Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 489: Why Worry About Her?
Mrs. Sutton said, "You know what your sister has been through all these years. Even if others don’t, how could you not? She was just lucky that Nathan Fawcett was still alive. That’s the only reason she has everything she has today. If Nathan had died back then, do you think things would have turned out so well? She and Nathan already have a child together. What are you still trying to do? Are there no other men in the world that you have to go after Nathan Fawcett?"
Sharon Sutton bit her lip. "Even if there are other men, who could possibly compare to Nathan Fawcett?"
’She just couldn’t accept it!’
’Why did everything that should have been mine end up with Anne Sutton!’
’Originally, I was the one who was supposed to marry Charles Prescott.’
’If I’d married Charles Prescott, and Anne hadn’t ended up with Nathan Fawcett, then my life would be so much better than hers right now.’
Hearing Sharon Sutton say such a thing, Mrs. Sutton was left speechless.
She never imagined that Sharon Sutton would actually set her sights on Nathan Fawcett.
She looked at the daughter before her, feeling a sense of helplessness. "How could you turn into this kind of person?"
Seeing the disappointed look on her mother’s face, Sharon Sutton said, "So what am I supposed to do? Be like you? Spend my whole life giving in, always letting others have their way? Just look at what you got for all your concessions! Look at Maya Evans—she got everything. People have to fight for what they want! Besides, Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett aren’t married yet. As long as they’re not married, I still have a chance."
’She didn’t think she’d done anything wrong.’
’After all, Nathan Fawcett was mine to begin with. Anne Sutton stole him from me!’
"..." Mrs. Sutton could hardly believe that Sharon Sutton was using Maya Evans as a comparison. How could the daughter she had raised with her own hands say such things?
Mrs. Sutton said, "If you’re really going to pursue Nathan Fawcett, if you’re really going to do something like this, then I’ll act as if I don’t have a daughter. Don’t you ever come looking for me again."
Mrs. Sutton was utterly and completely disappointed in Sharon Sutton.
’She had no idea what Sharon was planning.’
’These past few days, because of the situation with David Hayes, she and Anne had been so careful with Sharon, trying to comfort her so she wouldn’t be heartbroken. But she never imagined that it would only make Sharon resent Anne.’
’To think she could blame all her misfortunes on Anne.’
Hearing her mother’s words, Sharon Sutton said, "Now that my sister has married well and is rich, even Mom is on her side, isn’t that right? It just goes to show, you have to have your own money! You can only rely on yourself."
"..." Mrs. Sutton shot her a glare and walked straight out the door.
’She was afraid that if she didn’t leave right then, Sharon would anger her so much that her old illness would act up.’
...
In the morning, Anne Sutton climbed out of bed. Nathan Fawcett was at her place and had breakfast with her.
She looked at the man sitting across from her and said, "Aren’t you going home?"
"Sharon Sutton is there. What would I go back for?" Nathan Fawcett said, his face dark. "I don’t want to see her right now. I’m afraid if I do, I won’t be able to resist the urge to hit her."
He was ignoring Sharon Sutton for Anne Sutton’s sake.
It didn’t mean he was afraid of that woman!
Anne Sutton said, "I wonder how Ian is doing!"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Don’t worry. Someone will take them to school."
Everything at home was well-arranged, so even with Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton gone, it wouldn’t affect anything.
...
Anne Sutton said, "Are we being too irresponsible, acting like this?"
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett said, "Frankly, I wish you wouldn’t be so responsible. Don’t shoulder every burden yourself. Some people just aren’t worth it."
Anne Sutton said, "I know what you mean."
’He just wanted me to stop meddling in Sharon Sutton’s business.’
Anne Sutton sighed. "I don’t want to get involved anymore either!"
Nathan Fawcett said, "Let’s send her to Westhaven. I’ll have Noah arrange a position for her. What do you think?"
Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s suggestion, Anne Sutton frowned. "The Hayes family is over there. Whether she’s willing to go or not will depend on what she wants."
"I’ll have someone talk to her."
After Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett finished breakfast, Nathan personally drove her to the hospital for work.
Before they even reached the hospital, Anne Sutton’s phone rang. It was Anna Linden. "Anne, your mother is sick."
Anne Sutton was startled.
When she arrived at the hospital, she rushed straight to her mother’s room.
Anna Linden had just accompanied her back from some tests.
Mrs. Sutton was lying in the hospital bed.
Seeing Anne Sutton come in, Anna Linden said, "She fainted today. Someone brought her in."
Anne Sutton walked to her mother’s side, took her hand, and asked, "Mom, are you okay?"
’Her mother had undergone surgery before and had barely pulled through. Now, Sharon’s latest stunt had angered her to the point of falling ill.’
Mrs. Sutton saw Anne looking at her nervously and said, "Anne, I’m fine. Don’t worry."
Even though she said that, Anne’s eyes still reddened.
Anna Linden said, "Your mom is just exhausted. She didn’t sleep at all last night. Let her rest properly for a few days."
Anne Sutton nodded. "Okay."
Anna Linden said, "I’ll let you two talk. I have to get back to my work."
’You could tell she genuinely considered Mrs. Sutton a friend. When Mrs. Sutton fell ill, Anna had dropped her own work to rush over.’
After Anna Linden left, Anne looked at her mother and said, "Please get some rest for the next couple of days. Don’t worry about the restaurant."
The restaurant was up and running now, so even if Mrs. Sutton wasn’t there, the staff could handle everything.
Mrs. Sutton said, "I’m not worried about the restaurant. Right now, I’m worried about Sharon."
"Worry about her for what?" Anne’s voice grew cold. "She’s not a child anymore. If something comes up, she can handle it herself."
Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne and said, "Anne, we’ve been a burden to you! This whole family has dragged you down! Sharon is just too thoughtless."
Anne said, "So you know everything."
’Hearing her mother say that, it seemed there was no hiding anything from her.’
Mrs. Sutton said, "I was at the Linden’s today and spoke with her. I know everything now! I never imagined she would have such ideas! Your relationship with Nathan won’t be affected by this, will it?"
"It’s fine," Anne said. "I already told her that if Nathan Fawcett can actually bring himself to like her, I’ll step aside and let them be together."
’She wasn’t that petty, and she wasn’t a sore loser.’
’If Nathan Fawcett could really fall for Sharon, then she wouldn’t want to be with him anyway!’
Mrs. Sutton said, "Sharon just doesn’t understand these things right now. She sees Nathan being polite to her and thinks it means he feels something special for her!"
’If it weren’t for Anne, Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t even give her a second glance.’
’There were so many women around Nathan Fawcett who were better than Sharon.’
’But he was only ever good to Anne.’
’After all, the two of them now had a child together!’
Anne said, "Let’s not talk about her. The most important thing is for you to get well. Seeing you like this... you’re scaring me to death!"
