ve already rejected him and don’t plan to marry him, but as long as you’re living with the Linden Family, he can’t be with anyone else, can he?"
Seeing Sharon suddenly concerned about her affairs, Anne gave a small smile. "Nathan likes being with me. He’s happy when I’m around. As for whether he wants to be with someone else, that’s his business. If he gets tired of me one day, he’ll tell me. Or, even if he doesn’t, I’ll be able to tell."
Hearing Anne’s words, Sharon realized how confident she was.
She smiled. "I really envy you. You can sleep and eat with a man you don’t even like. Nathan is so rich now. Even if you don’t like him, you can still get plenty of benefits by being with him. How nice."
"..." Anne looked at Sharon. Her words made her a little uncomfortable.
Anne said, "If something happened between you and him, you can tell me directly. If he bullied you, I can go stand up for you. You don’t need to say things like this here. Do you want me to leave him? Would that make you happy?"
Seeing that Anne was angry, Sharon said, "That’s not what I meant. It’s just... I miss you! I want you to be with Mom and me every day. Mom said that back in Veridia, you and her lived together. But ever since I came here, you’ve barely been around. You only come to see us for a little while on the weekends. Anne, the three of us are the real family, aren’t we?"
Seeing how insecure she looked, Anne said, "You miss me? In that case, I’ll come back and stay with you guys for a couple of days. Don’t let your imagination run wild! If you miss me, just tell me."
"Really?" Sharon looked at Anne.
Anne nodded. "Of course! You’re my sister. Just tell me what’s on your mind."
As she spoke, Anne took out her phone and called a car for her.
Maybe it was just good luck, but a car arrived very quickly.
Anne helped Sharon into the car, planning to see her home.
She picked up her phone and sent a message to Nathan: "I’m taking Sharon home. You and the boys can come back after you’ve had your fun."
When Nathan received the message, he frowned as he read it.
