“That’s right!” Anne Sutton said. “Without Nathan Fawcett, I’m nothing, it’s true. But I still wouldn’t end up in a mess like yours. Sharon Sutton, could you possibly be any stupider? You don’t actually think that just by moving out, you’ll be able to get close to Nathan Fawcett, do you? Once you leave my protection, you’ll be out on your own. It’ll be difficult for you to even catch a glimpse of him, let alone win him over.”

Her only way to get in touch with a man of Nathan Fawcett’s stature was through Anne Sutton.

She had even gone to the Fawcett Group a few days ago, only to discover she couldn’t even get past the main gate, let alone meet with Nathan Fawcett privately.

Sharon Sutton tensed at Anne Sutton’s words.

“If I were you,” Anne Sutton said, “I wouldn’t pass up the chance to go to the Fawcett Group. At least there, you’ll have a shot at seeing Nathan Fawcett.”

Even if it was a long shot, the Fawcett Group was still territory Nathan Fawcett was responsible for.

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Sharon Sutton’s face fell. She looked at Anne and said, “Why are you telling me all this? Are you just trying to make me feel stupid?”

“You’re surprisingly self-aware.”

Sharon Sutton clenched her fists. “Why are you telling me to go to the Fawcett Group? Why are you giving me advice? Do you really think that even if you gave me an opportunity, I wouldn’t be able to take it? That I’m that incapable of winning over Nathan Fawcett?”

“The fact you can even ask that proves you’re not a complete idiot.”

Anne Sutton’s words made Sharon Sutton so angry she gritted her teeth.

‘Even though she knows I have my sights set on Nathan Fawcett, she doesn’t see me as a threat at all.’

This feeling made Sharon Sutton feel utterly despised.

Of course, she had also seen Nathan Fawcett’s attitude firsthand. His disgust for her was more than obvious.

After being thoroughly mocked by Anne Sutton, Sharon didn’t stick around. She left immediately.

She also gave up on the idea of going to see her mother.

She returned to her hotel.

After lying in her hotel room for a while, Sharon Sutton finally picked up her phone and made a call to Butler Walters.

The last time she’d left Anne Sutton’s place, Butler Walters had given her his number, as if he was certain she would eventually come back begging.

Sharon Sutton picked up her phone and dialed. The butler answered almost immediately.

“Hello.”

“It’s me,” Sharon Sutton said. “I’m looking for President Fawcett.”

Butler Walters said, “If there’s something you need, Miss Sutton, you can tell me directly. President Fawcett is in a meeting.”

‘Why would Nathan Fawcett ever take a call from me?’

Sharon Sutton said, “Don’t I even have the right to speak a single word to him?”

‘Her sister gets to have this man, so why can’t I?’

Butler Walters said, “Miss Sutton, if I may be frank, you truly don’t have that right.”

“What did you say?” Sharon was furious, her voice rising.

Butler Walters said, “If you think you have a chance just because Mr. Fawcett treats Ms. Sutton well, then you are far too naive! In Mr. Fawcett’s eyes, there is only Ms. Sutton. There are plenty of women with far better qualifications than you, and he doesn’t give any of them the time of day. No one can catch his eye except for Ms. Sutton.”

Sharon Sutton clenched her fists tightly and said to the butler, “I want to go to the Fawcett Group. I want to go back to Westhaven.”

Just as Anne Sutton had said, the Fawcett Group was truly her only chance.

‘I can’t give up!’

She didn’t want to just find some random place and work as a waitress.

‘I want a real job!’

It was also the only place like that she could get into.

Butler Walters said, “Very well. President Fawcett said you can go whenever you’re ready. You can report directly for work. I’ll make a call to them.”

Sharon Sutton asked, “He knew I would go all along, didn’t he?”

“…” Butler Walters arched an eyebrow. “You may not have a realistic view of your own abilities, but that doesn’t mean others don’t. Mr. Fawcett is perfectly clear on what you’re capable of.”

It wasn’t that Sharon Sutton was incapable of finding a job.

It was just that she was too restless and impatient right now to accept a low-paying job that didn’t showcase her talents.

She was measuring herself against Anne Sutton, so naturally, she wanted to compete with her in every way.

Anne Sutton was currently working at a hospital, and she was considered a seasoned employee there.

She would never be short of job opportunities, no matter where she went.

With Sharon Sutton’s current skill set, there was no way she could find a job better than Anne’s.

So, in the end, her only choice was to go to the Fawcett Group.

Every word from Butler Walters made Sharon Sutton grit her teeth. She was speechless, feeling utterly belittled.

But she didn’t know how to argue back.

In the end, all she could do was hang up.

When Nathan Fawcett came out of his meeting, Butler Walters was waiting for him at the door.

He reported on the matter with Sharon Sutton. “Miss Sutton called. She said she wants to return to Westhaven and join the Fawcett Group.”

“Finally caved, did she?” Nathan Fawcett’s voice was tinged with scorn.

“It would seem so,” Butler Walters said.

“Call Noah and have him arrange it,” Nathan Fawcett said. “For Anne’s sake, I hope she knows what’s good for her this time.”

‘If it weren’t for Anne, Sharon wouldn’t even be worthy of setting foot in the Fawcett Group. I certainly wouldn’t let her in.’

Butler Walters nodded. “Understood.”

They entered the elevator. Nathan Fawcett pressed a hand to his stomach and frowned. Butler Walters looked at him and asked, “Are you feeling unwell again, sir?”

Hearing the butler, Nathan Fawcett said, “Is Anne off work yet? I want to go pick her up.”

Butler Walters said, “Sir, perhaps you should go to the hospital for another check-up? Your current condition has me very worried.”

Although his health had been decent for the past few years…

Still…

He had been so gravely ill back then, after all.

He’d had surgery.

The butler was very worried about Nathan Fawcett’s health.

Hearing the butler, Nathan Fawcett said, “We’ll see.”

“President Fawcett…” Butler Walters was very worried, seeing how he worked himself to the bone every day.

Nathan Fawcett left the office. When he heard Anne Sutton had gone to Mrs. Sutton’s, he went there to pick her up.

As Anne Sutton came out of the restaurant, she saw Nathan Fawcett.

She was genuinely impressed that he had come all this way just to pick her up.

She walked up to him. “Why didn’t you just go straight home?”

“I wanted to see you,” Nathan Fawcett said.

Anne Sutton looked at him. His complexion seemed a bit off. “Are you not feeling well today?” she asked.

“Is it that obvious?” Nathan Fawcett said. “You can tell just by looking?”

“What’s wrong?” Anne Sutton asked. “What’s hurting?”

The moment he admitted he wasn’t feeling well, Anne Sutton grew very worried.

“It’s nothing much,” Nathan Fawcett said. “I just didn’t eat lunch.”

Anne Sutton was speechless.

She shot him a look filled with reproach.

Utterly exasperated with him, Anne Sutton took Nathan Fawcett home and personally cooked him a meal.

After he finished eating, Nathan Fawcett sat to one side. The two children were there as well.

He looked at Anne Sutton and said, “My wife’s cooking is still the best.”

“Why didn’t you eat lunch?” Anne Sutton asked.

“The food they make isn’t any good.”

“So now you’ve learned to be a picky eater, have you?” Anne Sutton said to Nathan Fawcett. “Butler Walters told me you’ve been in poor health recently. Why didn’t you tell me?”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. “There’s nothing wrong with me.”
