Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1585 - 1575: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Lasts Eternity: The Cunning Eldest Brother (3000+)_2
But Joseph Lancaster’s movements were even quicker, almost simultaneously with the explosion of the base, Violet Zimmerman had already fallen against a not-so-broad chest.
Joseph Lancaster opened his arms and firmly embraced Violet Zimmerman, one hand across her back, and the other clasped her nape.
Daxton Lancaster’s gaze shifted to a phoenix-like expression, and in his view, his brother Joseph Lancaster gently stroked his wife’s nape while comforting her, "Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid."
Violet Zimmerman was still in shock, completely unaware of whose arms she had stumbled into, until Joseph Lancaster’s voice sounded in her ear, prompting her to realize and quickly push him away, then tightly clinging to Daxton Lancaster’s arm.
A moment ago, Aurora Lancaster was still chirping about how beautiful the fireworks were, but when she saw her second brother Joseph Lancaster’s action, she was also stunned.
Aurora Lancaster, being young, didn’t have many thoughts, just couldn’t understand why her second brother did this, after all, that was his sister-in-law, and men and women should keep their distance, avoiding suspicion.
Joseph Lancaster seemed not to feel anything inappropriate about his actions; after Violet Zimmerman backed away, the young man still smiled towards the fireworks, feeling a difficult-to-describe happiness in his heart.
"I’m tired, I want to go back."
Violet Zimmerman hung her head, losing the interest in watching fireworks due to Joseph Lancaster’s earlier actions.
Daxton Lancaster glanced at Joseph Lancaster not showing any expression, freeing the arm that Violet Zimmerman had been holding to place it on her shoulder.
"Joseph, Aurora, you two keep watching. Your sister-in-law is tired, I’ll take her back to rest first."
"Okay, big brother, quickly take sister-in-law back, sister-in-law is carrying little nephew in her belly!" Aurora Lancaster urged with a smile, while Joseph Lancaster continued watching the fireworks in the sky, only turning his head after the couple walked far away, gazing at the elegant figure in the darkness, his eyes gentle.
On the morning of the first day of the lunar year, according to Lancaster Family’s tradition, new year greetings must be given to all the elders.
Violet Zimmerman woke up late, and when she woke up, it was already eight o’clock, by this time, others had almost finished breakfast. Seeing the empty spot beside her, Violet Zimmerman complained that Daxton Lancaster didn’t wake her.
After freshening up, Violet Zimmerman dressed neatly and walked out of the room, just stepping onto the stairs, she smelled a fragrant aroma.
"Aunt Wu, what delicious food did you make? It smells so good."
"Madam, you’re up?" Aunt Wu came running out from the kitchen.
"Yes," Violet Zimmerman smiled as she walked down the stairs. "Why are we eating so late today?"
The servants of Lancaster Family each cooked their own meals, and usually, by this time, they had finished breakfast and started cleaning.
"Madam, we have already eaten, the Family Head instructed us to prepare breakfast for you."
Aunt Wu explained with a smile.
"Daxton instructed?" Violet Zimmerman frowned in confusion, Aunt Wu nodded repeatedly.
"Yes, madam, please have a seat, I’ll bring the breakfast to you."
Violet Zimmerman went to the dining table and sat down, curious about what delicious breakfast Daxton Lancaster had instructed the kitchen to make, and why she wasn’t called to have breakfast with the old master.
In a short while, Aunt Wu brought out a big bowl of meat, seasoned with soy sauce, looking very delicious.
Another servant brought out rice, placing it in front of Violet Zimmerman, said "Madam, enjoy your meal," and returned to the kitchen.
"Aunt Wu, what kind of meat is this?"
Violet Zimmerman picked up her chopsticks and chose a piece of meat with bones, before even tasting it, she couldn’t help but salivate.
Aunt Wu’s gaze flickered slightly, smiling as she replied, "Madam, what does it matter what kind of meat it is, as long as you enjoy it."
After saying this, she also turned back to the kitchen.
Violet Zimmerman sat at the dining table alone eating breakfast, feeling that the meat she had before wasn’t as fragrant as this bowl in front of her; the meat was tender, not many bones, and with one bite, the aroma enveloped her taste buds.
Finished with breakfast, Violet Zimmerman ate contently; a small bowl of rice, yet she ate plenty of meat, and just as she placed down her bowl and chopsticks, Daxton Lancaster walked in from outside.
Violet Zimmerman, satisfied, rubbed her belly with a smile and asked, "Daxton, what kind of meat is this? It’s so delicious."
"Did you like it?"
Daxton Lancaster smiled as he walked over, his gentle eyes without other emotions.
"Yes, better than anything I’ve ever had before."
Daxton Lancaster stood before Violet Zimmerman, looking down at her, his eyes still filled with laughter.
"If it’s good, we can have it every day, rabbits aren’t expensive anyway!"
Violet Zimmerman...
Suddenly realized that it was—
"Did I just eat Little White?" The rabbit she hugged every day?
"Yes, the weather got cold, there were no greens to feed it, so it was slaughtered." Daxton Lancaster answered naturally, showing no sign of it being deliberate.
But Violet Zimmerman knew he did it on purpose, the family had so much money, just the guard dogs alone were fed plenty of cornmeal every day without complaining about the cost, yet feeding a rabbit supposedly had no greens.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable, after all, Little White had accompanied her for so long, she had grown attached.
Thinking that Little White had been eaten by herself, Violet Zimmerman’s stomach began a turmoil, covering her mouth, she got up and ran to the bathroom.
Daxton Lancaster’s smile faded from his face, turning his eyes to Violet Zimmerman’s back, his slightly narrowed eyes held a certain special emotion.
Violet Zimmerman had strong morning sickness today, vomited several times in the morning, bringing up the breakfast she ate earlier and still felt nauseated.
Daxton Lancaster took her to pay respects to the old master, then to his own parents, at the second uncle’s place, he merely took Violet Zimmerman through the formality, sat at Atlas Lancaster’s residence for a while, delivered some boxes of pastries, then claimed Violet Zimmerman’s health was poor and took her back home.
As soon as the couple left the door, Eva Hayes began complaining unhappily, "Hmph, as if only his wife in the world can bear a child, our Victoria is about to give birth too, still she bowed to us!"
"Just stop, bowing shouldn’t get you any extra meat."
Atlas Lancaster reprimanded displeasedly; he used to care about such etiquette, but since the time he started his own factory, suddenly realized that being Family Head, etiquette were useless, only making more money was the real deal.
