Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 487: I'll Take You
Nathan said, “You didn’t actually take what she said to heart, did you?”
Anne said, “I actually spent all night thinking about it.”
It’s funny how some things work.
Maybe what Sharon said wasn’t wrong.
Nathan gritted his teeth and stared at her. “Anne Sutton! You actually listened to that nonsense! Am I that unimportant to you? Do you really think that if it had been Sharon in your place, I would have fallen for her?”
“…” Anne watched Nathan’s frantic, angry expression. “Who’s to say?”
Nathan took a deep breath. Looking at how calm she was, he had the urge to curse her out.
He said, “You don’t understand me at all.”
After saying that, Nathan turned and walked out.
He felt hurt.
He desperately needed to cool down. He didn’t want to talk to Anne, afraid she’d anger him to death.
Caleb Summers was still at the door, updating Nathan on the search for Sharon.
His men had been dispatched. As long as Sharon was still in Veridia, they would find her before dawn.
He looked at Nathan and smirked. “It’s just a missing person case. Did you really need to come all the way here for something so simple? I bet you just wanted to see Anne!”
“Some things are better left unsaid.”
Caleb glanced inside, then turned back to Nathan. “What’s with the long face? What happened? Did she ignore you? Nathan, you just won’t listen to me. You two have no future! You’re going to break up sooner or later. It won’t work out, even if you stay together now.”
Hearing Caleb’s words, Nathan said, “Why don’t you go to Westhaven and take over for Noah?”
Caleb: “…”
He was speechless. “Whoa, don’t get personal. I’ll shut up, alright? Seriously, I’m out here in the middle of the night helping you look for your sister-in-law. This is ridiculous.”
Seeing Nathan’s foul mood, Caleb didn’t dare stick around and provoke him further, so he made a quick exit.
…
Mrs. Sutton came out of the kitchen with something in her hands. Seeing Anne alone, she asked, “Has Nathan gone home?”
“He’s at the door.” Anne knew he was angry again.
‘I didn’t want to say anything, but as soon as I did, he got upset again.’
She sat on the sofa, looking at her phone. There was still no word from Sharon.
With no news of Sharon, Anne couldn’t sleep, even though she had to work at the hospital the next day.
…
She didn’t go out to comfort Nathan.
Just as she’d told Sharon.
If Sharon thought she had what it took to win Nathan over, then Anne would respect that.
‘She’d never wanted to fight another woman for a man!’
‘There were plenty of men in the world. It wasn’t like he was the only one.’
…
Nathan stood alone at the door for a while. He only came back inside when he received a call saying they had found Sharon.
He saw Anne sitting on the sofa. She wasn’t asleep; she was just playing on her phone.
Seeing how indifferent she seemed toward him, Nathan felt a pang of hurt.
‘He liked this woman so much…’
‘But in her heart, he was just someone insignificant.’
‘She really didn’t love him at all!’
He was head over heels for her, but right now, he couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
But business came first.
Nathan said, “We have news about Sharon.”
At this, Anne stood up. “Where is she?”
Mrs. Sutton also stood up.
After a frantic night, there was finally news of Sharon.
Mrs. Sutton asked, “How is she? Is she okay?”
Nathan said, “I got a call from my mother’s place. They’ve found her. She’s fine.”
Nathan led Anne and Mrs. Sutton out the door, and the three of them hurried to the Linden family home.
As soon as they walked in, they saw the Linden family’s living room was brightly lit and just as bustling.
Even Stella Shields, who had been staying there for a few days, was up.
Sharon was already back. She had just been brought in. Her clothes were filthy and caked with mud from who-knows-where.
A sense of suffocation washed over Anne when she saw her sister like that.
Remembering their argument, she didn’t approach Sharon, but simply stood by the door.
Mrs. Sutton walked over to Sharon and said anxiously, “Where did you go in the middle of the night? And not answering your phone! Are you crazy? We had to spend all this time looking for you after a long day.”
Anna Linden saw how upset Mrs. Sutton was and tried to soothe her. “Don’t be angry. She’s back now! As long as she’s back, that’s all that matters.”
Sharon sat on the sofa without a word, a wronged look on her face.
Mrs. Sutton asked, “Where did you run off to?”
Sharon didn’t answer.
Anna Linden said, “I heard she was found in an abandoned building.”
She looked at Sharon and said, “Sharon, how could you make your mother worry so much? She already has such a hard time at the shop all day. Your sister was looking for you, too.”
With something like this happening, no one could sleep. Everyone got up to look for her.
Sharon looked up, glanced at Anne standing by the door, and said, “I didn’t ask you to look for me.”
“What kind of thing is that to say?” Mrs. Sutton said. “If you’re going somewhere, you at least need to tell someone! Do you have any idea how long your sister and I were looking for you? We were lucky to have their help finding you.”
‘If it weren’t for Nathan and Anna, she didn’t even want to think about what might have happened.’
Anna Linden watched the scene and sighed. “It’s very late. Let’s not argue anymore. Sharon, go take a shower. Look how dirty you are.”
After she spoke, she turned to Chloe Chase. “Go find her a change of clean clothes.”
Chloe nodded.
She led Sharon upstairs.
Anne watched this unfold without a word. Then she said to everyone, “I’m going to head back and get some sleep.”
“You’re going back this late?”
Anne said, “All my things are over there.”
With that, she walked out the door.
She had only come because she was worried about Sharon. Now that she knew she was safe, Anne was relieved.
As she walked out, Nathan watched her back. Worried something might happen to her, he followed.
‘Even though her words and actions made him angry…’
‘But Nathan couldn’t just leave her alone!’
He caught up to Anne and said, “I’ll take you home.”
His voice was laced with emotion, cold and distant.
Anne looked up at him. “I can get back on my own.”
“How are you going to get back?” Nathan looked at her, his tone firm. “I’m taking you.”
He didn’t give her a chance to refuse.
Anne looked at him and, in the end, didn’t refuse his offer.
Nathan drove Anne home himself.
On the way, neither of them spoke.
After a long night, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
Anne looked out at the pre-dawn city, quiet and free of traffic.
Nathan took her home and followed her upstairs. He lay down on the bed. Instead of leaving, he reached out and pulled her into his arms. “Anne.”
When he spoke this time, his voice was very gentle.
He called her name.
Anne said, “You can go home now.”
“Go home where?” Nathan said. “What, are you trying to give me away to Sharon?”
