Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers
Chapter 617: My Luggage? What For?
(Author’s POV)
"We are here~ ...." Dion muttered as the car came to a stop, right in front of Myra’s residence. He got out first, walked around, and opened the door for her like he had done this a thousand times.
Myra stepped out and thanked him, "Thank you for driving me back home and for everything else, Dion. Have a safe journey to Kimberg." She gave a habitual smile and, without waiting for his response, started walking towards the main door.
Dion pursed his lips, riveting his gaze on her retreating figure. ’Is she really not coming to Kimberg? Are we going to part ways just like that? Does she really not care about me leaving?’ Several such thoughts popped up in his mind, but he had no answer for any of them.
Even Drey was rattled by her coldness. They both thought that once Dion told her about Elisa and his worries, she would change her mind and agree to come with them. But she remained unmoved. Seeing her like that~ ... that really pricked their hearts. She was way too good at shutting them out.
He was so deep in thought that he hadn’t noticed Myra had stopped midway and was now looking at him. Fidgeting with her fingers, her inner monologue was at work: ’Should I ask him or not? He is leaving today. He must have things to do. I should not waste his time. But~ ... sending him away like this doesn’t feel right. Also, I rejected his offer. It would be too rude not to ask~ ....’
After a few seconds of back and forth, she decided to give it a go. "Dion, do you~ ... do you mind coming inside for a while?"
"Huhh? Am I imagining this, or is she really asking me to come inside with her?" he said it out loud, in a daze.
"Hahh? What did you say?" Myra asked, looking at him in confusion. Dion woke up from his reverie at once. "You want me to come in?"
Myra bit her lower lip and said, "Uhh~ ... I’m sorry, I asked. It’s okay if you don’t want to. You must be busy with packing and stuff~ ...."
Dion didn’t let her finish and jumped in, "No~ ... no~ .... I mean yes. Yes, I will come with you. Of course, I will come with you." A grin appeared on his lips, which he was trying to suppress, but was failing badly.
They both started walking slowly.
After Myra had declined him in the car, she had been thinking about what he said. But even if she wanted to go with them, she wouldn’t leave her family behind at any cost. And she didn’t want to make decisions for them again.
Her father, William, left his job of twenty-five years in Damona just because she said she had a good opportunity in Red Stone and didn’t want to miss it. Her mother, Sandra, left the house she had nurtured and cared for half her life just to secure Myra’s future. And Wendy, her dear little sister, she left her close friends behind and changed her future plans because she urged her to.
Her parents, her sister, they left their comfortable routine life in Damona, just for her sake. They have done everything for her without asking anything in return.
They have sacrificed too much for her sake. Now, they finally have a home, a job, friends, colleagues, a proper life in Esteria. Then how could she ask them to relocate again? No, she simply cannot do that. It wasn’t right.
Plus, now she knew she wasn’t an ordinary person. She had the blessing of the moon goddess with her. Whatever happens, she will be with her family to protect them. She will be their shield, their safeguard.
This was half the reason for turning down the brothers’ offer. Not because she didn’t want to, but she couldn’t.
On the other hand, Dion was over the moon. He was gloating, ’See, Drey. She cares about us. SHE DO CARE ABOUT US. How dare you call my mate heartless.’ Drey didn’t reply, but he was indeed happy.
They both reached the door, deeply indulged in their own chain of thoughts.
Myra opened the door and walked inside, her steps light. Dion followed behind.
Only William was in the living room, taking a call. Myra looked around but didn’t see either Sandra or Wendy.
"Take a seat. I will bring you some water," she said and disappeared into the kitchen. To her surprise, her mother wasn’t there either. She frowned a little but brushed it aside and went out with a glass of water.
By then, William had finished his call. Before he could say anything, she asked, "Dad, where’s Mom and Wendy?"
"Upstairs," he replied. "Wendy is in her room preparing her bags. Your mom is packing for you."
"My luggage? What for?" Myra’s hazels narrowed at his statement. Even Dion didn’t understand the meaning. ’Is she going somewhere?’
William’s brows knitted. "Don’t you already know?"
"Know what?" Myra fired back; her pupils shrank even further.
"Mr. Noah Everests, Dion’s father, called earlier. He has formally invited us to visit their residence in Kimberg," William said. His words dropped like a bombshell.
"Huhh? Mr. Everests called you personally?" Myra was shell-shocked, baffled. Her mouth agape. "And you said yes?"
"I~ ..." he hesitated, then looked at Dion. "I thought the brothers must have already told you."
Myra looked at Dion, who was just as confused as she was. He immediately clarified, raising his hands, "I didn’t know anything about Father’s call, Mr. Miracle."
"Ohh~ .... I see," William just nodded in understanding.
"Dad, can we talk for a minute?" Saying this, she started walking towards the kitchen, her steps urgent. William got up from the couch, glanced at Dion and then followed her quietly.
"Dad, when did Mr. Everests call? What did he say to you? He didn’t force you to come, right?" she asked, question after question.
"Why would Mr. Everests force me?" William countered, perplexed by his daughter’s over-the-top reaction. "He said his and Mrs. Everests’ anniversary is approaching in a few weeks, and he wants to invite our family to attend the banquet. That Mrs. Sara and Nora really want us there. He also said that since the brothers are flying back today and your university has shut down temporarily, why don’t we go with them? I thought you knew about it."
