Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 488: Mrs. Sutton Is Angry
Anne Sutton said, “Maybe you belonged to her in the first place.”
“Am I that worthless in your eyes?” Nathan Fawcett felt insulted, but he still spoke to her gently. “Who the hell is Sharon Sutton? Even if she wants to be with me, I’d have to actually be interested. You’re so good to her, and she still breaks your heart. There’s something wrong with that woman! Her values are completely warped. How terrible do you think my judgment would have to be for me to fall for her?”
Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett, “She’s just been spoiled her whole life, so there’s a lot she doesn’t understand.”
“Doesn’t understand?” Nathan Fawcett scoffed. “The Sutton family has been through so much, and she’s been a mother herself! What is there not to understand? Only childish people constantly use their age as an excuse. And you’re just as bad, always enabling her. Now you’re heartbroken, aren’t you?”
Anne Sutton closed her eyes and said to Nathan Fawcett, “I’m so tired!”
She hadn’t slept well last night.
She couldn’t sleep for long before she had to rush to the hospital.
And here Nathan Fawcett was, still lecturing her.
Hearing her protest, Nathan Fawcett said, “Okay, I’ll be quiet. Get some sleep.”
His arm around her didn’t loosen.
In truth, Nathan Fawcett hadn’t slept either, just like her.
He had rushed over to be with her right after she called.
‘It was all Sharon Sutton’s fault!’
‘A grown woman, deliberately making everyone worry.’
‘Not answering her phone, turning it off… she was obviously doing it on purpose to make everyone frantic.’
‘Could she really think this was the way to get attention?’
Nathan Fawcett held Anne Sutton.
Anne Sutton slept for a little while.
Nathan Fawcett’s embrace made her feel secure.
She realized that, at times, she was still very dependent on him.
‘In the end, she was still a vulnerable person.’
…
Sharon Sutton changed her clothes and slept at the Linden family home.
This was her first time staying at the Linden family home.
She lay in bed, looking around the room. ‘This must be a guest room.’
Everything about the Linden family was so wonderful.
‘So wonderful, it was enough to make anyone jealous of Anne Sutton.’
‘She had said it before—she was going to steal Nathan Fawcett away!’
‘If she and Nathan Fawcett really got together…’
At the thought, she felt a small flicker of anticipation.
‘If she could be with Nathan Fawcett and become the Family Head’s Wife, what would David Hayes matter?’
‘How would he dare to bully her then?’
‘She would make that entire family pay for what they had done.’
After getting Sharon Sutton settled, Chloe Chase came out of the room.
Stella Shields was standing by the door.
When Chloe Chase saw Stella Shields, she asked, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
Stella Shields asked, “Why is she staying here?”
Chloe Chase said, “It’s very late, so we just let her stay!”
Stella Shields said, “Anne Sutton already left, but her sister is still here. Don’t you find that strange?”
Besides, she had seen them downstairs earlier. It looked like Anne Sutton and Sharon Sutton had been arguing.
She knew how much Anne Sutton doted on her sister.
‘It’s pretty amazing they could end up like this.’
Chloe Chase looked at Stella Shields and said, “You have the energy to worry about other people’s business? Hurry up and go to sleep!”
Stella Shields’s expression stiffened at Chloe Chase’s words, and she quickly returned to her room.
But she didn’t fall asleep either.
Even though she was staying at the Linden family home now, her brother was still angry with her, so her own problems were far from solved.
Stella Shields hadn’t planned on going back to the film set.
But now, remembering Justin Shields’s attitude, she didn’t want to go back to the Shields family home either.
‘I want to go back to work on set.’
‘That way, she wouldn’t have to see her brother!’
With this idea in mind, she sent a message to her assistant.
In the morning, when Stella Shields came down for breakfast, Sharon Sutton was already up as well.
Anna Linden and Mrs. Sutton were both there.
However, Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton, who had been staying there until now, were absent.
Stella Shields sat to one side, eating the breakfast Mrs. Sutton had made and watching Sharon Sutton.
She asked Sharon Sutton, “Did you have a fight with Anne Sutton?”
Sharon Sutton looked at Stella Shields, who was staring at her, and said, “It’s none of your business.”
“None of my business? How is it none of my business?” Stella Shields retorted. “Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you’re up to.”
“…” Hearing this, Sharon Sutton said unhappily, “Then why don’t you enlighten me? What am I thinking?”
Anna Linden and Mrs. Sutton were both sitting nearby.
Sharon Sutton was curious to see what Stella Shields could possibly say.
If Stella Shields had kept her mouth shut, that would have been one thing, but as soon as she spoke, Sharon Sutton was reminded of who she was. Stella Shields had also tried to pursue Nathan Fawcett before!
But against Anne Sutton, she didn’t stand a chance!
She had left the Linden family home in disgrace.
‘It was a mystery why she had moved in now.’
Stella Shields took a sip of soup and said, “You want to live here because you think you can take Anne Sutton’s place. You want to be with Nathan Fawcett. I’m not wrong, am I?”
Stella Shields spoke with absolute certainty.
Hearing this, both Anna Linden and Mrs. Sutton paused, stunned, and looked over at Stella Shields.
Sharon Sutton retorted, “Just because you liked Nathan Fawcett and couldn’t have him, you’re going to stand here and say things like that?”
Of course, she wasn’t going to admit it!
Stella Shields just smiled. “Admit it or don’t. It doesn’t matter. You can’t fool me. People have eyes!”
After saying her piece, she turned to Anna Linden. “Anna, I’m planning to head back to the film set to work in a little while.”
“You’re not staying here anymore?” Anna Linden asked, looking at her.
Stella Shields said, “I can’t stay here forever. I should get back to work. It’ll be good to have something to do.”
‘Silas Hawthorne probably wouldn’t follow her all the way out there.’
‘He couldn’t be that obsessed, could he?’
Anna Linden said, “It’s your decision.”
…
Stella Shields finished her food, stood up, and walked out the door.
Anna Linden said to Mrs. Sutton, “I have to get to the hospital. You two take your time. Neither of you slept last night, so please get some proper rest.”
She treated Mrs. Sutton like family now.
Mrs. Sutton nodded. “Alright.”
She saw Anna Linden out, then turned back to look at Sharon Sutton. “Was what Stella Shields said just now true?”
Sharon Sutton said, “True about what?”
“Why did you and your sister argue last night?” Mrs. Sutton asked, her voice tinged with anger.
She looked at Sharon Sutton in disbelief.
Sharon Sutton had been acting strangely for the past few days.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
As her mother, she knew her own daughter better than anyone!
The moment Stella Shields had said it, a part of Mrs. Sutton’s heart had already confirmed her fears.
Hearing her mother’s question, Sharon Sutton said, “She looks down on me.”
“…Lies!” Mrs. Sutton exclaimed. “You know perfectly well how good your sister has been to you! Don’t just get jealous because she’s doing well now. If she hadn’t been holding this family together, I don’t know what would have become of us.”
“Holding it together?” Sharon Sutton scoffed. “What has she ever held together? I was the one who was supposed to go to the Fawcett family in the first place. She was already with Charles Prescott back then, so why did she go instead of me? She’s the one who stole everything from me! The person who should be with Nathan Fawcett is me!”
Sharon Sutton had barely finished speaking when Mrs. Sutton slapped her across the face.
Mrs. Sutton had a very gentle personality and would never normally strike her children.
This time, the slap stunned Sharon Sutton.
She stared at her mother. “You hit me! You hit me for Anne Sutton! Mom, have you forgotten? All those days she didn’t come home, I was the one by your side, keeping you company.”
