Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 486: Sharon Sutton Didn’t Come Back
Sharon Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton.
After hearing her words, she opened the car door, got out, and stood in front of the vehicle, staring at Anne. "You said it! If he really does fall for me one day, don’t you dare blame me."
"Get lost." Anne raised a hand, leaned over, and slammed the car door shut.
She drove straight home.
She was so furious with Sharon that she didn’t even want to talk.
’I was trying to save her some face by not calling her out, and this is what I get!’
’She actually admitted it just now!’
’Telling me to give Nathan Fawcett back to her.’
Anne Sutton got home, took a shower, and was lying in bed when a message came from Nathan Fawcett. "Are you home?"
"In bed, about to sleep," Anne replied. "Why are you still up?"
"You’re not here."
"..." Anne had been feeling irritated, but seeing his message made the corners of her mouth lift. "You should get some sleep!"
Nathan replied, "Mm-hmm."
Anne thought of Sharon Sutton then, wondering if she had made it back yet.
But Sharon’s words had left her feeling deeply unsettled.
Even as she was coming home, she had been wondering, ’Did I really do the wrong thing back then?’
’Maybe I shouldn’t have interfered in her life. Maybe I should have just respected her fate?’
Anne didn’t talk with Nathan for long. She had work the next day, so she ended the call.
But just as she had finally fallen asleep, there was a knock on her door.
Anne sat up, irritated. "Who is it?"
"It’s me." Mrs. Sutton’s voice came from outside.
Anne got out of bed and saw Mrs. Sutton standing at the door. "Mom, you’re back!"
"Where’s Sharon? I just passed her room and saw the door was open. Where did she run off to so late at night?"
Anne rubbed her eyes. "She’s not back yet?"
She was much more awake now.
Mrs. Sutton said, "No, she’s not. Weren’t you two coming home together? I didn’t know what was going on, so I came to ask you."
At the mention of this, Anne frowned, remembering how she had left Sharon on the side of the road. She said, "We got into an argument. She got out of the car on her own and told me not to bother with her."
"..." Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton grew very worried. "I’ll give her a call."
Sharon didn’t have many friends in Veridia.
With her not being home so late at night, Mrs. Sutton was truly worried about her.
Anne couldn’t sleep now either.
Arguing was one thing.
But Sharon was a young woman out there alone late at night. Anne feared that if something happened, she would be blamed for the rest of her life.
She came out of her room. Mrs. Sutton was trying to call Sharon, but the call wouldn’t go through.
So, she got in the car to go look for her.
Anne threw on some clothes and went out with her mother.
They drove back to the spot where Anne had dropped Sharon off, but no one was there.
They searched along the route but still couldn’t find her.
Mrs. Sutton said, "Where could that child have gone?"
Anne recalled what Sharon had said to her when she got out of the car. She picked up her phone and called Nathan Fawcett.
She knew it was very late, but she had no other choice.
Nathan was very patient when he answered her call. "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
Normally, Anne would never call him at this hour.
Anne said, "Did Sharon Sutton come looking for you?"
"Why would she come looking for me?" Nathan said. "I doubt she would."
Just the sight of Sharon irritated him, so it was unlikely she would show up and ask for trouble.
But hearing her ask, Nathan grew concerned. "What happened?"
Anne said, "On the way home today, she and I had a fight, and she got out of the car. Now she’s missing, and I was thinking she might have gone to find you."
After all, she had said she was going to steal Nathan Fawcett away from her.
Nathan said, "I’ll have someone ask around. Don’t worry. If we have to, I’ll send people to help you search. Where are you now? I’ll come find you."
Anne glanced at her mother, then said to Nathan, "My mom and I are heading home first. Sorry to trouble you."
Nathan said, "I’m on my way to you now."
After he spoke, he got up and went downstairs, where he happened to see Anna Linden sitting on the sofa. She couldn’t sleep.
Seeing Nathan heading out at this hour, Anna asked, "Where are you going?"
Nathan said, "Sharon Sutton is missing. I’m going to Anne’s place to help her look."
Anna said, "Sharon’s missing?"
Nathan nodded. "Yeah. I’m heading out now."
And with that, he left.
Anna watched him go. Since she couldn’t sleep anyway, she also started arranging for people to search for Sharon.
Anne hung up and drove home with her mother.
Just as they arrived, Nathan showed up as well.
Caleb Summers, who lived next door, came in with Nathan. He was still in slippers and shorts.
Anne was sitting on the sofa. Nathan walked over and sat down beside her. "Still no news?"
"No. I don’t know where she went."
Her phone isn’t going through, and we’ve already checked the places she might have gone, but we can’t find her.
Mrs. Sutton looked extremely worried.
Nathan said, "Don’t worry, Auntie. I’ve already sent people to look for her. They’ll let us know the moment there’s any news."
Hearing his words, Mrs. Sutton nodded. "Nathan, thank you."
Nathan’s gaze fell on Anne. "Are you not working tomorrow? Why don’t you go get some sleep?"
"I can’t sleep." Anne glanced at Caleb Summers. Her relationship with him had been strained lately, so even though they were neighbors, they barely spoke.
Now that Caleb was here helping look for Sharon, Anne felt a bit awkward. "Have a seat," she offered.
Caleb said, "It’s fine. I’ll help with the search."
He took out his phone and started organizing people to find Sharon.
Mrs. Sutton stood up and went into the kitchen.
Nathan looked at Anne and said, "Why didn’t you tell me you had a fight with her?"
Anne said, "I just didn’t think it was necessary. It wasn’t a big deal."
She just hadn’t expected Sharon to completely disappear like this.
Right now, she didn’t know if Sharon was just being stubborn and refusing to come back, or if something had actually happened to her.
Nathan asked, "What was it about?"
Ever since Sharon had come back, Anne had been indulging her every whim. The day before yesterday, she had even abandoned them to go find her.
For her to be arguing with her sister now, something serious must have happened.
When Nathan asked this question, Anne glanced at him, her expression complicated.
Nathan said, "Just tell me."
Anne said, "She said... I never should have gone to the Fawcett Family in her place. That if I hadn’t interfered, she would have been the one to go, and she never would have gotten together with David Hayes. I don’t even know what to say! I guess she’s looking back on it now and feels resentful."
Hearing Anne’s words, Nathan’s eyes darkened. He said to her, "You’re taking it to heart?"
Anne sat on the sofa, looking at the man before her.
