Sharon answered, “What is it?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “Didn’t you want to stay at the Linden estate? Then stay. I won’t make you leave.”

Hearing this, Sharon was stunned for a moment, unable to believe it.

Anne Sutton stood before Nathan Fawcett, looking at him. ‘He’s not going to make Sharon leave?’ she thought, astonished.

‘With his personality, he should be the last person to tolerate Sharon’s schemes.’

Nathan Fawcett finished the call and handed the phone back to Anne.

Anne asked, “Why are you letting her stay?”

Nathan Fawcett said, “Let her stay. I won’t be going back there anytime soon, so she can do whatever she likes. I want to see what she’s capable of.”

After speaking, Nathan looked at Anne and said, “If you trust me, let me handle her. It’ll save you the trouble of letting her drive you crazy.”

Hearing his words, Anne nodded. “Alright.”

She was deeply disappointed in Sharon and truly didn’t want to waste any more energy on her.

Time and time again…

This was far from the first time Sharon had let her down.

She had doted on her younger sister since they were children.

Her own engagement to Charles Prescott had brought her nothing but unhappiness—a sacrifice she made for the family. That was why she had stepped forward to take her sister’s place when she was to be sent to the Fawcett family.

But she never imagined that she would now be the one her sister resented.

‘Thinking back on it now, it all feels so pointless.’

‘Sometimes you do so much, yet the people closest to you don’t understand. They even think you’re the one who came out ahead.’

Trying to talk to Sharon was just draining.

Nathan Fawcett said, “Go on, stay with your mom for now. I’ll take Finn and Ian home.”

“Home?” Anne looked at him.

Nathan said, “No, I’m taking them to your place.”

“What about their school tomorrow?”

Nathan said, “It’s fine. I’ll get up early and take them.”

‘If Sharon likes living at the Linden estate so much, then let her stay.’

The Linden estate was huge.

When no one else was around, the place felt cavernous and empty.

With Nathan not there, there was no point in her staying.

So Nathan took the kids to stay at Anne’s place.

…

Hearing him, Anne looked at him with a sense of resignation. “Alright, go on. You know the code to my place.”

Nathan nodded. “Mm.”

He went into the hospital room to say a quick word to Mrs. Sutton, then led Ian and Finn out.

Anne walked out with them to see them off.

Ian hugged Anne, whining, “Mommy.”

Anne looked down at him. “What is it?”

He was being very clingy.

Ian said, “Aren’t you going to get any rest tonight? Maybe I should stay and help you take care of Grandma.”

Looking at her sweet boy, Anne said, “No, honey, you’re too little. You can come take care of Grandma when you’re all grown up.”

“But I want to sleep with you!”

When Anne was living at the Linden estate, he could go to his mom whenever he wanted.

But she hadn’t been back for the past two days.

He couldn’t see his mom.

Now that Anne had to stay at the hospital, Ian didn’t want to leave her.

Nathan Fawcett watched his son. He had become a total mama’s boy.

In contrast, Finn, standing beside him, was much more resilient.

Nathan dragged Ian out the door. He carried one boy in each arm, seemingly without any effort at all.

The sight of him hauling them away drew a lot of stares.

…

After seeing the father and his two sons off, Anne returned to the hospital room.

Nathan Fawcett brought Ian and Finn back to Anne’s apartment.

…

Sharon Sutton discovered that after Nathan gave the word, the staff at the Linden estate really did stop trying to make her leave.

She settled into the Linden estate, feeling perfectly justified.

Five days passed like this.

No one from the Linden family ever showed up.

It was one thing for Nathan not to return, but even the two children were nowhere to be seen.

At first, Sharon had been happy living there. But when she realized Nathan and the boys weren’t coming back, she suddenly felt there was no point to it.

She tried to call Anne, only to find that her calls wouldn’t go through.

‘She must have blocked me.’

She was sitting on the sofa in a foul mood when Anna Linden happened to come home.

Seeing her, Sharon stood up. “Auntie Anna.”

Anna Linden saw Sharon and said, “Oh, Sharon, what are you doing here?”

‘The last time Sharon was here was several days ago. I thought she had already gone home.’

Sharon said, “You’re back! I haven’t seen you around lately.”

Anna Linden replied, “Your mother’s been in the hospital, and your sister has been looking after her. I’ve been busy with other things myself, so I haven’t been back.”

She looked at Sharon and asked, “How’s your mother’s shop doing? Have you been back to check on it?”

At the mention of this, Sharon’s expression darkened. She hadn’t been back at all.

‘After all, she and her mother had a huge falling out that day.’

When Sharon didn’t answer, Anna Linden asked, “What’s wrong?”

Sharon said, “My mother told me not to come around anymore. She said she doesn’t have a daughter like me.”

Hearing this, Anna Linden said, “She dotes on you. She was just saying that because she was angry. She was also heartbroken when you disappeared that night. You’re not actually ignoring her because of that, are you?”

Sharon lowered her head, not knowing what to say.

Anna had only come back to grab something.

She didn’t have time for a long chat with Sharon.

‘As long as someone’s in the house, I don’t really care. One more person or one less, it doesn’t make a difference. I’m on good terms with Mrs. Sutton, and Sharon is her daughter. I don’t mind her staying here for a few days.’

Sharon asked, “By the way, Auntie Anna, Ian and Finn haven’t been back for the past couple of days. Where did they go?”

“They haven’t been back?” Anna sounded surprised. “Nathan’s been looking after them. I have no idea.”

She was usually so busy with work that she had no time to spend on her grandsons.

Besides, Nathan was always very responsible with the children, so she never worried about it.

Hearing this, Sharon frowned, wondering if Anna was telling the truth or just lying to her.

But with Nathan and the children never showing up, she was getting anxious just sitting around the Linden estate every day doing nothing.

Anna said, “Let me call and ask.”

She was a little concerned herself, hearing from Sharon that the children hadn’t been back.

She picked up her phone and made the call.

Mrs. Sutton was being discharged from the hospital today, so Anne was planning a small dinner party at her place. It had been a while since they all got together.

When Anna called to ask about the children, Anne took the opportunity to invite her over.

When Anna heard they were all at Anne’s place, she readily agreed.

She hung up, gathered her things, and got ready to leave.

Sharon followed after Anna, calling, “Auntie Anna.”

Anna said, “They’re over at Anne’s! She invited me for dinner. What about you? Want to come along?”

She looked at Sharon. Knowing there was a rift with her family, Anna wasn’t sure what she was thinking.

Sharon had been perfectly content staying at the Linden estate. She never imagined that they would all pack up and move into Anne’s apartment.

‘Then what was the point of me staying at the Linden estate?’
