My Child and I Married a Billionaire
Chapter 481: Worried to Death
They spent the day lying together, eating, sleeping, reminiscing about the past, and looking toward the future. The time flew by.
The next day, after Faye Fisher took her medicine, Wyatt Wynn was a nervous wreck.
“Does your stomach hurt? Are you going to suddenly start bleeding? Do you feel sick anywhere? Maybe we should just go wait at the hospital. I can’t stand not knowing.”
Faye Fisher, acting as if nothing was wrong, was curled up on the sofa watching TV.
“It doesn’t hurt. The doctor said nothing would happen for a couple of days, and that things would only start tomorrow. Don’t make me anxious. Go on, if you don’t want to watch TV, go do something else.”
The morning passed amidst Wyatt Wynn’s anxious fidgeting, and sure enough, nothing happened.
After lunch, they finally started to relax and crawled into bed together for a nap.
Just as they were sleeping soundly, Faye Fisher’s phone suddenly rang.
She groggily grabbed it and looked. ‘Brandon Jacobs?’
She felt as if she’d been caught red-handed. Faye’s heart pounded, but she answered the call anyway.
“Hello? What’s wrong?”
“Faye, I need you to come back. My dad… he passed away an hour ago. They couldn’t save him.”
‘Mr. Jacobs passed away?’
Faye Fisher threw back the covers to get out of bed, but Wyatt Wynn stopped her.
“But what about your condition?”
“I can’t just not go, can I? Whether I’m their daughter-in-law or not, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs were always so good to me. If I don’t go at a time like this, would I even be human?”
Wyatt Wynn understood, but he was still terrified for her health.
Finally, he came up with a compromise.
He called for an ambulance to take them to Veridia via the expressway.
Faye Fisher thought he was being overly dramatic and that it was ridiculous, but Wyatt Wynn was adamant. If she didn’t agree, he wouldn’t let her go.
‘If something did happen on the way,’ she thought, ‘not only would I be dead, but it would also be incredibly embarrassing.’ So, Faye Fisher agreed.
It wasn’t until they were almost in Veridia that they messaged Faye Fisher’s parents, telling them to head that way.
Thankfully, Faye Fisher had no issues on the journey. The moment they arrived at the hospital and Mrs. Jacobs saw her, the two women fell into each other’s arms, sobbing.
Wyatt Wynn had originally planned to visit the hospital the next day, but he was too worried about Faye Fisher. After waiting less than ten minutes, he went after them.
Brandon Jacobs was surprised to see him.
“When did you get back?”
“I got back this morning. I was planning on stopping by the hospital to see you all, but I never expected…”
Under the circumstances, he couldn’t bear to cause any more trouble for the Jacobs Family. The words were on the tip of his tongue, but Wyatt Wynn changed what he was about to say.
Brandon Jacobs, his heart heavy, clapped him on the shoulder. The two of them went to the stairwell for a smoke.
That evening, Brandon Jacobs told him to go home, but Wyatt Wynn insisted on staying to help him handle all the arrangements.
The next day, even when Damien Vaughn and Zeke Walton arrived to help and told him to go home, he still refused.
“I wouldn’t be able to sleep even if I went home. Jacobs needs someone with him right now. Staying for a day or two is nothing. You guys can stop trying to convince me.”
They all figured that since they’d grown up together and were as close as brothers, they would do the same for Wyatt if something had happened to his family. So, they stopped trying to persuade him.
As Wyatt Wynn helped Brandon Jacobs with the arrangements, he secretly kept an eye on Faye Fisher.
‘Today is the third day,’ he worried. ‘The doctor said the embryo would be expelled today. What is she going to do?’
Faye Fisher, wearing a white mourning flower and dressed in black, stood before Mrs. Jacobs with a grief-stricken expression, never once glancing his way.
Wyatt Wynn wanted to go talk to her, but he couldn’t find an opportunity.
Finally, around ten in the morning, he couldn’t take it anymore. He pretended to walk past Faye Fisher, “accidentally” dropped something, and brushed against her foot—his most subtle attempt at signaling her to meet him outside.
Only then did Faye Fisher follow him to a hallway near the restrooms at the funeral home.
The moment they were out of sight, Wyatt Wynn impatiently grabbed her hand and looked her up and down.
“How are you? How are you feeling? Are you in any pain? Does your stomach hurt? Have you started bleeding? Tell me everything. Do we need to go to the hospital? If we do, just pretend to faint, and I’ll get you there. We can’t let you risk your life over someone who’s already passed. You absolutely cannot just tough this out!”
Faye Fisher could feel his eyes on her; he’d been sneaking glances at her since yesterday.
At a time like this, for him to be acting this way, Faye Fisher felt he was being a bit rash and ignoring the bigger picture.
But seeing how genuinely worried and concerned he was, she couldn’t help but love the way he fussed over her.
“I’m not in any pain, and I’m not an idiot. If I felt sick, I wouldn’t just endure it, so you can relax. We should probably talk as little as possible for the next couple of days. There are people coming and going. If we’re seen, it’ll be awkward for everyone.”
Wyatt Wynn wanted to say more, to give her a few more warnings, but she hurried away as soon as she finished speaking.
With no other choice, Wyatt Wynn headed back as well.
Maybe Wyatt Wynn’s excessive worrying had jinxed her, or maybe it was simply time for her body to react, but not long after their conversation, Faye Fisher felt waves of pain in her abdomen, followed by a warm, wet sensation.
It had happened so suddenly. She hadn’t prepared any sanitary pads, so she had no choice but to find a staff member and ask for one.
But the staff member was completely swamped and just said they didn’t have any before walking away.
Faye Fisher grabbed her arm, asking if she could buy a pack for her, but the staff member said.
“I’m sorry, miss, we’re pretty far from any stores, and I don’t have a car. I ride an electric scooter to work, so it would take a long time. If my supervisor saw me slacking off, I’d get chewed out. You should really ask someone else for help. If you can’t, maybe order it online? Express delivery works too.”
‘That’s an idea,’ Faye Fisher thought, and placed an order online.
She didn’t expect that when she turned around, Wyatt Wynn would be standing behind her again.
“You scared me to death! Why did you follow me again?”
Wyatt Wynn’s face was taut with worry. “I saw you didn’t look well, and you kept clutching your stomach. Is it starting? Find an excuse to leave. I’ll wait for you outside. Don’t wait, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Faye Fisher glanced around. Seeing no one, she reached out and touched his face, which had grown gaunt with worry.
“It’s fine. It hurts a little, and I think I’m bleeding, but it’s not serious. What kind of excuse could I possibly use to leave right now? My parents are here. What if they insist one of them comes with me to the hospital? Then our secret will be out, won’t it? I know you’re worried, and that you mean well, but I’m not an idiot. I won’t let anything happen to me, okay?”
But it wasn’t his body, and he had no idea how bad it was. How could Wyatt Wynn possibly not worry?
“Do you have any pads or anything? Do you need me to go buy some for you?”
“I’ve already ordered some. I need to get to the restroom now, or I’ll stain my clothes. When the delivery arrives, could you please get one of the attendants to bring it in to me?”
Having settled on a plan, Faye Fisher hurried to the women’s restroom.
